Arsenal v Southampton match preview and predicted score

Arsenal simply has to win this match today, nothing else is acceptable.

This is a huge game for Unai Emery, he must surely know that defeat is unthinkable, in fact, a draw would be unacceptable.

After six winless games, we have here a match that we should be collecting all three points from. We are not talking high calibre opposition in scintillating form.

Most of our players are fresh following the international break with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette, Hector Bellerin, and Kieran Tierney all being rested.

The recent performances have not been good that is for sure. We are barely getting a shot on target, creating almost nothing and doing our usual head drop once it goes wrong. That must change today.

However, we havenโ€™t lost a league game at home this season and I doubt very much that Southampton will become the first team to beat us at the Emirates.

Southampton do OK on the road but they are in the relegation zone for a reason, they are not very good. They do pose a danger, of course they do and so complacency cannot be allowed to set in.

A lot will depend on what formation Emery employs, I am not too bothered about team selection because I feel whatever team he puts out will be good enough to win. But if players are played out of position and the formation is wrong then disaster could happen.

And that is the huge worry with Emery, he has a history of wrong formations and playing players out of position. Hopefully, he has learned his lesson.

Providing Emery does the very basics of his job and the players do theirs then Arsenal will win and win comfortably.

Arsenal 3-1 Southampton

  1. I’ve given up trying to predict an Arsenal score! ๐Ÿ˜€

Be nice if the Hammers put a shift in… if they lose, won’t be looking good for Pellegrini!

    1. Sue, just now, a West Ham player had has arm pulled by Kane and it was a clear foul BY Kane, yet Michael Oliver idiotically booked the West Ham player. Makes you want to weep!

  2. Sad but I half hope we play our usual rubbish just to get rid of Unai Emery. He has been with us nearly one and a half seasons and we are undoubtedly WORSE. We are not an Unai Emery charity, pity club, we are Arsenal. Don’t all the jobsworthy, non true, Arsenal employees get that. We are used to fantastic football. It’s time to act. The Spuds did.

    1. Sean, Apart from during the actual game itself , when my heart will overcome my head, I totally agree with you. Any win that keeps Emery longer than he otherwise would stay is bad news and harms us.

    2. That’s a terrible attitude

I would NEVER wish us to lose

I hope we win every match. We obviously won’t but I never wish ill on the club I love

  3. If Emery does the right tactics, makes right decision, plays players in proper positions, but still couldn’t get a win tonight, I would support him. I neither blindly support a coach, nor blindly bash one.

But if he does his usual things, bad formations, bad subs, and bad tactics overall, and gets a win somehow, I would wish him out even then. That has always been my stance.

But, I’m not hopeful of good tactical wins. Individual brilliance is how we can turn the current situation around. Let’s hope we see some inspired efforts from the players today.
