Arsenal transfer rumour round-up – Varane, Martinez, Cabaye and Isco

The transfer window opens in just over a month now, so we are having a look at the latest rumours doing the rounds.

The DailyStar is claiming that we have joined Chelsea and Manchester United in the chase for Raphael Varane, with the young Frenchman admitting he is keen for more first-team action. Unfortunately, what he actually says is that he wants further action for his current club, but the rumour mill doesn’t wish to admit that… Varane would be a great addition in my eyes, but I don’t think he is for sale, and I don’t believe we are interested in temporary solutions.

According to the Express, we are considering moves for Jackson Martinez and Isco which both sound rather far-fetched to me. As much as I would like to believe we would invest the reported £64 Million needed to sign Isco from Real Madrid, I just cant imagine Arsene Wenger prioritising a midfielder or a striker with the vast options we currently have going forward.

The same paper also claim that we are favourites to sign former target Yohan Cabaye, who is said to be looking for a return to England.

The midfield general has failed to make the expected impact for Paris Saint-Germain since his move in January of this year, and the French club are said to be willing to take a £3 Million loss on his £22 Million purchase. There could be some life in this story, with Wenger having held Cabaye in high regard. The 28 year-old is more than capable of playing in the defensive midfield role, and his work-rate going forward as well as back-tracking could improve the players around him also.

Could Cabaye be the most likely arrival at Arsenal in January?
