Arsenal Women’s Katie McCabe is the latest player to open up about coping with Eidevall’s departure

Arsenal have been unbeaten since Jonas Eidevall’s departure, with wins over Valerenga, West Ham, a draw against Manchester United and an outstanding 5-0 win over high-flying Brighton last night, at the Emirates Stadium.

We discuss how amazing the Gunner women have been under interim manager Renee Slegers and how she has managed to extract the most out of the team, but unfortunately, to some extent, we’ve ignored the players’ efforts to be at their best.

For around three years, these Arsenal women had only known the Jonas Eidevall way: he signed some of them and helped others, such as Frida Maanum and Katie McCabe, find their mojo.

Katie McCabe, as quoted by Arseblog, has opened up about how difficult it has been for the team since the Swedish coach left. The Ireland “Girls in Green” captain admits the start to the season has been difficult, particularly after Eidevall’s departure. However, she goes on to say that the players have decided to stay together. She confesses that, while they are saddened by Eidevall’s departure, they fully support Renee Slegers and the Arsenal technical bench.

Arsenal’s women have looked better in the last three games, but she believes it is incorrect to argue that the coaching change has re-energized the team. She claims they are only building on the foundations laid by Eidevall. She said they are still working to resolve their goal-scoring issues and achieve consistency, while also thanking the supporters for their unwavering support.

She added, “That would be disrespectful to Jonas; we need to respect that situation, but for us, it was about focusing on those next two games after Jonas’ departure, and we did. Having the support of the fans really meant a lot to us. The long-away day to Manchester on a Sunday at 12.30, we really appreciate that. We can always hear them. We want to get back to scoring goals and performing well for them.

“It is important not to disrupt all the good things we have built up over the last three years; it is similar to the things we were doing under Jonas. We need to be more tidy in areas, especially in the final third.

“How can we become more fluid and create more goal scoring opportunities? We are a team that dominates the ball a lot, and we want to score more goals; we have the quality to do that. It is about sustaining that for longer periods during the game.”

From McCabe’s claims, I can’t help but be proud of how our Gunner women carried themselves through these moments. I can’t help but be positive that whoever takes over as their head coach will have an easier job with the wonderful squad that Edu and Jonas Eidevall put together..

Arsenal certainly found their shooting boots last night, when they faced 3rd placed Brighton, at Emirates Stadium – walking away with a 5-0 win over the seagulls!
