Arsenal v Watford Preview, Line-up and Score prediction – Do Hornets hold a sting?

Arsenal welcome Watford to the Emirates Stadium this weekend which could well prove a big result for either side in their push for a place in Europe next season.

The Hornets are this term’s surprise package, picking up wins against Tottenham, while keeping the pace with the top of the table with four wins and a draw from their six league outings.

They do find themselves coming into the match on the back of back-to-back defeats however, after losing to Man United last week in the division, before succumbing to Tottenham Hotspur on penalties only yesterday respectably.

We come into the game in top form however, with six wins in all competitions since our opening losses to Chelsea and Man City at the beginning of the season, and will be challenging for the title should they be able to maintain that form until May, which will of course be a big challenge for any side.

Our current worries come from our defence, with Sokratis having joined the likes of Sead Kolasinac, Laurent Koscielny and Carl Jenkinson currently struggling to be fit. Sead may well be ready to return, but Holding may well have to step-up and partner Mustafi in the centre.

We have little to worry about in other areas of the field however, and we should be able to continue our run of wins, but I don’t expect to have the whole match go our way.

Predicted XI:

Cech
Bellerin  Mustafi  Holding  Monreal
Ramsey  Xhaka  Torreira
Ozil  Lacazette  Aubameyang

Our midfield and attack should have had adequate rest in midweek and be fighting fit for the encounter, and I expect goals. I’ll be going for a 3-1 win with Laca to continue his fine form with another goal.

Does Monreal need a rest when Sead is available? Is Holding ready to step-up if Sokratis is unavailable? Should Mkhitaryan be starting here?

Honestly, this match is a worry for me. Watford is playing well. However, Deeny is a question as to whether he’ll play. But Deloufeu is also pacy and troublesome for us. If they both play I can see them scoring some goals, plus they’ll be hungry after 2 defeats. That said, Arsenal will want some revenge from last seasons “stolen” game from them and the comments made by Deeny afterwards. I see Laca continuing in form and netting 1. Auba as well. If we can tighten up defensively I see a 2-1 win. Maybe a draw 1-1. But I don’t see a loss.

Honestly, I’m praying for a perfect September. When was the last time we won all our matches within a month. It’s like centuries ago. COYG.

We still have a defensive problem and I can see this repeating itself throughout the season with niggling ankle and knee injuries that don`t repair. I guess it`s the style of football today with sliding tackles etc. To me the players seem too skinny to take the knocks we need the Patrick Veiera kind.

Because Arsenal will play at home, I predict Emery would use similar 4-2-3-1 line-up again:

    ………………………Cech
    Bellerin . Mustafi . Holding . Monreal
    ………….Torreira ……. Xhaka
    Ozil …………..Ramsey …………..Aubameyang
    ………………….Lacazette

Mkhitaryan and Iwobi deserve to start, but I don’t think they would get their chance in the Watford match

A tough match against Watford is the perfect opportunity for Ozil to do another disappearing act. Emery going to learn you can’t rely on him.

    …………………cech…………….
    bell…….mus……….sok…….Mon
    ………torr………………….xha…..
    mkhir…………ozil…………auba…
    …………………laca……………..
Ramsey cannot be a starter until he sign that deal and also mkhir is better than ram or ozil currently.

Arsenal has now apparently taken the contract offer to Aaron Ramsey off the table. He should now be consigned to the reserves and left no where near the first team or bench.
Hopefully Ramsey can be sold in January, although it looks like he is aiming to leave on a free transfer. So much for Arsenal standing by him during his time spent in rehabilitation.
Arsenal and Unai Emery should now invest time and effort into players who want to play for the club.
My selected team against Watford would be:
    Cech
    Lichtsteiner Holding Socrates Monreal
    Torreira Xhaka
    Ozil
    Aubameyang Lacazette Welbeck

Not sure how much we’d get for him (😆) but we should sell him in January! Maybe he wants to go to Italy with Ivan!

I hope we start faster than we did against Everton… it’ll be a good game. Laca’s on fire…. bring it on COYG

QD-I am hearing it was the Club that eventually withdrew the Contract Offer. This could only mean the players demands were too much and for that I applaud the Clubs management team for refusing to bow down to player/agent power.Lets have a team full of players who want to play for the Club and not the wages.Arsenal Football Club have proved they will pay top money to players who come to the Club so we will not have a problem replacing him I’m sure.He is not a good enough player to believe he can extort the wages Sanchez and Ozil were demanding so good lick to him getting what he can out of Everton and West Ham or a very low ranked European Club who will take him.

            1. ozziegunner

QD that is why he should be playing in the reserves, to remove him from the “shop window”. If he gets injured again, Ramsey’s negotiating power will be greatly reduced.
I look forward to him battling for a lower level club or sitting on the bench for any decent club. Ramsey has a over inflated opinion of both his ability and injury plagued career at the Arsenal.

Phil , We are of one mind on Ramsey(and much else too). You may wish to see my reply to you on the previous thread.

I only hope Socratis is fit enough to team up with Holding at centre back at the expense of you know who. With Mustafi in the side i cannot see us keeping a clean sheet against a Watford team on a high.

I barely can’t remember when last an arsenal player won the player in the month award alongside the best manager of the month award, maybe Alexis was the last to achieve that feat.go gunner, gimme a perfect September to wrap up my birth month.I love arsenal more than you

Our midfield will get dominated as usual with Ozil, Ramsey, Xhaka. Emery needs to start with Guendouzi, Torreira and MKitaryan in midfield then Iwobi, Lacazette and Aubameyang upfront. All are fighters and are the better options we currently have. Ofcourse Lichtsteiner for Bellerin and Mavropanos for Mustafi (if sokratis is injured) any day and night of the week. 4-3-3 formation for now.

    Cech
    Lichtsteiner….Mustafi…….Mavropanos…….Monreal
    Mkitaryan……Guendouzi……Torreira
    Iwobi……..Lacazette……..Aubameyang
