Arsenal v Newcastle – What do the experts predict?

I have done a quick bit of research on what the analysts and pundits are predicting for the Monday night game against Newcastle and the overwhelming view is that we will win and for the most part, fairly comfortably.

Of course, these are just opinions but in most cases, they have backed up their predictions with analysis and/or statistics, so in all fairness, they have put the effort in.

But regardless of what any of us think about some of these predictions, it is interesting to see sort of consensus is out there.

Sky Sports (Paul Merson) Arsenal 3-1

Chronicle Live (Newcastle media) Under 10 corners

Evening Standard Arsenal 3-1

Bwin blog Arsenal 3-1

SportingLife Arsenal 3-0

SportsMole (Blog) Arsenal 2-0

FootyRoom (Stats and facts) Arsenal 3-1

GoonersGuide Arsenal (Betting site) 2-0

BBC (Mark Lawrenson) Arsenal 2-0

Sporticos Arsenal 2-1

That is ten predictions and the breakdown of opinions is that four go with a 3-1 win, three go with a 2-0 win, one each for 2-1 and 3-0 and of course, the Newcastle press website bottles it and goes for under 10 corners.

What I noticed is that 70% predict we will win by exactly two goals which may be an interesting little bet to consider.

90% predict an Arsenal win by a specific score and even in the Chronicle article, they concede that we will win but do not predict a score and make the under 10 corners their prediction, which means, it is actually 100% picking an outright win.

Cannot say I disagree.

  1. Spurs lose and we have a chance to go third with our game in hand on Monday. If I’ve learnt anything over the years as an Arsenal fan this automatically means we’ll slip up and hand back the initiative ?

      1. i say let’s bring back St Totteringham’s day, no slip ups, i really want 3rd now!!!

i say 3-1 to us with matteo scoring for us, the kid deserves a goal 🙂

    1. Win is compulsory since the next match is going to be much tougher due to the Goodison Park factor

    2. slip up..? that ain’t gonna happen – its a NEW DAY

On UE’s watch If a player shows no character or fight, then they’ll not get into the team.

    3. You are right.Arsenal as a team does opposite of what’s expected when under pressure.I’m not sure if we will win tomorrow night.

      1. be positive BM we will beat rafa and make him consider that job offer from china 🙂

    4. after having a good laugh at the erstwhile N 17 swamp mutants (is fly catcher Kane gonna count that own hoal for himself I wonder ) Im defo relaxed but not over confident. Reckon on a 2 -1 win with both goals coming from Auba .

  2. To sit at the fourth position at the end of this season, Arsenal need to win all remaining home games and at least three of the five away games

I believe the players know they cannot mess up in any home match and hopefully they wouldn’t get nervous because of the pressure

Newcastle should be an easy challenge, but Arsenal have to be careful of Rondon’s runs and Joselu’s aerial ability. Arsenal are usually not convincing in handling towering opponents and we don’t have Giroud to break the bus with his headers as well

  3. I would rather we win the Europa league than finish fourth,we have won many fourth place trophies before. But winning Europa counts as a European trophy that we never won before it is greater than even finishing second leave alone third. We are in it I really want us to win the Europa league because I am not optimistic we can win the title even in a decade comparing the financial muscle of our rivals,Champions league we would be in it to collect some money but winning it not likely at all

    1. Earnings from finishing 2nd or 3rd or even 4th in the league dwarfs prize money from the 2nd rate Europa league competition… So rest assured the club will always prioritize league position over Europa success.

    2. 1970 v Anderlecht when we won 3- 0 in the 2nd leg after a 1st leg defeat . Is the equivalent to winning the Europa cup.
So yeah I’d like to see us win it again.
However that won’t be easy .
We’re going to have to do well in the premier league tpo. The boring view is the right one i.e. take each game as it comes.
As long as we dont get over confident and we concentrate tactically we’re going to be alright.

  4. Let’s assume Spurs will now go and win everything game apart from against City – 95% of their remaining games is at home. The new stadium and settling in and dealing with their nerve will be a big factor But I think Poch will get them to embrace it and use it as an audience for next season…79pts final tally

Man U to have a couple of tough games but let’s assume they loss to City only and let’s put the Chelsea game to one side for the moment. 76pts tally

Chelsea again to loss to liverpool and with some tough games coming but let’s assume they win everything else But again putting the United game to one side. 75pts tally.

So if arsenal finish the season with WDDWDWWW they end on 78pts final tally and that might not be enough because when Man U play Chelsea the winner takes the final spot but a draw benefits us.

So in order for arsenal to finish in the top 4 and better yet…top 3 with 80pts they need to convert one of the draws into a win.

    Everton away
    Watford away
    Wolves away
We dont need to win them all. Draw 2 and win 1 (whilst winning the rest as anticipated

Sharpen your pencils,l its gona be a ride

    1. I know man our away record will be our undoing. I don’t and never expect easy games especially away, but if we are to hang out with the big boys we got to fix that away record.

      1. Agree. We need to work out what exactly the problem is. Saying that, away from home we have lost to City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Saints and West Ham…and so…

City and liverpool we can accept we are not on that level yet.

Chelsea we should of at least of drawn.

Saints we got it to 1-2 and lost the battle

West ham we just didn’t turn up after the international break.

Small margins. Against saints go 1-3 and kill their ambitions. Finish the chances against Chelsea and we get something out of the game….

So 4pts there and a game in hand tomorrow and things look more comfortable. But it’s just not arsenal to make it simple in these last few years.

        1. No more negative waves maan.

      2. This is the business end of the season. I am sure the players and coach know this. They will work harder, at the end of the day, this away factor may not influence us much.

  5. Am so glad the league is back on, the international break is such a nuisance! I wonder how I will survive when the season comes to an end in the next few weeks. Anyway, with Bottlers FC stumbling today we must take advantage and get in there in the top 3. Am scared of our away record like everyone else but I feel we can get top 4.

  7. To this John fox who keeps basically calling people stupid how stupid is it to back your own team too lose and be proud of it saying I always win by other supporters blind faith in there team no you don’t always win that’s for sure in my opinion your a disgrace backing against your own team and have no right to keep picking on people who you think you are superior too because your not in fact your the one who is inferior that’s why you talk like you do what rubbish you going too day about that with your sarcasm

    1. How sad your empty bitterness and railing against the truth actually us. Firstly I do NOT” keep calling people stupid” as you spitefully allege. Secondly, as you are too arrogant to take well meant advice from someone who thporoughly understands betting and what and what not to bet on , you will carry on being ignorant of that subject. Which, I imagine, is just what you want and why you will stay ignorant.
