Arsenal v Burnley Preview, Team News, Line-up and Score Prediction

Arsenal take on Burnley at the Emirates today looking to arrest a losing run, after defeats to Southampton and Tottenham ruined our 22-game unbeaten run. To be fair, even without our usual defenders we should be able to cope with a Burnley side that have only won one of their last 10 games and are currently residing in the relegation zone. The Clarets last five away games has gained them just one point at Leicester, and they have scored in one of those games. On paper this should be an easy game for Arsenal.

But we also thought the same last week and we were very wrong, so Emery needs to get our defence back into shape. The boss spoke about our growing defensive crisis yesterday when he said: “We know today, the latest news, and for example Mkhitaryan is out. Koscielny is okay but he played two matches this week and tomorrow will be a lot for him. We also need to be calm with him, to take time for a lot of matches before he continues playing. Sead Kolasinac, I think for tomorrow is okay. Players are continuing to recover with Sead. I don’t remember now. Mkhitaryan is out. Mustafi is also, for tomorrow, out too.” He may have forgotten, but we also have Hector Bellerin out for two weeks and Mavropanos is still not yet training with the team.

He was then asked if Koscielny could still play, he replied: “But I trust him and we have solutions for who can play in this position. For example, I read a little criticism for our midfielders like Xhaka playing centre back, but I am very happy with him because his mentality is a very big mentality. He helped us, and he played left back too sometimes and I think he played well. This reason, for me, is that I trust in another player and tomorrow we are going to play with the first 11 and other players in the bench with our performance. I think we’re in a good position to play against Burnley. With respect, but with believing in our work, in our possibilities in other players to play, like a centre back or a midfielder. Above all, I think the mentality is a very big mentality to help us. We have the players and they are playing out of position, like Xhaka and Lichtsteiner last week at Southampton.”

So, if he gives Kos a rest, he has a possible defensive line-up of Sokratis, Lichtsteiner, Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac, which isn’t too bad if we go with a back four, but it looks like he intends to keep Granit Xhaka in the centre of defence as the extra man.

The boss has also said that Mesut Ozil will be back in the squad, but wouldn’t say if he would be a starter. Emery said: “Every player wants to play and be okay to help the team when we need. The frustration is the same for everybody when they didn’t play in a match. But I spoke with him and with the regularity in the season, I am telling him what we need from him and he has the commitment to help us and the quality and the characteristics to help us when the team needs his moments in the pitch in one game. Tomorrow he is in the 18 players, in the squad.”

Personally I think Ozil will start now that Mhkitarayan is injured as well, so here is my predicted line-up for this afternoon with the players that Emery has available….

Leno
Lichtsteiner..Monreal..Xhaka..Sokratis..Kolasinac
Guendouzi..Torreira
Ozil..Iwobi
.Aubameyang.

Oh.. and my score prediction is 3-1 to Arsenal of course!

  1. Surely it will be a back four with Xhaka and Torreira in front of them, Ozil will play and so will Laca. Saka in for Iwobi and Auba with a free roll roaming across the front line.

    1. If Ozil is in the team then right away you must assume he is the one who will occupy the free role (seeing that he won’t defend anyway) so having Auba playing a free role as well will expose us defensively. I do though, want to see Saka coming in for Iwobi. I won’t expect too much though, so maybe a 2nd half 20-15 minute run out for him.

  2. Declan wake up pal,we all know who the coach will use, saka in are you being serious now,I think the only difference In our attack will be laca in for iwobi

    1. Thanks for the wake up call, but is there any need to be rude, perhaps there is, me back at you but won’t lower myself, pal!

      1. Declan, It is , of course, laudable to refrain from being rude BUT I NEVER MANAGER TO RESTRAIN MYSELF WHEN i read some of the bizarre comments on here from some FOLK. Sometimes they really need telling ! It is not right but we are only flesh and blood and can only stand so much nonsense to read.

  3. Southampton could surprise us, so do Burnley. They should not underestimate this match

    My line-up prediction:

    …….………………….Leno
    Lichtsteiner . Sokratis . Monreal . Kolasinac
    ……………..Torreira …………Xhaka
    Aubameyang ……….Ozil ………… Iwobi
    ………………………Lacazette

    1. Can I ask why you have put iwobi in your team ?just curious because what I’ve seen this season he wouldn’t even get into a championship team let alone a team ment to be pushing for a champions league place

  4. Why we are not using jenkinson at right back.
    Jenkinson-Lichtsteiner-Sokratis-Monreal-Sead
    Use xhaka in middle please

  5. LOL…fact that admin’s predicted line up is a defense of 5 man at the back and a few others posting line up of t defense really makes me laugh…. Lmao, 5 man defense at home? Against Burnley? Next week, we should expect ⅞ man defense against Liverpool then? SMH

  6. So with all the so called positive football talk on this site and the big if and but about Mesut Ozil no one questions why are we having this much injuries Welcome to England Emery where there is more games and an unfavorable weather pattern I say he’s over working our boys cause there is just too much injuries now but no one seems to care cause he’s making them fighters kmt a real joke
Piers Morgan made real sense when saying if Emery side line Ozil this weekend his job would be on the line because Emery wasn’t signed to buy a team he was employed to coach one so who’s really in trouble here results matter or do they not?

    1. So you think Emerys job may soon be on the line then! We clearly live on different planets, you and I. I am on Earth. What planet are YOU on?

  7. sokratis red card on the way ,,poor defender beaten 1 on 1 to easily, the lucas one lol should b in the WWF
