Arsenal v Spurs – More than just a game!

So the day has finally arrived. Arsenal, unbeaten since the first game of the season, host Tottenham, who haven’t lost any game at all in the League. The immovable object faces the unstoppable force…

We all know how important this game is to the team, the season, and most of all the supporters, that’s us by the way. Even Mesut Ozil, who comes from Germany and probably didn’t know of our great rivalry with Spurs until he moved to London a couple of years ago, knows how important today’s match is…

“Of course as a player you feel it some days before the game – you feel the passion, you see the fans and you read in the newspaper that the derby is beginning,” Ozil said on Arsenal.com. “All the fans want something special, so our job on the pitch is to win the game, to take the three points against Tottenham.

“It would be huge for us to take the three points against them.”

Huge! That is the word. But it would also be a disaster if we lose! Arsene Wenger tried to be more reasonable when he was asked about the game. “It is an interesting clash.” He said. “For us it is a very important game because we are in a strong position in the league that we want to strengthen. Overall Tottenham [are in a good position] as well, so it is very tight at the top of the league. We are more focused that it is a home game, and whether it is Tottenham or somebody else, we want to win our home games because our position in the league is very important. We go into a period where we play big games and we want to win the big games.”

Arsenal, for some reason, generally do well against our biggest rivals, like finishing above the every single season since Arsene Wenger became our manager, and Le Prof was asked if we had a mental advantage over the Spuds. “I don’t know, you should ask them that.” he said. “We try to do as well as we can. At the moment I’m more focused on the fact that this is more than a derby. It’s an important game for us because it’s a big home game and we have an opportunity to show that we have an interesting role to play in this Premier League, and that we can win these kinds of games too.”

More than a derby… More than a game…. Let’s be huge, let’s get the three points…. Let’s go to the top of the League!

  1. This is where we start to find out if this team has the mental strength to win or at least seriously challenge for the top spot right to the end of the season.

Last season we had a lot of chances to get ahead of our closest rivals, and playing against lesser teams than tottenham. Generally we bottled it. Lets hope this season is different.

  2. 5:30 am here in Jersey. Have not slept yet.. n I hope I don’t soon. Can’t miss this game!!
