Arsenal transfer rumours 11Dec18 – Pepe, Calero, Aouar and the ridiculous Ozil story

As the New Year fast approaches the Arsenal transfer rumours are starting to cme in thick and fast, and with the amount around today I’m all set to do a roundup….

According to the Metro, Emery is keen to bring in a replacement for Rob Holding this January. They reported: Arsenal are targeting a move for Real Valladolid centre-back Fernando Calero, according to reports in Spain. Unai Emery has struggled for options in central defence due to injuries and now faces the remainder of the season without Rob Holding, who ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the 2-2 draw with Manchester United last Wednesday. Laurent Koscielny is closing in on a return but the Gunners are in the market for a new long-term replacement for the 33-year-old. And according to Cadena SER, Calero is on Arsenal’s radar.

Calero is only 23 so could be a good investment at the reported price of 10m GBP, but do we really need any more centre-backs? I don’t think so….

Moving on, Arsenal have been linked with Nicholas Pepe for some time, and InsideFootball claim that Lille have decided that they want 60m euros for the classy winger, but they also reckon that there will be competition from many top clubs so it may not be easy. But the fact is that I think we all agree that Arsenal could do with a bonafide winger, but would we pay 60million?

Next up we have the young Lyon star Houssem Aouar, who the Metro think is the perfect replacement for Aaron Ramsey. They report: Arsenal are keen on signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar and manager Unai Emery sees the young Frenchman as an ideal replacement for Aaron Ramsey. The 20-year-old has already scored five goals in Ligue 1 and laid on three assists in the Champions League this season, emerging as one of the most promising you talents in European football.

They say that France Football think that it is Arsenal who are particularly keen, but again do we really need any more midfielders at the moment? I don’t think we would even miss Ramsey to be honest!

I have noticed a few readers talking about the possibility of Arsenal swapping Mesut Ozil for Alexis Sanchez, which must rank as one of the most ridiculous rumours I’ve ever heard, but according to the Express, the German is now odds on to move to the Red Devils. They are reporting: Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been willing to drop Ozil at times this season and the German playmaker has not started any of the Gunners’ last five games.

Ozil is currently earning £350,000 a week at Arsenal and bookmakers Coral reckon they may try to bump off the playmaker in January.

Manchester United – who have been linked with Mesut Ozil for weeks – are as narrow as 1/2 with the bookmakers to secure a transfer.

But now exactly the same paper is saying that PSG are now favourites ahead of United to sign Ozil. I wonder who they will make favourites tomorrow. The crazy thing is; Why does anyone even think that Arsenal are going to sell him? The world has truly gone mad!

  1. Get used to lot more crazy rumours over the next month or so! I would say there is probably a little truth with the Ozil situation. Maybe not in regards to Utd or PSG signing him, but certainly the possibility of him leaving is likely. It seems Emery doesn’t fancy Ozil, and we do look a lot better without him. It would make sense to cash in, and save on his wages, as he’s not being used often.

    1. I also believe in Ozil’s PSG rumor, due to his absence and bad forms in several games

PSG might try to sell either Neymar or Mbappe to get money and they could use a big name player like Ozil to calm their fans down

Arsenal are lacking in good wingers/ wide players, so they would most likely chase a young one. Pepe is too expensive for a half season wonder and I believe Arsenal would be cautious after seeing Lemar’s form went down

      1. Just read your second sentence back and seriously consider your sanity.

Why on earth would PSG ever sell Neymar or Mbappe. Neymar may be a diver but he is popular and sells shirts, he’s a huge investment and in his prime. PSG may want to buy Ozil and sell Rabiott but who knows.

Ozil has had a back injury, he might have been carrying that before

        1. PSG won’t have any control over Neymar if he
pulls another Barca and attempts to force his way out of the French capital. The Brazilian
CANCER has mentioned his desire to
possibly return to La Liga and CL
disappointment by both Barca and RM
could facilitate a summer bidding war
          between the Spanish Superpowers.

Mbappe will at some point tire of winning
meaningless Ligue 1 trophies and could
easily become a future Galacotis signing
by Madrid, Barca or Oil City.

Rabiots situation is a perfect illustration of the
growing number of WC players in Europe that
are gravitating to the money and status of
          the Premier League.

  2. “They report: Arsenal are keen on signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar………, Unai Emery sees the young Frenchman as an ideal replacement for Aaron Ramsey”. I’m so much interested in how they know this. Did Emery to the Mail himself or somebody lick this to them…

    1. He is a gem! way better than Ramsey and Ozil combine, we also need denis suarez and pepe and we will be ready to go fight for champion league for next season i would also prefer Banega but may be age might be an issue but still he could have done better job more than what we have. Like i said before between Emery and Sven expect wonders, they will bring in unknown players on dissent price and improve arsenal as a team unlike maurniho, he is like a drunken sailer he keeps demand very players every transfer window but he doesnt know how to utilise them!!!
And also lets be realistic here Ozil and Ramsey are passe!

      1. after their cl games against Lyon Pep was being so complimentary about him on french tv that I wouldn’t be surprised if city went for hiim, france football wrote that straight after the game they discussed the player so doesn,t look good for us!!

        1. IF it was during wenger’s era yes, but now i am very optimistic since we have a guy who used to work for Barca now employed by arsenal he will use his magic. but if it was during wenger’s set up kiss goodbye and by the way wenger used to give arsenal fans false hope and never wanna really try to buy and bring in anybody, he just had faith in that squid he used to manage bacause for over past years he was preaching we were one or two players from winning.

    1. i dont really care where he goes we just need to fill his spot with better player who can help arsenal be arsenal again. once upon yes he used to be a great footballer. same as wenger we used to be told, “be careful of what you wish for” really? 21 games unbeatean!!

      1. Well I do care & the last place I want him going to is Old Trafford with moaning Maureen… he’s better than that for sure

        1. Sue,
what is for the best interest for arsenal, and arsenal fans as a whole ist to recoup atleast half of what we paid for ozil and save his wage at the same time, and bring in players who have Toreira work ethic and then maybe we will be in champion league next season, but with the current group we have i just dont see that to be honest.

        2. Yes we need to send him to united to further weaken their team like we did with sanchez cause ozils style is not suited for united under boringho. Any ways mikhi is more energetic and has a physical presence in the midfield which is good against physical teams although not arsenal stuff. Would not mind ramsey staying back but Emery knows best!!

  3. Hilarious misuse of English. So the paper thinks we are going to “bump off” Ozil. By what method and who would apply the fatal blow? Or maybe poison or push him off a cliff? On a serious note I mourn the dreadful and widespread misuse of English.
On a less serious topic, I automatically disbelieve on sight anything I read in the Metro, save only the date and name of the paper. There is also more chance of me playing for Arsenal than of Sanchez returning. Where do the “news” papers get these total fantasies ?
I do however, firmly think the club will seek to bring in a REAL quality CB in January; we badly need one. Or to be precise THREE!

    1. Jon fox,
what about Ramsey and Ozil spot we are really short on creativity, Auba with his running he needs a classic play maker like Carzola

    2. Jon, first of all, can I ask you to reply to our conversation regarding “are we missing Ozi/ and/or Ramsey please…really interested in your answer / thanks:

Like you I despair of the rumours that circulate about a month before every window opens.
There is only one source that gets me thinking and that is the Arsenal website when they confirm a signing.
Also admit to following Sky and BBC if I’m desperate, but that’s it.
This Ozil/Sanchez rumour is the icing on the cake for me. Doesn’t alexis remember why he left us and for what? Trophies and £££££, he got one at least.
My doubts about the three centre backs Jon, is the financial aspect of “three real quality CB’s”. We have often discussed scrooge kronkie, so why do you think this might happen?

    3. Don’t forget the wages Sanchez is on too Jon. He wanted to leave, and Arsenal were never going to pay his wage demands. But now rumor is he’s returning? So I guess Arsenal are going to pay his 500,000 weekly salary, or Sanchez will take a massive paycut?

News story is complete rubbish, what lazy journalism; make up a story and its farcically unbelievable.

At least the Arteta as manger nonsense died off. How fortunate we are to have Emery; and just think some wanted Arteta to lead us. Talking about dodging bullets aye?

      1. Durand, I’m with you; the return of Sanchez to Arsenal and particularly by means of a swap for Ozil is the greatest bollocks I have heard for some time.
Even though I am a fan of Mezut Ozil, given his age and recurring back injury, it is natural that the trinity at Arsenal (Raul, Sven and Unai) would wish to move him on, to free up the reported £300k+ he earns in wages. There are many quality players out there, in positions Arsenal is deficient in (CAM, wide forward and CB), who would jump at the chance to earn £100k a week at Arsenal. Therefore Arsenal can get at least 3 quality players for our scrooge owner for the price of one Ozil. Unfortunately for Ozil he has priced himself out of the Club.

  4. OT just read the article on sky sports about Sterling & the racist Chelsea fans… I think it’s terrible… look how low the Chelsea & Spuds fans have stooped….. smh

    1. How low they stooped Sue, or merely been found out? I hate to categorize a clubs fans with generalized statements, but events like these happen far too often with those clubs. Not the first time nor the last time actions like these surface with Chelsea and spuds being the offenders.

If say no to racism is a serious campaign, then they should levy massive knee-buckling fines against the clubs, so they begin to police their own fans and ensure this comes to an end. Truly disgusting behavior and actions by those individuals. Lifetime ban should be automatic; get those knuckle-dragging neanderthals out of the stadiums and clubs once and for all.

      1. I really do believe that, if this happened at The Emirates, the club and fans would ensure the culprits would be identified and punished immediately.
Does ANYONE know what happened to the s***bag who threw the banana skin at Abe?
spuds will have this as a top priority wouldn’t you think?

        1. I read that he has been banned for.life Ken, even though he claims he’s not racist… he just found the skin on the floor & threw it without thinking!! Yeah right whatever!!! What a complete fool

    2. It’s quite amazing to look at the face of the unpleasant clown who was abusing Sterling. Even more amazing is the fact that a mother or a wife or a son or daughter may have to look at the man whose repulsive behaviour has been publicised throughout the press and think – “that’s my husband” or that’s my son” etc.

  5. If we can actually sell Ozil for 25M and get his massive salary off the books this January, I think that would be a great piece of business. We can play Ramsey until the end of the season and then replace both with Auoar or anther top young midfielder that Sven is scouting.
We do also need a very solid defender as I think this is Koscielny’s last year with us and I still don’t trust Mustafi as a starter.
With Nelson coming back, we will need just one winger for our left side. Depending on Raul’s relationship with Barca that could even be Dembele loan/buy deal.
I think the last piece of the puzzle will be a new speedy left back. Again I’m sure Sven has been looking far and wide for one.
We also have ESR,AMN, Nketiah, Willock, who all seem ready to play a bigger role.
The future is bright but we also need Stan to sanction at least one top quality buy for next season.

  6. A creative midfielder is required ,ozil is inconsistent, henrikh is not the same player anymore and Ramsey is hard working but not creative.Pablo fornals is also a gud option and we also need a winger Iwobi I like him but he needs time to develop.

  7. Will someone say something nice about Bellerin? The boy has improved immensly ,Where is the old guard on the site? Jon fox,Ken?

  8. Letting go of Ozil, Ramsay, Welbeck can be the best as they are all on high wages but underperforming so get get them off our books and replace them. We also need a quality center back then ship out Mustaf
