Arsenal v Leicester Review – A perfect 10 as Emery’s subs come good again

Unai Emery put out a very good Arsenal team, although there was definitely some rotation included and the left back situation seems a bit strange. As usual the Gunners started very sluggishly and the first half was not at all impressive and no one was very surprised Leicester took the lead after half an hour as this has not been unusual for Arsenal this season, but that is when we usually start playing. The goal could be considered a bit lucky as Bellerin gave the perfect deflection for the shot to blindside Leno, but not unexpected.

But Arsenal did start playing after that and were totally in control as Leicester tried to sit back and try to get to half-time in front, but the much-maligned German Mesut Ozil (Herr Capitan!) gave us a sublime bit of magic, with help from Bellerin, to give us an equalizer in added time. So we go into the break level and with the certainty that we will score more in the second half….

The second half saw Leicester trying the dirty tricks with Madisson going down like he was shot when Holding touched his chin in a race for the ball, but in the next few minutes Iwobi fed two great balls which Mhkitaryan could quite convert to give us a deserved lead. In fact he had three half chances in the first 5 minutes of the second period. After that burst the Foxes came back into it and there were few chances created in the next 15 minutes although Arsenal obviously had the upper hand but it was Leicester who came closet when a corner ended up with a header coming off the bar.

With exactly half an hour left, Emery did his usual excellent subs and Aubameyang and Guendouzi came on. Two minutes later we were in front through Aubameyang and just another 3 minutes saw us put the game to bed through Aubameyang yet again. My prediction of 3-1 is looking good but I can see Arsenal scoring a lot more if they carry on playing like this…

But Arsenal decided to relax a little and make Leicester fight hard to get the ball by playing around to increase the possession stats and keep the Foxes away from the ball, and why not, as we have to play again in Lisbon on Thursday. We have three points and an amazing tenth win in row. They deserve a rest lol.

Arsenal looked very relaxed after the third goal whereas last season we panicked if we went in front, and we panicked when we went behind. Now we are showboating with ease and keeping the ball and looking like we are not going to lose any time soon….

And thankyou Arsenal for making my bet come good lol

Onwards and Upwards!

  1. gotanidea says:

Good win, but Leicester dominated in the first half. I wonder why Emery did not set up the same dynamic 4-4-2:

    – Lacazette: Worked hard as usual, but did not get the opportunity to score. Perhaps Aubameyang would replace him in the next EPL game?

    – Ozil: World class no 10 display today, my MOTM. His unwillingness to chase the robbed ball initiated Leicester’s goal, but then he replied with a composed finish. One sharp through ball for Bellerin’s assist to Aubameyang and he made an excellent assist himself

    – Iwobi: Good display of strength, ball control and skills. Glad to see his confidence increasing

    – Mkhitaryan: Worked hard, but did not really click with the others

    – Xhaka: Like Beckham, good look and dead ball talent are the only special things of him

    – Torreira: Pressed hard as usual, but also nothing special

    – Bellerin: Unintentional ball diversion by him, but he is the king of assists again today. His defending still needs some improvements, but his pace, skills, deliveries and stamina are top notch

    – Lichtsteiner: Tortured by Ricardo Pereira, but okay in overall defending. Sucks in attacking as usual

    – The CBs and the GK: Did well

    1. RSH says:

      Torreira nothing special today?????

      1. gotanidea says:

        1. RSH says:

Heavily disagree. He was all over the pitch today. didn’t let Leicester midfielders breath in 2nd half, and his distribution was quick and accurate. Everything you want from a CDM. He let’s our attackers play with so much freedom. he had an outstanding game.

          1. Declan says:

Yes RSH someone’s having a laugh!

          2. Rkw says:

Torreira was superb for 90 minutes … He works his socks off but more importantly he is in complete control of his game and like all top quality midfielders he creates time an space for those around him … Unfortunately for us one of those is xhaka … The French kid though still raw around the edges is a better option as unlike xhaka he drives the ball forward

          3. Kenny Rolfe says:

Don’t worry guys, the Torriera nothing special quote came from gotanidea, he sees a different game to anyone else. I have to give Alex Iwobi some credit, got to admit, I was one of those that wrote him off under Wenger, however under Unai, he looks a different player, a new signing. All I can say is good for him, I’m not the only one he’s proved wrong and if he keeps improving at the present rate, the sky’s the limit.

          4. Kenny Rolfe says:

Got to add, hope the Cech / Leno debate is over. Another brilliant performance by the young German keeper and the confidence he gives the defence cannot be underestimated. No dithering on the ball, superb distribution and exceptional save from Maguire.

          5. ozziegunner says:

Two great saves by Leno and had everything else covered. Unlucky for the Bellerin deflected goal.

          6. Leo says:

            correct.. he was exceptional

        2. Maks says:

You gotaindea did not answer my question how old are you? If you are very young then I understand your posts althogh I know 12 years old boys who knows football much better the you do.
          Torreira was masterfull today!

      2. Kenyanfan says:

This is why wenger broke the bank for class and if he can play like this week in week out then the deserves 300k he gets.
Am also glad that these days he is scoring for fun.
No wonder Germany is tet to win a game without the gen.
Auba…oh my.The king is here.Goal machine.EPL top scorer to be

        1. Maks says:

Wenger did not broke the bank for Ozil – The Board did!
I hope Wenger will break the bank for his son ramsey by bringing him to Japan or wherever.

          1. jon fox says:

Technically it was in fact the owner, not even the board. But the decision was Wengers and first the board then, vitally, the owner too, sanctioned it. And nor did they break the bank, as you put it. It happened that the mean owner , for once put his hand in his considerably deep pocket. Ask Kroenkes accountant if it “broke the bank” and watch him scornfully laugh .

        2. Goonster says:

Ozil has been having these purple patches of performances since he joined Arsenal. He will have a good few weeks or two or so months then go back to the same old Ozil we are now used to.
I want to see a sustained 6 or so months of high performances from him like otyer Top players keep doing season after season. Not a good game here and there and then go back to the normal sloth / Koala bear Ozil that is so frustrating..
But credit where it’s due, he had his best performance since last year.

      3. Mohamed Aziz says:

        Hawajafa was watching mother game?

      4. Blago says:

Best performance this season. Leceister are a good head to beat team.

        1. Blago says:

          Meant head to beat

      5. Janebrix says:

Leave him. He will tell me if its the same match we watched. Torreira nothing special? You for try am i.e not start him then you would known his impact. My guy was everywhere he basically helped mustafi look like a decent defender and also attack wise.

    2. kev says:

I like your ratings because it considers the whole game not just a moment. However, Torreira was very good.I’ve forgotten the man who said he is a tactical interceptor like Sergio Busqets. His best strength is not 1v1 but he just steps in at the right time before things get bad.

  2. Jerick says:

Got to give it to Xhaka for stepping into that LB role and doing it quite well. Wanted Lacazette to score but he played well nonetheless. Now we focus on Sporting.

    1. Abel says:

His 2nd half performance was calm and composed, much better than his erratic first half.
Kudos to him for not picking a second booking despite t best efforts of Madison to get him sent off.

  3. RSH says:

Leicester didn’t stand a chance 2nd half. This is the performance we were waiting for. Essentially perfect the second we gave up the first goal. MOTM Ozil by a mile, but Iwobi, and Toreirra were also very impressive as well. And Emirates crows was excellent as well. Nice to finally feel good about Arsenal again. Emery is doing quite a job. Onto the next one!

    1. mobella says:

Anyone that actually watched the game with an open mind will see that Leicester only play in the first twenty to twenty five minutes of the the half and no one that understand football can call that dominating the first half as the score was even. It was not like we didn’t do anything. Arsenal had more possession, more passes, more corner kicks. Thanks to Emery for playing Ozil in his natural position.

      1. kev says:

Accept the truth. We were dominated in the first half but we dominated them in the second. Is this so hard to accept? If you watched the game you’d know this. There are the smaller team so much credit was given to them in the first half where they should’ve scored more.

        1. mobella says:

WHAT Truth!!! did I watch the game with your eyes or mine. I’m stating what i saw with my eyes in the first halftime table and you have the audacity to tell me to say the truth, your truth you fcuking egoist who always look for a way to rubbish the good work of my team in the name of airing an opinion. Now park well, I’m not here for you.

          1. kev says:

            Stupendous comment!!!

        2. Nonny says:

As usual always talking trash… you thing even city will dominate the whole 90 minute against liechester you dreaming…as if we are playing a national league team…I watch other people’s match and city aside we played far better than many other top clubs even pool by far…..this guy always full of negativity and crap with trash… how can someone after such a convincing win comeup with a nonsense like leister dominated the 1st half crap.your comments irritates many here just can’t keep ignoring urban stupid post after post @kev

      2. RSH says:

Emery: “We need to continue improving and make our demands very high. In every match in the first 30 minutes we are suffering more than we want. The team’s reaction is very important.”

      3. jon fox says:

I thought , to be every accurate , Leicester dominated only from about 14th to 33rd minutes. That was when our defence looked all at sea. Rest of match we were on top.

  4. kev says:

What can I say that I haven’t said before.Xhaka is Xhaka.Even though of normal quality his performances will still be defended by some fans who called Wenger an “underachiever”.Please remind me in the next or so match when he scores a good goal and people will be back talking about how Torreira makes him better.

    1. Rashid80 says:

if you think xhaka’s job is to score goals you need to watch a different sport mate

      1. gotanidea says:

One of the things I dislike from him is his wasteful shots

        1. kev says:

The guy is a dreadful player.I want him to leave even more than Mustafi another typical modern day CB;good ball playing CB skills but average in actual “defending”.

          1. Rkw says:

Spot on kev the guy is a sham footballer … Sloppy weak limited skill level ocassional excellent cross field pass … Not EPL level that’s for sure

        2. Sarmmie says:

Obviously, you hate granit xhaka, it’s not as if he doesn’t score from them at all, looks like you’re always looking for something to say against him, this is the first time you’re mentioning wasteful shots as a weakness
Well,, one of the best rating sites in the world thinks it’s a strength
So pls keep your dislike(in my opinion, hate) to yourself

      2. kev says:

Where did I say his job is to score a goal. He’s so bad I don’t even know what to say anymore.

        1. Cmon Kev why are you always finding something to complain about?! Didn’t that performance make you happy?! It was fantastic, superb goals..focus on that, the beautiful goals.

          1. kev says:

Please let me focus on this dreadful CM we have.Do you know how annoying it is to see people make excuses after excuses for him while players like Iwobi will be destroyed by fans for even the smallest of mistakes.Thankfully, he’s now improved and proving people wrong but Xhaka is Xhaka. He does not have the quality to be a starter for any top team in the EPL.

          2. Chabaloah says:

Kev as much as Xhaka annoys me I have to applaud him. There were points in the game where instead of bombing forward, he stayed back and waited as he read who were around him and ahead of him. Iwobi released/lost the ball and xhaka was there to pick up the rebound/interception. His job is to collect, pass, intercept and add steel to our midfield, of which he did well and even moved to LB to accommodate.

I cannot fault his performance really and I think it’s a little unfair to criticise him so much when he has genuinely improved his game and is getting better. His reading of the game is good and Emery like Wenger saw promise in him. At the world Cup he played brilliantly too. So relax.

        2. Fresh says:

It’s obvious you hav a personal problem with him!

  5. Rashid80 says:

thats what I always wanted to see! direct football is what we should be going for! no more guardiola’s barca wanna be possession!

    1. gotanidea says:

I thought Wenger could pull it off

But after several years of trying that style, it was very apparent that Arsenal will never be able to play like Barcelona. Simply because they have La Masia

      1. kev says:

I don’t agree with you.The style of play may be the same but the way we did it was far far different under Wenger. The way Wenger played his game was different from the way Barca played their “tiki taka”.Also,Wenger did not become unsuccessful because of his style of play.It was largely due to his poor management in terms of signings, tactics and many more.Even the current Wenger can still go to a club like Bayern and win big things with the same style of play.Quality at times can even overshadow a coach’s poor tactics hence why some normal coaches still win big trophies.

        1. Break-on-through says:

Aren’t you the life of the party, cheer up Kev. You should enjoy it while it lasts, still winning, whoopee!

    2. RSH says:

yup. It was never going to happen. even barca dont play like Guardiola’s barca anymore. It was a once in a lifetime team they had and Guardiola himself cant replicate it at the clubs he’s been to.

    3. Maks says:

What wenger was trying to do has nothing to do with Barca style of play. It was all in his head but nobody understand it at all except he pushed some players who did not deserved first 11. I am sooo happy that he is faaar away from Arsenal FC.

  6. AlexLaca9 says:

iwobi is really impressing me, he’s turning into a very valuable asset on the wings. the armband turning ozil into the leader everyone was hoping for after sanchez left. our first halfs look average but wow does this team come alive in second half. I’m a happy gooner

  7. Uzi Ozil says:

Always an entertaining game against Leicester. Emery Arsenal is now a second half team. They hit you hard in the second half… Pierre scoring pretty well from the bench. Unleash him when the defenders are tired but I know he will start games.

Ozil had an incredible game. When he is on song, he is bloody good. Just hope for consistency.

    Great win….

    1. Enagic says:

He is because we are playing with mediocre teams what we did today should have done with City,Manchester and Liverpool otherwise we are 2nd best

      1. EmeryMarch says:

No team is mediocre in premier league. Why are we so damn critical of our team. Other teams have bad days and they don’t get half as tongue lashed as this team

  8. Charlie Nick says:

Ozil won that for us…remember that

  9. Sue says:

    Another awesome 2nd half performance!
    Ozil ?????
I’m loving this run, we are playing some beautiful football. Torreira was brilliant, but my MOTM goes to the one & only Mesut Ozil….. take a bow ?

    1. Maks says:

Ozil played very well in the 1st part of 1st half as well, but Leicester pushed hard all over the pitch.

    2. John Wick says:

Torreira is a beast Sue ? Ozil was outstanding.. long may this continue, absolutely buzzing ?

      1. Sue says:

It was brilliant John!!! So happy!!!! ???

        1. John Wick says:

Keep smiling Sue another win coming on Thursday ??

    3. Ozil was electrifying! Proper midfield maestro pulling the strings, controlling the game. Everything went through him. I had predicted a well rested Ozil would do wonders today, so I got the score right and Ozil hunch right…am buying a lottery ticket tomorrow!

      1. Sue says:

Oooh get you QD….. you’ll be dreaming about Ozil tonight ??

    4. Pat says:

My dear sue how about IWOBI!! Some love? ????????. You know am not going to let you be until you say ‘ I love Iwobi’ ???

      1. Sue says:

Oh Pat!!! He kept losing the ball in the first half, but was much better in the 2nd… all my love is for Ozil tonight …. so your wait goes on ????

        1. Pat says:

Me too anyway. He was fantastic tonight. We hope he can keep playing like this. OZIL!!!!!

  10. Sarmmie says:

I’m not saying we should always concede first before we score, but I’m happy the players had to fight back to win today, if we get to win our matches easily all the time, the players might forget what it’s like to fight back from a goal down, and this could happen of we face another big team.
That mentality of fighting back if you happen to concede first should always be there

Great win, however, I really loved the game

  11. Declan says:

Some great goals but Iwobi my man of the match. Looks like we’ve got a new best left back,…… Xhaka.

    1. Maks says:

Iwobi was great in the 2nd half but in 1st he was loosing balls ramsey style, and after there was lot s of threat to our defence. I think it is all about confidence for Iwobi. He ll grow from game to game. I have a feeling he ll shine in Liverpool game.

      1. Break-on-through says:

I think Iwobi sparked it with some absolute Baller! stuff coming from him, it was before we start looking likely and likelier for that late equalizer. The goal against certainly put us into gear, tempo wise, but Iwobi got the fans going too and Mesut was getting more touches. Mesut the man of the match, but there was so much to appreciate throughout that game.

  12. Dan says:

Very good second half performance but if we play like we did in the first 30 odd mins of first half against Liverpool we will get anialated would have been 3 or 4 down and no coming back from that against the top teams!!

  13. sol says:

    1. Aardvark says:

      Stop SHOUTING please

      1. sol says:

        @Aardvark…how dare u!…..MORON..

        1. ozziegunner says:

He’s right; it’s a matter of etiquette. Use of capitals are equivalent to shouting.
Sol, Aardvark responded respectfully; too bad you couldn’t do the same.

          1. Sol says:

@ozziegunner…thank u for the comment but that was my feeling.

        2. ozziegunner says:

The impressive thing about the game against a very solid Leicester side, was that when Leicester went a goal up, the team’s heads didn’t drop. They picked themselves up and fought back into the game, with an inspirational captain’s goal by Mezut Ozil.
What is Holding doing waving his arms about above his head? On another day a penalty would be awarded.
What does Lacazette have to do to win a penalty; be hit over the head with the cross bar?
Too bad Mhikataryan and Aubameyang didn’t have their shooting boots on against Chelsea, so that the pundits wouldn’t have any axe to grind regarding Arsenal having not beaten anyone yet. You can only play the team in front of you and in previous seasons Arsenal would have drawn or lost some of these games.
First time since 2007 Arsenal has won 10 games on the trot. Four more wins to match George Graham’s record of 14 straight wins. The hard work put in by Unai Emery, the staff and the players appears to be paying off and the team is playing with enthusiasm and joy.
Heads up to Mezut Ozil as #10 and captain; long may it continue to show Germany what they are missing.

  14. des1456 says:

This is a wonderful 2nd half performance from the lads yet again.

Ozil put up a world class performance with a sublime finish, an excellent through ball for bellerin for the second and a wonderful assist for the third. His overall performance today was top notch.

Unai emery is surely a great tactician and analyst he observed quickly that Leicester attack were coming from the right hand side through their full back cus of failure from our Armenian to track back he switched positions with iwobi and Leicester were attacks were few and far between.

    Great match guys.

  15. J says:

Proud to have my Arsenal back :0) Ozil MOTM, Iwobi has been transformed under Emery – Onwards and upwards!

  16. Eddie Hoyte says:

Guys I know you’ll say I’m getting ahead of myself… but shhhhhhh! Let people enjoy the little things, Lol….after our 2nd and 3rd goal with how we passed the ball..I was shouting “Arsenal is back ” please and please I have no complaints tonight, I asked for 3 points and I got it.
Nobody should come remind me of what’s coming ahead, Just STFU and enjoy the moment

  17. kenya01 Ars fan says:

wow just wow….. our arsenal is back with a bang should i say.? happy times ??

  18. Maks says:

Hugeeely important win and with a style, oooh Yeaaah! Liverpool here we come!
    Leno 8
    – brilliant 1st game at home, great save from Maguires head, calm and confident
    Bellerin 10
    – his best game for Arsenal!
    Mustafi 8
    – better then before, still room to improve (maybe)
    Holding 7
    – had a hard game but kept his calm and great for his experiance
    Lichtsteiner 6
    – he has difficulties adopting to Arsenal s game, and maybe his years showed tonight. we need better sub for Monreal
    Aubameyang 9
    – superhero!
    Torreira 9
    – machine!
    Xhaka 8
    – one of the better perfomances, and good versitile display on the flank
    Mkhitaryan 7
    – still thinking of Gibraltar game, should have score with littlebit of extra luck
    Guendouzi 9
    – he still looks 10 years older, in the positive way
    Özil 10
    – Master! Our captain!
    Ramsey 9
    – 9 for sitting on the bench most of the time and not spoiling our game (he ll get 10 when he s out of the club)
    Iwobi 8
    – he would get 10 for the 2nd half, lost lot s of balls in the first half an hour which could have cost us more then it did
    Lacazette 8
    – missed some, maybe he wanted to score too much

Emery? I hope wenger watched tonight s game, alone in his flat/house on his birthday… Now, finally everybody can see how bad he was for Arsenal after Invincibles,

    1. ArsenalGR says:

Wow you tend to give away the 10s a bit too easily! For me it is Özil who gets the 10 and Iwobi with a 9.5 just behind him! Laughed hard with Ramsey’s 9 though! Apparently Wenger was at the stadium tonight, saw him giving an interview before the match. A nice birthday present from the team, or not?

      1. Maks says:

Sorry for lot s of 10’s but I got carried away by very important victory! 🙂
Yeah, I should have know better about Wenger whereabouts on his birthday. I dnt hate the guy, actually I am sorry for him.

  19. waal2waal says:

….Leno (elect keeper#1) done his bit to save us some blushes but in the end we deserved this win and Ozil again showed he can unleash his class when in the mood – i just hope he remains in this mood against L’pool so the confidence grows more and more throughout this team.

…once again happy for supporters, happy for the team and a big thumbs up to Emery.

  20. John Wick says:

Unai Emery… That man can make a sub! Unai is gonna make arsenal great again ? COYG ???

      1. mobella says:

Sue, has Ozil ever scored banal goal. You know a goal you don’t ask yourself how hell did he do that.

      2. John Wick says:

  21. Sarmmie says:

A few days ago, I said something about hating being played off position for someone else you’re better than in that position, tonight is the first time this season ozil started in his play making position and we can all see the result.
I never doubted his abilities, only his willingness, and tonight, he showed how world class, yes, world class, he can be when he puts the efforts.
Who remembers that iwobi’s cross that mkhitaryan missed that ozil chased, I was surprised he could get to that ball. That’s ozil showing his willingness.
And for those that attributed Germany’s failures to ozil…

    1. RobinVanPaySlip'sBeenAwfullyQuietAboutIwobi says:

“Who remembers that iwobi’s cross that mkhitaryan missed that ozil chased, I was surprised he could get to that ball. That’s ozil showing his willingness.”

I remember seeing that! And I was pleasantly surprised.
      Spot on with your comment.

  22. ArsenalGR says:

I agree with the most things already said here, but bear in mind that Leicester could have led 2-1 at half time had the referee given the penalty at Holding’s hand play. Then it could have easily been 3-1 had Ndidi aimed better. But that’s football… Only regret that Laca didn’t score that sitter though. Seemed a bit unsure in front of goal since Auba scored twice ahead of him. Hope he repays it in the next match. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed our performance in the 2nd half today! More of that please! COYG!

    1. Sue says:

Poor old Laca, just wasn’t his night tonight

  23. Otunba_007 says:

Iwobi man of the match? he was so good but I think Ozil was superb… I still can’t believe Owen Hargreaves still thinks Spuds is better than us and has a better chance at attaining top four … we are staking our claims and people talk as if Leicester were just going to let us get it easy and let us play our silk footy, but it wasn’t the case, we had to fight and dig deep and we could even have got more goal, I say let the media continue with all there talks while we do ours on the pitch, I am still not getting ahead of myself but I am enjoying every single match… Gunner for life ???

Özil led by example. Played in his favourite No10 position and delivered some silky touches, dummies, deft finish and brilliant assist. Will the captain’s band bring consistency to his game? I hope so, cos when he’s at his best……
I clearly see why Bellerin just can’t be benched. His pace, stamina and assists are priceless right now. I still think he’ll make a great winger. May be we should buy a right back and play Bellerin up front.
I still think Lacazette is more aggressive but Aubameyang has better positioning and is more clinical. Great game, especially the 2nd half.
    Sporting, here we come!

Lacazette works a lot harder, takes up great positions by intelligent runs and draws defengers away from other Arsenal attackers. On a number of occasions in the Leicester game, he missed out on scoring opportunities due to misplaced passes (Iwobi and Bellerin please note).

      Happy days Innit

Another good win! Arsenal keep raking the goals. Unfortunately, one was in the wrong post. 10 in 10 is not lucky at all.

14 pnts ahead of maureen’s lot (already) – who would’ve believed it was how things would pan out so early on in the campaign?

  28. Sue says:

City are the only team to have scored more than us!

I want to Phil to appreciate iwobi

    1. Phil says:

Iwobi played well in second half.Lots of hard work.Still ZERO end product.Ive said before he is performing better than the last two seasons under Wenger and for that he must thank Emery. But although his link up play is improving he needs to find ways to score and assist. But I give the boy credit where it is due.He is obviously benefits from having proper COACHING in his Arsenal career for the first time since leaving the youth set-up.But he has a long way to go to get to the level he needs to be at before he convinces me of his true ability.

      1. Phil says:

Off Topic-For anyone at the game tonight can you believe how good the atmosphere was as the fans were making their way out of the ground after the match.Emery has certainly raised the enthusiasm with supporters which is so very different to the sometimes toxic atmosphere last season. This Manager is proving to be a very very good choice.

        1. Bosh says:

Fully agree. I was at the game today, first time since Wenger left.. It had a totally different feel to it. Very impressed with the attitude of the players and fans since Emery has taken the helm, the players would have had their heads down after being down, and the fans dead silent.

Ozil’s best performance for us yet. If he plays 20-25 games like this a season it will be Fantastic. If he plays like this against the other top 6 teams then he will be a legend. Tonight was just one amazing performance by him, lets enjoy it but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I am impressed by the improvement by Iwobi, he is still far from the finished product but he is on the right path and with more coaching by Unai we might have a proper winger in our hands.

Torreira is a beast. He is the first name on the team sheet. His defensive positional awareness is what makes the system work. Brilliant player.

Bellerin is also getting better with the proper coaching. I think he has been playing very well and tonight he was impressive again.

For me the Leno/Cech debate is over. If we are going to continue building from the back, Leno is the keeper for the team.

The only two negatives I am constantly seeing in this team at the moment are Xhaka, who is definitely not the player we need next to Torreira. Maybe AMN would be better, and once he is fully recovered Unai might give him a chance or two there.

The second negative for me is still the lack of a proper world class defender. I mean Van Dijk class defender, a beast is what we need there and we dont have one yet. Maybe Holding or Mavros can become one but that’s probably a few seasons away.

We are coming along, still need a bit of work and 2-3 players, but unlike Arsene’s last 10 years where we were always 2-3 players away from a great squad, I think Unai and the admin team will get the right 2-3 players in the next couple of transfer windows.

Lacazette will score again, hes putting himself in good positions. He’s just unlucky tonight.

  32. ade says:

Great win, I am so happy, especially for d manager, he has proved himself to be the right choice. The team is really improving I must confess . I say tnk u and well done to all the players no hate on any player from me, because football is a team work

  33. Abu says:

What remains for this team is playing with same intensity as they did after they conceded and through the second half.
Keep the momentum and the winning factor against big teams your strength and how much you had made will be fully tested. That’s when we’ll begin to dream dreams, for now we are not far off from 1st 2nd 3rd on the table any slip off from either banng!!!!
Keep ’em coming and keep working hard. Going in the right direction thus far.

  34. Grandad says:

Apart from his sublime skills which are as good as any attacking midfielder in Europe, Ozil , under Emery is working really hard off the ball, something he never did under Wenger.I never thought he was capable of becoming a real team player but he is proving me wrong and put in a real captains performance.Long may it continue. In the absence of Monreal the back four was completely unbalanced as Lich is clearly uncomfortable at left back. It’s not his fault as he was signed purely as a stop gap back up for Bellerin who should be rested in Portugal after the miles he covered last night.Young Iwobi is gaining in confidence and should start at the expense of Mik who has yet to catch fire.A very good performance in the second half with Torreria bossing the midfield.
