Arsenal clung to a one-goal lead to beat Newcastle at the Emirates today, and the manager insists that his side should have scored more goals. The Magpies lost 1-0 today after the long trip south to London, and it looked fearfully like they were going to level up the scores in the latter moments of the match, but thankfully we clung on to win.
Manager Arsene Wenger insists that while we did deserve to walk away with all three points, we need to be taking our chances better.
Wenger said: “We have created the chances to be comfortable and in the last five minutes we became a bit edgy.
“We didn’t make a mistake at the back, you could see that necessity to win was playing a bit on the mind of our players in the end and the fact as well that we could not take our chances, you try to force it too much and to not play with enough freedom.
“[The goal] was a gem to watch. I’m happy for Mesut because that’s what you want from him and he took it with decisiveness. It was a fantastic goal.”
Our forwards need to be doing better in front of goal, and Alexis Sanchez especially is one who should be scoring more from the positions he is finding himself in.
There is sections who are calling for the Chilean to be dropped from the starting XI, but you could argue that another player may not be able to earn as many chances in front of goal.
There will no doubt be plenty of rotation over the busy festive period, and hopefully we will find our forwards rectifying their composure in front of goal.
Which player/s are holding us back? Could Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck be the answer to our problems?

So what he (Wenger) is saying then is that he needs to start earning his massive salary by coaching them so they have more cutting edge when they get on the pitch.

Usual Wenger claptrap. THE TWADDLE THIS MAN REGULARLY COMES OUT WITH IS A HUGE EMBARRASSMENT. He acts as if things happen quite independent of the fact he is SUPPOSED to be a coach with coaching skills. HE IS ALWAYS MAKING EXCUSES FOR THE FACT HE DOES NOT DO HIS JOB. Other managers of top clubs motivate their players; Wenger demotivates our team. What a sick joke of a “manager” he is!
Exactly Jon, everybody’s fault but he’s, Him and the other two stooges didn’t once get off the bench this afternoon to motivate, scream or advise anything to the players during a very low par performance against Newcastle. Benitez on the other hand has a very hard job with an extremely poor side but at least he was on the edge of technical area for the majority of the game trying to help he’s team
It is the manager that is holding Arsenal back. He bought, coaches and manages the players for more than a decade.
Let’s see what he would do in January to alleviate the situation. I predict they would get Turan to soften the Ozil’s and Sanchez’s departures.

Now that we are beginning to improve defensively,our forwards are turning lacklustre in front of goal. Until and unless we figure out a way to keep our defence and attack on their prime,we are not going to become serious title contentdors….

You play for Pep, or Barca or Real or Man U or Chelsea the players are expected to win every game against every opponent let alone Newcastle.
Somehow under Wenger, we have lost that believe we should win every game. If our players had a manager who expected them to win every game there would have been no special pressure to win against a poor Newcastle team yesterday.
Did anyone just see Utd’s second goal against West brom? It sums up this argument and its mainly down to arsenal players not having the bottle to shoot at goal.
After Lukaku held the ball up for Mata, Mata then carried it forward and laid it off to Lingard who took a couple of touches and shot at goal (and scored). Now there was an easy pass to a player to Lingard’s right. If that was an arsenal player, the pass to the right would have been accomplished rather than the shot at goal.
THAT is the difference between Utd and Arsenal.
