Arsenal v Liverpool Review – Late show by Lacazette means Arsenal’s unbeaten run continues

There were rumours before the game that Klopp was going to try and take advantage of Arsenal-s slow starts to every game by going for the jugular from the off, but it was Arsenal that managed to control most of the first 45 minutes.

Lucas Torreira was outstanding and is going to be pivotal for us this season. Mane had the ball in the back of the net which was clearly offside but the twat on BTSports was adamant it should have counted, although when Arsenal, through Lacazette, did the same thing from a narrow offside decision it was 100% offside!

But Arsenal did not look inferior at all and although the pundits *Hi Paul Merson you twat!( predicted a walkover for the Reds we looked to be the better team on the pitch.

Into the second half and Arsenal continued their calm superiority until suddenly after 15 minutes Leno made a hash of a cross and palmed it out straight to James Milner who calmly slotted it home. Milner has never lost a game that he has scored in before so we have a mountain to climb but Arsenal are used to going behind in every game so hopefully they will come back as usual.

Arsenal didn’t drop their heads and just 4 minutes later it was Torreira in the centre forward position and with just Allison to beat he banged it close enough to the keepers hands that he could knock it over the bar.

Emery tried to do his magic and brought on Iwobi and Ramsey for Mhkitaryan and Aubameyang but Liverpool were starting to look very comfortable despite more urgency from the Gunners. Kolasinac was causing trouble down the wings and got a few good crosses in but with no luck. Emery through on Welbeck with ten mins to go but Kolasinac was the surprising one to go off.

But whatever Emery told them it worked very quickly as within a minute Lacazette ha equalised brilliantly and suddenly Arsenal were back in the game. And they went all out attack to try and get the winner and wereckeeping Liverpool away from the ball. Welbeck nearly had a chance but unluckily the ball hit his hand. Then Bellerin was set up perfectly but he is not good with his left foot and it was miles wide.

Holding looked very assured against Salah, who was taken off at the death to preserve Liverpool’s point, and despite some late Liverpool pressure the Gunners held on for a good draw against one of the best teams around….

  1. Arsenal players were pumped up, but they were also lucky for not conceded more

They misplaced some passes, but the most obvious shortage is the lack of players that are willing to dribble past the opponents. Liverpool are lucky to have that type of player in Salah and Mane, whereas Arsenal only had it after bringing Iwobi in

I hope they can bring in a new young player in January to add more energy into the team

    1. Xhaka was too good today even I couldn’t believe it.Im not the kind of person to hype up overrated performances but he was so good along with Mustafi too.
As I said before the match that win or lose its how we play that will tell us of we are contenders or not.On evidence of this match our attack is a title winning attack but the lapses in defending means it’s questionable if we can go that far. This performance is not a fluke and I might be called stupid but we bested a so called title challenging club.I can confidently say we will win something this season though not the EPL.Im gutted because we should be won the match.

        1. Yes a team full of stars today, Torriera manof the match but Holding Mustafi and Xhaka were also exceptional. Iwobi came on and gave a lot of new problems for Pool and set up the goal. Great game and I can’t even criticise Leno,

        2. I didn’t celebrate the Laca goal Pat, tears welled my eyes because it suddenly dawned on me that we finally have our Arsenal back. It’s been soooooo long since we had a great GK, a strong skillful DM and a great attack. We could win champions league with this team pals. This is all so sweet I feel like crying

      1. Both of them were quite fast and decisive in defending, but Xhaka’s playmaking skill was not impressive

Arsenal were better in possession, but Liverpool played the offside traps better and they had several shots that hit the bar. In my opinion, Liverpool showed they are the title challenger and their attack is very strong

        1. Xhaka was MOTM from my point of view.He was positionally excellent. It made our midfield tight.Him and Torreira were playing like they were holding a rope together.

          1. “Xhaka play making skill was not good”! Gotanidea, what game was you watching, his cross field forward passes were amazing at times. He was second only to Torriera for me.

        2. Wow, probably Xhaka’s best performance for Arsenal and you still harsh his performance. Will you ever rate him? He could score a hattrick and you’d bitch about his pace I’m sure. SMFH

Thought he bossed it today, stepped up and delivered what we needed. Great partnership with Torreria.

      2. yeah i felt like he came on this forum read what us guys think, and said to himself i’m not mobile just look at those tackles and interceptions, to me he was unbeleivable and so was torreira those two quick tackles in rapid succession when they looked like opening us up just wow you could hear the crowd roar!! Happy with the point we so deserved something from this game, and the manager switching the flank to an all out attack was risky and it paid off ( he was like Saed is not providing any defence so might as well have an all attacking left side) focused just on attacking and holding tracking salah when iwobi was up there was brilliant!! we got tactics finally a happy gunner!! also that set piece corner if taken by granit with power would have been straight from the training ground, have to say it again just loved Emery’s energy and enthusiasm he made klopp look like the passive one and that says alot, at one point he was talking to himself pointing at where the ball should be played, just love that players feed off that energy and the fans will feed off the players energy. Great game to watch and happy with the result we could have won it so the draw seems fair to me, VVD was a monster just sayin worth every penny!!

    2. Maybe I saw a different game here in the States than you. Thought we traded punches and went toe to toe with Liverpool.

Thought we dominated midfield with Xhaka and Torreira, and I would argue we looked the better side for most of the game.

We seemed to hold our own despite not having anyone to dribble past opponents. Felt Liverpool capitalized on a mistake for their goal, while Arsenal dribbled, created, and used technique to score ours.

Anyway, coming back to equal is ok, and improving continually is even better. Emery looking a good choice, and Torreira is a diamond in the midfield. Absolute lock to start if he’s healthy.

P.S. give Sven more money, and he’ll bring in the quality.

      1. Klopp’s Liverpool is the master of forcing their opponents to make mistakes

I believe Emery has similar concept with his high pressing strategy. He would need several transfer windows to get the players that can play like that

          1. Thought we outpressed Liverpool today myself, but guess I need glasses. Gotnoidea watching last years game maybe? It ended 1-1, but reading his comments you would think 4-3 to Liverpool.

He can’t even praise Xhaka for top class performance today, and complains about his playmaking. Ozil is the 10 not Xhaka, perhaps he was unaware. He also ignored Xhaka breaking up play, spraying wonderful passes across the pitch, and the beautiful pivot work with Torreria.

But hey, ignore the facts and berate Xhaka for his quality today. SMH, what does he want from Xhaka; hattrick?

            1. they couldn’t even press us that’s how good we where, smart play and just moving the ball around, there was one brilliant moment when they all pressed several times waiting for leno to make the mistake and he just lofts the ball to center and off we went, 5 of liverpools player caught out with that simple pass after a few backpasses…. that to me showed that the players are embracing the managers philosphy quicker than expected.

if we where honest and this was not the Champions League Finalist they where second best apart from an offside goal, a couple of half chances, and that VVD header that’s it, we had more chances and was so happy with the first half display we where in it and by the end about to score, we where the better team and dominated them at times which they didn’t do to us, so happy days.

a shout out to bellerin who played with an injury and did very well, which side looked more weak to you against one of the best trio in the league the left or the right?, that alone should tell you what he brings imagine if lich played there today what would have happened against Mane.

will revist this again end of season for sure, every one was great we had 1 mistake by leno, 1 and a half by mustafi which is great for him, and i think that’s it solid concentrated!! two and a half chances that where defensive errors against liverpool that’s immense, one word SOLID!! miki lost the ball way too many times for my liking but won’t kick him whilst he’s down hope he improves for the sake of all of his supporters ,and again happy with the point. COYG

    3. gotanidea,
Dont worry Nelson is patiently waiting.

A United fan said after the game today,
“Mourinho is such a useless manager, look at how Enery has transformed this team so quickly”

That statement made me appreciate and love Emery even more, i hope these lads achieve something this season….

      1. ?????. He has started struggling to say he will finish top 4, maybe so that he gets the 100m that was promised. But my sister said why don’t Man U sack him, pay him 10m out of the 100m and then give a new manger who can transform the team the remaining 90M. ??

    4. If I were you I would change my name to got NO idea! Talk about out of step with virtually all others. What game did you actually watch; a different one from other Gooners , I suggest.

      1. Jon, please don’t bother with gotanidea, all he ever want’s to be is controversial. Even with your vast experience you cannot educate him. He comes out with stuff like “our players must dribble better”, Footballers don’t talk like that, it’s hilarious, he’s never kicked a football in his life or been to a game. He plays football on his computer 24 hours a day, yeah, even in his sleep. His comments on these pages are the most ridiculous of all the bloggers.

    1. True Sue but they have to be a little bit ahead. Anyway Mr PAUL MERSON where are you. Liverpool did not beat Arsenal by more than 3 goals. As a matter of fact they did not beat use at all. Very good game, the team is improved a lot.

      1. Yes Pat we weren’t ripped to shreds like he said we would be!!! I’m very happy with that! Good ole Iwobi & Laca!
Even Gary Lineker tweeted about what Emery has done is significant ?

            1. Believe me Sue Paul Merson wil now deny he said anything about us getting done three or four nil or being ripped to shreds. This is exactly the reason as a gambler he was a failure. They can never admit the truth when they’re wrong. That’s why they do their money.

                1. Yes Sue, I was there, best game for a long while, we look a different side under Unai. I know you’re going next week, enjoy yourself Sue, where’s your seat? Mine is literally behind the tv gantry and believe me I give it to Neville and Carragher every time possible. The stewards have started to get the hump. I don’t care.

                  1. Thanks Kenny… we always sit in the family section.
Haha would love to hear that – I’d probably give them some too ?

        1. Sue , Why do any of us take any notice of that Chelski fan Merson? He has always been a buffoon so why take any notice at all.

  2. I must say Xhaka has shut me up with this performance was absolutely fantastic today. He was the MOTM.What a superb performance from him.He and Torreira were perfect today.A ten out of ten performance from the two of them.
This match was again proved how ineffective Auba is at LW and how Iwobi c0uldbe helped us win this match had he started. All we needed was one player who could take on a Liverpool player.Prior to that we were using only passing to open them up.Mustafi other than not challenging Names cross was good today.I love Emery and I love my team. From how we played our attack says we are contenders but our defending i.e at times says otherwise.

      1. Actually I wanted Auba to start at CF and Laca benched. He offered nothing up until his all important goal. That is what an excellent CF does though.Good on him as it was a world class finish But my word Xhaka!I couldn’t believe what I was seeing today.Gutted because we should’ve won this match.

        1. Well said Kev, you bash Xhaka when he’s bad, and praise a top top performance.
          #RespecttKevRespectingXhaka

    1. Spot on Kev!
I’m buzzing… I thought we’d lost, then Laca scored! Torreira’s a beast… I still love Kolasinac.. our unbeaten run goes on… I’m going to the Wolves game next Sunday… I love you Arsenal ????

      1. If this is how Xhaka will play every week then I won’t talk about him again.Clearly MOTM.However,I’m gutted though thought we should’ve won.Funny how some said we’d be thrashed.Feel sorry for Auba though. He’s a “ball to feet” player so expecting him to play LW for Arsenal relative to our style of play is expecting him to be a chance creator.

        1. Aubameyang would have to play as a winger again, because Lacazette just scored. Or maybe Emery would bench him for Iwobi

          1. We had the passing ability already. All we needed was one player who could beat a man which was Iwobi.Had he started more chances would’ve come from that left hand side.I felt we couldve won had he started.Auba just wants to run in behind so if Emery wants to start him he can try him out at RW.I believe for his style of play he’ll be as effective over there but Iwobi’s dribbling cannot be ignored or wasted on the bench.

    2. Yeah Wenger really misused xhaka he’s flourishing next to torreira. Was also very impressed with Ozil but for me from the arsenal side MOTM was hector bellerin. Defended, created, had shots was amazing. Unai Emery is a magician, all these players I thought were finished under arsene, Xhaka, cech, bellerin, iwobi, lacazette, holding all of them have been immense t hi is season. Only Mustafi still looks like a donkey. Although he has definitely improved. Good result for a team still in rebuilding glad to see all the boys were disappointed with a draw though. Arsenes team Would’ve celebrated like they won 3 points. MOTM of the game was easily Van dyke. What id give to have CB like that at arsenal, how many headers did that guy win, was absolutely ridiculous

      1. Of course Van Dyke is dominant in the air, because he is very tall and big. I hope Mavropanos can grow into that type of CB

        1. Yeah but he dominated us, from both ends. Honestly if lovren or Matip were playing instead Arsenal would’ve scored from all those Mustafi throughballs

      2. Yeah we struggled big time against VVD, and I think sometimes we’re a split second too late reacting to losing the ball. Liverpool had some great chances as well. Draw is a fair result. Defense is getting better slowly, and it’s essentially the same defense Wenger left Unai with.

    3. Im shocked Iwobi didn’t start. I really do wonder what the inspiration behind starting Miki was. Miki has looked like a loose puzzle piece this entire season and today was further proof. And yes, finding out how to involve Auba while also keeping Lacazette in the lineup will be a huge challenge. I’m sure Auba is happy with his goal tally but he’s very aware he isn’t always a present force in the game for long stretches.

      1. I’ve always rated Miki but for whatever reason he simply isn’t thriving under
Emery’s tutelage. He was the only Arsenal player today imho that looked a step
or 2 slow and should of been subbed off at halftime. I honestly never thought I
would utter these words but it is time for Iwobi to be that first name on the team
sheet alongside Ozil in the attacking midfield. With Welbeck’s improved form and
Nelson scoring goals for fun in the Bundesliga it might be time for the Armenian to
pursue greener futboling pastures come January.

  3. All I want to say is we should have won. Liverpool were our bitches for most of the game.

    What a goal by Laca!

  4. 14 unbeaten, and Emery’s first point off a top team. The progression continues! Holding improving a lot as well.

  5. ….some mug was banging on about how we would get a 3-0 drumming. We are as good as any side at home (for sure). Happy Birthday Unai the boys stood strong and earned that point today.

  6. Our ball recovery was excellent, decisive, and a joy to watch. Unai has really drilled discipline into this team.

  7. Well done boys! Arsenal need direct wingers/forwards that can take on defenders. We only have Iwobi for that. The team is shaping up. COYG!

  8. Laca is the next best striker after henry, we could have won this game with iwobi starting.Ozil missing as usual, overall a good game by the rest.Holding looks to be a big game player.Hope we build on this performance

  9. The winners today are arsenal defence… Great calmness and composure on the ball. Unlucky to concede but I never expected such performance after weeks of shaky defending. Shoutout to rob for being a rock.

    1. In Rob Holding, we have uncovered a gem who will be the centre piece of our defence for years to come. Kocielny and Socratis would only jostle for Mustafi’s slot but never Holding’s.
Holding is so calm and unfazed. doesn’t panic like Mustafi.

  10. I cant imagine what Emery would do if he bought his own players, what a tactician!

Xhaka was a beast alongside Tor!
Cech wont get in this team, Leno is just too good reminds me of Manuel Neuer.
    Mhkitaryan killed us imo.
Cant really complain, fair result for me…coyg!

  11. Enjoyable game …sloppy at back on occasion that could have cost us but all round good performance … Only real dissapointment was Miki … Didn’t really click at all … Have to say I don’t think holding is receiving enough praise … Hugely improved player

    1. He’s taking either Mustafi or Sokratis’ spot. He’s been immense and behind Torreira was my runnerup MOTM.

      1. He isn’t taking anyone’s slot. he’s got a nailed on slot! everyone else gotta fight for the remaining slot beside him!

    2. Mkhitaryan should be played as a CAM in a 4-2-3-1 or a CM in a 4-3-3..he is not a winger!!! Hope Emery realizes this and puts him where he is comfortable he is struggling a lot at RW.

  12. Torreira, Xhaka, Laca, Holding, Hector all deserve the man of the match award! We are propper competing. Bring on the other top 3 we are ready! COYG!

  13. I wished that torreira chance fell to our strikers.

    Draw was a fair result.

I see character and togetherness in this team. We have got 8pts this season from conceding first. You just feel we will equalise in games in concede.

    Let’s keep building…

Emery is doing his best. Give him time!

  14. Torreira and xhaka were brilliant today. We look like a team with so much confidence, its crazy what a new manager can do.

  15. It should have been 1-0 at full time, in favor of Arsenal.
But I’m happy nonetheless. He who laughs last laughs best.
Where are the doom and thrashing predictors now?
    COYG#
With the possession statistics and the result, it’s been cleared that Arsenal is a top top team.
But we are still on the progression.
    Unbeaten still intact.
    COYG

  16. Well there you go .. Salah, mane and Firmihno will have a field against our poor defence blah blah blah …we are progressing well … Mikhi is a worry .. not too sure what he is good at .. at his age I don’t think he will improve.. but other than that the boys did very well … happy with the effort !!

    1. Miki is indeed a worry. He used to be nimble footed and could hit target from incredibly difficult angles as well as possessing a bullet shot.
Doesn’t have much resale value although we could trade him back to Dortmund for the American wonder kid, Christain Pulisic.

  17. Great game by the team. Don’t care about the naysayers. Love I all my fellow Arsenal fans and the unity on this site.

  18. Xhaka were did you come from today?
    Iwobi measuring up.
We are close to having a team.
Man U I pity you people.
We are not struggling this season though a bad start. Chelsea were lucky to come earlier.

  19. Proud of Emery and the boys today, especially LACA for rescuing a point from
a very precarious position. The team desperately needed someone to step up
    and the Frenchmen delivered.

Yes Arsenal were a little fortunate to concede just one goal, but overall there
collective play was outstanding and Emery’s boys were the better team for large
portions of the game. Take a few chances and the scoreline may have been a little
    different. lol

I agree with Kev that the Boss needs to find a way to play both LACA and AUBA up
front, its obvious Batman’s goal scoring prowess is being senselessly wasted on the
wings and LACA is to good to be a part time player.

Would of loved a W but overall very happy with the teams performance and continued
progress under Emery. Happy B day coach.

  20. It was a great game. Only talking about the performance we have come such a long way in a short amount of time. This looked like a team that actually had belief and had a purpose on the pitch. We are far more direct in our play and I think that is catching so many times off guard. Xhaka-Torreira partnership is here to stay and bossed it today. Holding was magnificent, and Lacazette was a work horse stitching together our front line once more. Ozil also put in a good game and helped us dominate possession and control play. I’m very pleased to see him get stuck in a tough game for the full 90. Keep it coming! Only negative it us losing our head defensively sometimes. I really think it comes down to personnel. Sometimes our reaction time is just too slow. Anyways, ee may drop out top 4 today, but we are in it this season. COYG!

  21. Van djik was being a dijk to us… but we too had someone HOLDING his own! Best defender on the field today GO ROB!

    1. completely agree. The lad has shown why we loaned out Chambers and kept him. BTW Chambers should be offered to Fulham on a permanent deal in January.

  22. Funny how things change from week to week… devastated at conceding that late penalty last week… to loving scoring a late goal this week & taking 2 points off those tw*ts

  23. Excellent performance, proud of the boys.. proved most people wrong! Torreira is a warrior ? bloody love Unai Emery ??? come on wolves ?

      1. I sure am Sue ? obviously I’d preferred we’d won but we were outstanding so I’m not gonna complain one bit, I seen enough today that we have a top top manager with an insane amount of passion.. the future is bright again.. let’s hope wolves make our weekend better and bring on Sporting COYG ?

          1. Haha me too.. ? just imagine how good we’ll be after a few transfer windows Sue ? even Rio Ferdinand is praising us and he almost smiled that’s saying something ? Spuds 2-0 up grrrrrrrr ?

            1. Gary Lineker praised us too ??would love to hear what Merson has to say!! We’ll take some stopping that’s for sure!!!
I saw that… bloody Lamela ☹ come on Wolves!
On to Thursday John… surely that’ll be a win ??

              1. You know you played well when walkers crisps is praising you ? I said all week Unai Emery is more than a match for Klopp ? love how vocal and passionate he is ? we aren’t used to having a manager so active ? hopefully Sue or they’ll leapfrog us ? oh Surely Sue it’s a giving ? ? ?

                1. I’d better watch MOTD to hear Shearer & Murphy praise us… they might even show Emery’s heat map again… I swear he walks miles over those 90 minutes!! Even if they do leapfrog us it won’t be for long John ??

                  1. Haha motd is banned from my house Sue so I’ll just read what they say I literally cannot stand Murphy or Shearer and now Merson ? Wolves are back in it an equaliser could yet happen ???

                    1. I don’t like them either, but Murphy did praise us – bet it broke his heart ? I nearly passed out ? No Shearer, it was Wrighty & he loved it ??

  24. I’m happy a lot of y’all now seeing it : We have only one Winger and he has a weakness of going to zero if started from the right – therefore Auba has got to sit for Iwobi to start on the left
If he’d started we would have been the one thrashing the Pools
In another thought since Auba is sort-of playing like a decoy striker when we use him on the Wings, put him on the right and let Iwobi play from the left where he’s comfortable
As long as the Winger is opening them up, Auba will score – even if play from the right

  25. Then unto Xhaka-Torreira REALLY!!!
U guys have allowed hatred cloud ur judgement
I’ve send it since, they have arguably the best partnership in the league
This is not the first match they played so seamlessly
But most pple just noticing today cos it was against Liverpool
Guendouzi is flashy in the midfield but Xhaka-Torreira play like Twins – very huge understanding btw them and it has been exactly like this for more than 6 weeks

    1. You’re definitely right, it actually occurred to me that people took notice cos it was against Liverpool cos for me personally, I believe what xhaka played today isn’t so different from what he usually does, apart from that tackle on salah in the 1st half, xhaka played what he’s been playing in the past weeks
And you’re right on guendouzi, he’s flashy and actually has ability to pick out passes bit xhaka can too, who remembers the one he fed to kolasinac towards the edge of pool box from deep in our half, I was wondering who he passed the ball to until I saw kolasinac control the ball

  26. Gotanidea, enough with the vituperation. I was amazed with our players today, we played with real intent and confidence that a win would have been well deserved but the draw isn’t bad. COYG. And to Paul merson I only need to say that TALK IS CHEAP.

  27. Emery has instilled a never give up attitude which was absent during the latter part of the Wenger era. The Torreria ,Xhaka axis is becoming more and more effective and while the likes of Mik and Ozil were largely disappointing i could not fault their work rate..When our injuries clear up the competition for places will become more intense than it has been for years. We have a long way to go to resolve our defensive issues but under Emery we are heading in the right direction.Keep it going boys.

    1. Ozil didn’t play that bad to me. This was the first big game ozil performed, he gave some amazing passes

  28. What a game disappointed though shud have taken 3 points.we outplayed the so called title contenders. Love you emery

  29. I like this style of play from our new coach! I never seen a set-play from freekick or coner from Wenger before. I saw quite a few today which worked really well and we almost got a goal.

Well done to everyone. Keep playing hard!

  30. I said it that Emery selection will determine the outcome of the match, Though the team played very well, but the attack was not good enough, Mikhi should not be wearing Arsenal shirt, he offer nothing today, to slow and sluggish, Auba playing at wing is waste Emery should accept that, Leno gave Liverpool the goal, though he is impressive, Kolasinac is real poor today, I think Arsenal need a left back in January, a winger and a central half to pair holding, the guy is just too good, suit Emery tactics, I guess he is Tony Adams in the marking.
Overall Arsenal was good tonight, they should have won the match.

  31. I’m shocked, this arsenal is ready to throw punches till the end and yet that joke of an analyst called Paul merson said we will be put to the sword by pool… Well I say we put critics to shame and to the next game

      1. Hahahaha… Funny you john fox, but iwobi is scary this season plus klopp will think properly before trying to play us again. We really did give them one hell of a fight

  32. 1. New Arsenal do not roll over and feel sorry for themselves when they go down.
    2. Holding is becoming a top defender at the heart of AFC defence.
    3. Unai vs Klopp – tactically we have a better manager! Tactically maybe one of the top top managers in the league.
    4. Still alot of work to develop a squad (expected at this stage) but alot of positives from current set.

  33. Nice game from the lads today. Kudos to the coach and all parties involved. But Emery have been talking about players been brave enough to take risk. I think it is time for him also to take risk especially after this international break. He needs to find a way to best utilies the trio of Lacaset, Abumeyang and Ozil without breaking the balance of the team. And hopefully by January a winger for both Eleney and Ramesy

  34. I feel so high tonight , that I CAN HARDLY DESCRIBE IT. I THOUGHT THIS WAS OUR BEST PERF THIS SEASON BY FAR. All thr ones I don’t usually rate much came through. Bellerin , Mustafi and especially Xhaka who had his best game ever in our shirt. I could not believe it was Xhaka I was watching. ALL PLAYED REALLY WELL APART FROM KOLAS WHO WAS A BIT RUSTY AT TIMES BUT KEPT GOING WELL. Salah was hardly in the game EVEN SO. A great shame that Leno made two clear mistakes , one for the goal and one in first half when Pool hit the post as he was grasping at thin air. But he still looks class in my book. What tonight showed us clearly was that we are FAR further ahead than some of us thought; certainly me anyway. Don’t you all feel that we have a real puppet MASTER in charge , clearly pulling the most willing of strings? To me the change from is beyond my wildest dreams. Champagne moment in our house tonight last season. INDIVIDUALLY I would not argue TOO MUCH with Torreira chosen as MotM, but I would have voted for Xhaka, incredibly with BELLERIN MUSTAFI, HOLDING and TORREIRA close behind. VIRTUALLY ALL OUR PLAYERS WERE TERRIFIC. For the first time oin many years past I think our team spirit is real and powerful. And I am STILL a realist!

      1. Sue, I think I can get used to liking that feeling. And will have too! We were playing a top quality ooponent today and were unlucky not to win. Spurs arechanging on to a 3-2 lead with 3 minutes to go as I write. Come on Wolves!!

        1. Agree with you Jon about our performance. What a job Unai has done in short space of time. Love his enthusiasm, his passion and his tactical nous. If I was in charge I’d give him a contract extension now. no messing about, two year extension immediately. This guy is the real deal, back him to the hilt.

    1. Speaking of team spirits, during that time we were winning our games but drawing the first half, there was a time here I mentioned that there is a positive in conceding first and that is the players wouldn’t get accustomed to winning easily and not learn how to fight back from a losing position in case we concede first in a big match, and that’s exactly what happened today. Immediately after we conceded, mustafi and holding were gearing the players up to get up and fight, that’s the new arsenal COYG

  35. Although I’m really happy with the one point and our overall performance tonight, someone must say that Mane’s goal should have stood. That may have provoked the right attitude towards Liverpool we saw after the 1-0, which was apparently Leno’s fault. But 1-1 is a good result following the circumstances.. More to come for sure!

    1. Letter of the law sure, but I still disagree that mane did influence play when Mustafi energy was focused on him then checking where Firminho was. In my eye that’s influencing the play from an offside position.

      The law needs to changed.

      1. That’s something I hadn’t thought of till now. Despite that, I think that the linesman falsely thought that it was all one play, when it was two plays and by the second one Mane is behind Firmino when he shoots so he ain’t offside.

        1. Agree with Tom, ArsenalGR, Mane influenced play. Mind you ArsenalGR I come from the old days where if there was one player between you and the goal, you we’re offside , didn’t matter where you we’re on the pitch. Very difficult for forwards in those days, if defenders pushed up to the half way line, forwards had to go with them, believe me, hard work, I was a player.

          1. Haha I come from those days too! Well apparently this rule needs to be more thought of, cause in other similar cases it hasn’t been called offside. I mean, had Firmino scored it would have counted, although Mane interfered the play by making Mustafi play the offside trap. So I think that as soon as the linesman allows Firmino to shoot, although Mane is already offside, he has no right to call Mane offside after Firmino shoots the ball.

  36. From the today game i can tell that we belong in the cl while Liverpool will in my opinion end up in the 3rd place.

We played well but we lack some players who are more suited on the wings. A winger like Lazano would do wonders at Arsenal or Zaha. rlly, he is doing very well.

Abuama being played in the second part of the game is more deadly as him being used as a winger. He is being wasted there, and Arsenal should play him on the wings only against weaker sides.

Ramsey needs to see the door fast, and i am srry but its a pity that we could not get Martial instead of Miki.

Xhaka Toerreira partnership is very fine. I am lucky with the todays result. It was a good game for those into football.

  37. Wow, now this is how a team is expected to play(although still work in progress). Arsenal is giving me some feelings I have never had before. So much love the fighting spirit, agility, bravery, cohesion…….. Paul Merson, where are you at?

  38. I’m happy with the result.

We have improved quite a bit since the City and Chelsea matches

We still have room to improve

    Top 4 is possible
If Wenger was here it wouldn’t be, because he wouldn’t have got Torreira and Guendouzi and would have chosen poor line-up and late substitutions

  39. The best we have played all season. The least unforced errors in a match this season. The 11 players on the pitch for Arsenal played as a TEAM.

Leno:Calm, composed and unfazed. good distribution and good reflexes, could have done better with the Mane cross but pushed the team on with his confidence.

Bellerin: Good game, great stamina. caught out for the goal but was immense in both defence and attack and kept both Robertson and Mane honest.

Holding: My man of the match. Our very own Sol Campbell + Tony Adams rolled into one. decisive and calm. you’d think he was a 26 year old Italian defender. Koscielny should be very worried.
Mustafi: one of his best games, although he has vastly improved this season. Could have done better for the goal.

Kolasinac: Credit where credit is due. Great performance from someone playing his first match after a long injury layoff. Klopp and Salah must have thought they’d tear him a new one! gassed out at the end expectedly.

Miki: Although disappointing in attack was immense in closing down as he tracked back and made life difficult for both Mane and Robertson.

Ozil: Captain for the day. Wasn’t spectacular individually, but kept the team ticking and was also immense in the closing down department as well as the pass completed ratio.

Torriera: Our pint sized bulldozer. Showed some Cazorla-like balance, ball control and distribution from deep. a Shame he couldn’t place his shot on either side of Allison. Very tenacious and could easily be my man of the match.

Xhaka: One of his best games. very matured display and showed very good tactical awareness together with his midfield partner, Torriera. Seems to keep re-inventing himself.

Aubameyang: Put in a good shift tracking back and closing down. Missed an early chance but ultimately tired out in the end as he became ineffectual.

Lacazette: Another player who really belies his stature when he faces opponents. very good as he defended from the front. Good shift, bad miss, incredible goal.

Iwobi: Good 15mins which included a brilliant through ball to Lacazette for our goal. Should really have come on earlier as he showed us what we had been missing with his pace and trickery.

Wellbeck: Didn’t do much, much except fluff a good chance to score by handling in the six yard box while attempting to control the ball. Most of his dribbles didn’t come off save for one with which he was able to cross. One wonders how good he could have been if not for his occasional clumsiness.

Ramsey: The enigma. kept it simple and didn’t do his usual striker impersonation.

  40. We cannot be ruled out this time. Our Asernal is real. The manager is not just zipping and zipping but reading the game real time. Thumbs up

    1. You cant help but marvel at the way Arsenal plays football…Unai has stuck to the Arsenal style but has brought in more grit, tenacity and above all, the much needed self belief amongst the players.Once again it is pure joy to watch Arsenal…Unai should bring in a natural dribbling winger to compliment Iwobi’s efforts

  41. Ozil with his occasional flicks, he’s on form and should influence the game more. Leno with those pinpoint saves and good in 1-on-1 situations, absolutely loved it…can’t see Cech displacing him from 1st 11. One or two signings like Liverpool did by bringing VVD and we are the team to beat next season. Credit to Unai Emery, keep doing what you doing and also playing from the touchline as a no 12. Paul Merson eat your words.

  42. Let’s not get carried away guys,Mustafi “lost” Van Dyke twice but fortunately for us he failed to capitalise. However Xhaka and Holding really impressed me and the work rate of all the players has stepped up under Emery. To take us to the next level we need upgrades at full back and centre back but hey,we are making real progress with Emery at the helm.

  43. I think we already have a big physical bruiser of a CB in mavropanos! the kid’s been injured but with him and holding we do have agile big, tall, physical bash-brothers!!
