The third candidate in our Rising Stars series is the young Reiss Nelson, who has been at Arsenal since he was 8 years old and has come through the Hale End Academy, like most of our youngsters. He has not yet reached 20 years old but is making steady inroads in to the first XI and looks like another one being fast tracked by Emery. Nelson was sent to Hoffenheim for experience last season and on his return he was given Number 24 in the new squad list.
He is another that is extremely promising and after starting 4 games for the senior side this season he he was ripe to join Nketiah and Willock in the Young Lions games this week, but has been cruelly ruled out through injury. It’s not too serious though and is expected back next month. But having already played a few games let’s see how he has been performing….

Nelson biggest weakness is his mentality. He lacks confidence and will to impose his play on opponent. Young players often break into the team filling in for injured player not at their best position. Rarely do you see a youngster given everything in his hand.
Nelson is considered by many as our most talented young player but currently he is losing horribly vs saka, martinelli, willock, guendouzi because they already have the right mindset to succeed in the epl but not him yet.
He sud be sent on loan, to learn and improve on himself, and show to d club how promising he’s gonna be
But loan should be in England – EPL or Championship – playing physically imposing teams. Right now it seems Nelson has 2 issues preventing him from reaching his full potential:
1. Confidence is not that good which prevents him from dribbling past opponents among other things
2. Without successful dribbles he struggles against strong and quick defenders. It’s good he did well in Germany, but defenders in England–while tactically often inferior–are on average stronger and faster than in Bundesliga.
