Arsenal v Tottenham – A massive game for both sides

The North London derby is always an emotional meeting for Arsenal and Tottenham fans, and tonights League Cup game is becoming even more important than usual as the Gunners have to break a losing run. The Arsenal legend David Seaman has summer up how important it is: “Arsenal’s start has been okay, but it’s not been as good as what they hoped for I’m sure,” Seaman said.

“They have not had a great start, then they had a few good wins but they are going into this game off two defeats, and they don’t want to go into their next Premier League game after three defeats.

“So [it] makes it a little bit more important for Arsenal to win in that aspect. It’s a massive game for the players and even bigger for the fans, the bragging rights are obviously dictated by who wins.

“It will be a good game, and will be interesting to see what sort of side both teams put out because they will definitely put some not regular first teamers in there.

“It is important both put decent sides out there because if Tottenham put a full strength team out and Arsenal put a youth team out it’s not a good challenge. It’s about getting the mixture right.”

I think both sides will have relatively strong teams as Wenger has already said that he won’t be playing youngsters. Mauricio Pochettino also wants to go to Wembley and win this Cup after being beaten in the Final last year. He said: “It’s an important game and last season it was important to win this game. The derby. For the players, for the belief in the philosophy, it’s a very important game.

“It’s more than only go to the next round of the Capital One Cup, or three points in the league, it has a massive effect.”

So it’s building up to a classic game tonight. I’m sure Wenger will have the boys fired up for this one.

Come on you Gunners!!!!

  1. After seeing the squads that other PL teams have been playing last night, i dont think Wenger will rest too many players regular players in this game…Hopefully we get a good result and are able to sub key players so they dont have to play the full 90mins…esp with Leicester playing yday, as they will have the extra day rest for the wknd game.

    1. They rested their key players,
but brought them on in the later stages,
Their game with west ham went to extra time,
as long as we avoid extra time, we should be ok.

  2. Our boys really need to turn up for this. Losing is not an option.

I wouldn’t be so disappointed with a draw so we have a return leg with the current circumstances (back to back loses; injuries to players like Coq; misfiring of our front line; etc). Having said this Spurs is not in the best of forms too so a win would be huge boost for both teams.

I am expecting a similar team to the one that started in the UCL, the selected players need to justify the coach’s faith in them and why they are representing us.

Funny feeling this one, going into this derby with less resentment for Spurs, guess Chelsea has really taken all the hate I have. I will go say hi to worst enemy today.

    – I dislike Spurs because I am an Arsenal fan

  3. Wenger should lock Giroud and theo in a room and force them to watch Lewi’s performance against wolfsburg.
Wolfsburg were completely dominating Bayern until Robert scored every chance that was created for him. I still can’t believe Bayern got him for zero dollars.

    1. Whats the point in that? ?
      It won’t make any difference!

Wenger should have offered 50mil for the player in the last transfer window and then Giroud and Walcott could have watched him from the bench ??

        1. Hahaha.. Don’t worry,
AW will probably lock himself in a room come January!
As he will busy 24/7 … trying to do it…
“Wen it izz a dizadvantage to zign dee top top players,
          Inn January”

  4. Afrer the transfer window shut,I commented here that it wont be long before we go back to seeing the woeful Arteta – Flamini midfield partnership, and true to my words it is finally going to happen tonight, and we are going to lose this game for that reason. #wengerout

    1. I hear you.

We could have gone after Kondogbia, Schneiderlin, Krychowiak

But I guess they weren’t going to improve the team or weren’t as good quality as Flamini and Arteta in Wenger’s mind.

  5. Guys I know the game is done and dusted but I’m still pissed off cause I feel like we were robbed … we got two red cards both which have been lifted and Costa got a 3 game ban but that does not change the fact that Chelsea got the 3 points which we should have got had it not been for poor refereeing … I just had to cent that out

  6. Tottenham not in form so far but they still got Ericksen, Chadli and Kane we have to worry about. Heung Min Son looks pretty good so far too and this will not be an easy game. With LeCoq injured i can’t help but feel a little worried but hopefully we end the game with a win! COYG!

  7. This is a must win for the gooners tonight! Losing to chelsea still hurts then our humiliating defeat in our 1st game in the champions league, to going out of the league cup to no other than the spuds in the space of a week. Dont want to know what that will be like if it happens so Wenger all the big boys on this evening and nothing but a win will do…. and bragging rights ofcourse for the 1st London Derby of the season. COYG

  8. A win is needed.

The guys should see the movie 300 before going in.

    Vietnam.

    David and Goliath.

The late great Vince Lombardi said: if you go into the field thinking you might lose…you have already lost. The other part of that is…any human being that sets his mind to win is capable of doing it.

    Rubin Kazan.
