Arsenal’s match winner says it’s the result that matters..

There was a great swell of relief around the Emirates when Aaron Ramsey bundled the ball in the back of the net to give Arsenal there first opening day win since 2009. But according to last year’s Player Of The Year, it is only the result that matters.

“It was very difficult,” Ramsey told Sky Sports. “They lost their manager but you’d never have known the way they played. They defended really well and it was tough to break down.

“But that’s irrelevant now – the result was what we were looking for and we got the three points.

“We’ve found first games difficult over the last few years so it was important to win.”

“As we came off at half-time we were having a chat about things in midfield,” Ramsey said.

“We were discussing that we couldn’t find options ahead of us and were taking extra touches, slowing our game down.

“But we improved in the second half and thankfully got the three points we wanted.”

We can’t really make him wrong, I was certainly very relieved when the final whistle went. Weren´t you?

      1. Decent, cheers for the info, I looked on Arsenal website and in Wenger’s press conference after the match he didn’t mention Gibbs. I was also at the match and Gibbs ran off the pitch and straight down the tunnel however he was running normally, guess that’s positive?

  6. So to understand if Chelsea, man utd, man city or Liverpool played line that and won, specially Chelsea. It’s known as the mark of a team that want to be champion, bad day at the office but still win. If it’s arsenal that does it, then we were lucky and not good enough. Are we expected to win and roll over every team we play this season?

  7. Our first opening weekend win since 2009, so I’ll mostly disregard to performance and just be happy we got the 3 points. All i could ask for honestly.

It was pretty funny after the match today, outside the Tollington pub, Yaya Sanogo was driving home from the stadium in his very nice Mercedes and literally, about 50 of us were crowded round his car to get autographs and photos haha, but I can say that I’ve met Yaya Sanogo and Ray Parlour now!

  9. Right now it surely did, wasn’t the best of games but every single point is important! This might matter at the end of the season. Surely this kind of performances will not be gifted with a win every time, but we’ll surely pick up form quickly. Another great champions league playoffs performance from rambo? Hope so, he can surely bring it up.

    2. The main concern for me are the guys who tumbed hafiz up haha . Yes we are spending but still in a healthy way, expect a CB and maybe a bonus player (could be DM or ST,)

  12. Game thoughts:

    1. Chambers: Continues to shine – Best passer in the game.
    2. Kos : MOTM – Not even close
    3. Sanchez: Well, I’ll just be kind and not say anymore.
    4. Tactics: 2 wingers who like to go central = little width and little overlap play.
    5. Ramsey: Midas Touch – Great focus to stay onside for that goal.
    6. Monreal: Great game – great defense, won/saved balls, and best cross of the game.
    7. Like it or not, it is still Giroud-22, Sanogo-0. (That one should get some fans going).

      1. Maybe, but last season’s progression does not necessarily support your contention.

        Arsenal led the league for 128 days WITH Giroud. Arsenal lost the league lead when Ramsey, Walcott and Ozil all went down at the same time. Arsenal won the FA Cup – coincidently Ramsey and Ozil were back with the team.

        The biggest factor was the availability of these other key players.

We on the road to become champions, its a hard road and if all 38 games finish with us winning 2-1, i would be mighty grateful , no matter which way you look at it 3 points is three points, so i agree with Rambo and expect to see more score lines like that because there are a couple more teams who play similar to Crystal Palace. Still waiting for the CB and DM

  18. Delighted with the three points. My two cents: This game was crying out for Khedira and Cavani.
    Sanogo still has baby legs, as if just hatched out of an egg. Giroud much better, has 10x better positional sense than Sanogo, the header was at the right time at right place. AW looks old, needs some Brazilian Babes to pep him up!

  19. Anybody else think Debuchy looks just like Freddie Ljungberg? There was a clip on match of the day where he was celebrating Ramsey’s winner after his first attempt. At first viewing, I could have sworn it was Freddie!

  20. Jack not that good, why does AW not give the little Mozart the chance to play? He was the best in pre-season games. Kos, my man of the match. Chambers was solid! Monreal looked good too.

  21. I don’t undstand what’s with Wilshere! He tends to be naive most times and if Ozil gets back, i bet Wilshere will rot on the bench b’se he’ll have no place in a 3 man midfield of Arteta, Ramsey and Ozil.

    1. He wanted regular playing time and I think he wanted a new challenge after 7 years at Arsenal without really nailing down the no. 1 jersey. We always knew he was a capable goalkeeper, and I’m really happy for him that he’s doing well at Swansea. I can see him going to a top club in the top 5 leagues in Europe soon.

    2. He was great yesterday and he did well in our cup run last year. But overall he wasn’t that great for us.

  25. I knew it would not be an easy three points yesterday, no club would lay down in the 1st game of the premiership. Winning ugly shows that the team has character and the will to win right to the final whistle.
