Arsenal’s Alex Lacazette likes post linking Gunners to January defensive target

Alexandre Lacazette has liked an Instagram post from Bleacher Report Football that shows Gunners target Layvin Kurzawa in an Arsenal shirt.

According to the Athletic (subscription required), the Gunners are in advanced talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the left-back’s signing. It’s claimed that we’re hoping to sign the France international on a free transfer this month.

Mikel Arteta should be desperate for some defensive reinforcements this month considering our injury troubles at the back.

Arsenal currently have defenders Hector Bellerin, Calum Chambers, Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney sitting on the sidelines.

It seems quite bold for Lacazette to publicly support a potential move for his former France teammate, this will undoubtedly send some supporters into a frenzy.

Kurzawa could prove to be a bargain signing, especially if he’s snapped up on a free transfer, the ace has plenty of experience at the top level.

The Frenchman has lost PSG’s starting spot at left-back since Juan Bernat’s arrival, but perhaps a move to the Premier League is exactly what the ace needs to fulfil the star potential he was hotly-tipped to achieve when he burst into Monaco’s first-team.

  1. I suppose if we can get him for nothing, it’s worth considering. But his is not the position we’re on the short side of, so why add to the salary bill with someone not desperately needed when we should be looking to reduce it in order to pay for someone we DO need?
But then, I could never think like these guys do anyway. 🤔

  2. I have not watched him before. If an upgrade, bring him here immediately. Disgusting to see Saka in that position (instead of LW) because of shortage of legs there.

  3. Kurzawa is a good LB but that’s not the position where we need to strengthen the most. I still value Kolasinac. Tierney will soon be back (let’s hope so) to give him some competition. What we need, if we are yet to make a January signing, is a decent CB. That should be the main focus for now.

  4. Tierney is a superb defender, good going forward and very good defensively.
Kolasinac makes very good runs forward but his crossing is not very convincing. His defensive contribution is not very good either but MA’s system has given him much more freedom offensively. For me he is not a quality defender but good to be a back up.

Saka is not an LB but he can be turned into a very good one. This guy has loads of potential to make that left flank his kingdom. He can be very effective when used as a LWB.

I dont think we should consider kurzawa unless we can get him for a cheap amount because that area looks well covered for me.

The opposite flank is a major issue. An injury to maitland niles and we could be in big trouble.Bellerin is still struggling with his injury and he didnt look good when he played either and sokratis/mustafi playing in that position does not make it look any better. Both of them lack pace and offensive contribution(but mustafi has some very good penetrating passes with him)

  5. Despite being more injury-prone than Tierney, Kurzawa could form a good partnership with our French speaking players. Kolasinac could be reassigned to the left DM position after Xhaka leaves next season or sold

I’m just concerned about the comments of PSG fans about Kurzawa on Reddit, which reveal his injury record, poor performance, resigned attitude and limited offensive contribution. They said Kurzawa has angered the team internally
