Arsenal win was great preparation ahead of Atletico clash

Arsenal now have to prepare to face Atletico Madrid on Thursday, and before yesterday’s game Wenger told us that his team selection and tactics were all done with Atletico in mind, but also to make sure we got the three points.

It was successful in all areas and Wenger was understandably pleased. “I was focused on winning the game,” Wenger told BBC Sport. “We just tried to be professional and do our job even when the circumstances are different. It was a good team spirit and good preparation for Thursday.

“I think we constructed patiently. We didn’t make big mistakes. First of all before winning a trophy, you need to get through the semi-finals. This is a good way to prepare – scoring goals against a strong West Ham team who have done well recently.

“I would like to thank everyone who has been very nice and kind and praised me more than I deserved it. I would like to say thank you everyone. It’s been a great period for me and I’m thankful for that.”

With our sixth win in a row at home, and scoring more than three goals in eaxch of them should give us great confidence for Thursday, so this in fact was the ideal preparation.

There were still many empty seats yesterday though but on Thursday we need every single one of our Twelth Men to fill the ground and make the atmosphere intimidating for the Atletico players. We need to beat them out of sight so we don’t need about worrying about our visit to Spain…

  1. TBH it wasn’t a great performance. A better team would have been beaten us yesterday. Defence is very weak and I think unless that improves Athletico will be just too strong

  2. I MISS ARSENAL OF 2008/2009
ATLEAST WE HAD GOOD SOCCER WITH
ARSHAVIN, NASRI, FAVREGAS N VAN PERSIE

    1. Goodness gracious me, don’t you ever have anything positive to say about the team???!!!
Why can’t you just go and support Spurs already. We don’t your kind of fans.
Forever whining and complaining. why don’t you go manage a team, and see if you can do better.

  3. Out again with the whining and complaints eh?? For some reason you ain’t no different from Konstantin.
He picks on Wenger every week,
you pick on the team every post, even when we win.
Yours is even worse than KM’s
No positive remarks ever comes from you concerning the team.
The team won, it’s gon, stand up and be positive for the Atletico game or switch to being a spud’s fan

      1. Dear Mr Hoyte,

Thank you for following all my posts and the feedback. Enclosed is a signed Vanpayslip picture as a token of my appreciation of your following of my body of work.

        Best Regards,

        R. Vanpayslip

PS: despite you thinking otherwise, Iwobi was still wack yesterday. In fact he was even wacker than usual. You really did pick the worst day to back him

  4. the weegor era is over at the end of the season, thank goodness and we won yesterday. Positives, we scored 4 goals, and a few others have to come back onto this team. negatives, our defense is still pure dung. it has to tighten up before Thursday.

  5. I was very pleased with Lacazette… He is got that killer instinct and it is only a matter of time before he starts banging them easily…Hoping that he continues his form against Atletico who are a better organized side defensively. Also, the new coach will have two world class strikers at his disposal and I would wish he plays them upfront together instead of pushing Auba to the wings..Exciting times to be a gooner

  6. Admin is correct on the point that all possible support is needed. Atletico will be very tough to beat.
Of course nothing has changed just by the fact that Wenger will be stopping. Maybe the players will get a bit of extra energy and motivation now, so we won’t see one the lacklustre performances, that have been a regular thing over the last few years. But we will still be tactically inept, untill a new manager can put his stamp on things.
Lets hope for the best and a full noisy stadium would help.

  7. I think it was a good tactic to play the players who will play on Thursday. Im surprised Wenger did it. He really wants to leave with a trophy behind him.

I still hope we don’t play Iwobi though. I’d prefer Nelson

    1. I hope Iwobi never plays in an Arsenal shirt again

  8. Yeah yeah we are entitled to our opinions, nobody on here has ever said Iwobi has been impressive this season but only few know what he’s capable of and that he needs proper upbringing under a good coach, so just stay mute and give the boy a chance under another coach next season. And stop letting your hatred blind you, This is the same way fans like you abused Giroud for many years, Good thing he never gave a fvck about what you and i thought… Same way Iwobi doesnt give a fvck about what you and i Think now.

    1. Off course he doesn’t care what anyone thinks. If he did then he wouldn’t be out partying before important games.

Anyway, that doesn’t change the fact that he is just plain mediocre. One good game a season seems to suggest more issues than just coaching.

But I do admire your blind faith in someone who can’t even kick the ball.

  9. We should be honest . We were shocking til we scored and looking as clueless as ever til the “out of his depth at this level IWOBI” was mercifully subbed. The last ten minutes put a misleading gloss on yet another display by at least seven sub par players who were unsuccessfully trying to live up the level of our only good enough players, Laca, Aub, Ramsey and Monreal, plus the absent sick, Ozil. Those five players represent our ONLY proven talent at the club. It is some sort of miracle that we are even as high as sixth. These five players are all either already 30 or nearing it. Perhaps the few wilfully blind fans can NOW see why he was sacked! Though I hear that Ty from Arsenal Fan TV, IS TOO UPSET TO SHOW HIS FACE IN PUBLIC. Still in mourning for his “hero.”
