Arsenal’s on-loan defender William Saliba out injured again

The young French defender William Saliba has not had much luck at St Etienne since signing for Arsenal this summer. He was loaned back to his old side for him to develop for one more season in Ligue 1, but missed the beginning of the season after having had surgery following an adductor muscle injury.

He finally returned in late September having not played since January, but after playing 6 games (in which incidently St. Etienne didn’t lose a game) but now he has suffered another injury in this weekend’s win over Monaco.

This time it is a crack in his 5th metatarsal, which means that he is likely to miss the next two months football as well, as announced by St. Etienne in a statement which read: “William Saliba, victim of a blow against AS Monaco last Sunday (1-0), suffers a crack of the fifth metatarsal and will miss the confrontation against the FCO.”

We will sincerely hope that he recovers well and doesn’t suffer any more, as the stats are showing that St. Etienne have far superior results with him in the team, and hopefully he will have the same effect when he joins the Gunners.

He could really do with more playing time before moving to London, as he said himself when the transfer was announced: “Well, it was important first of all because I wanted to prove myself for another year at Saint-Etienne, before I come to try and establish myself here at Arsenal,”

“This is a big club, and when you come here, you need to be ready.

“So I’m going to try and have a great season with the club that developed me in order to be ready for Arsenal.”

Personally I think he was already ready to move to Arsenal, but he has been very helpful to St Etienne when he has been on the pitch and they will also be hoping for a quick recovery for the 18 year-old.

  1. I really hope this won’t hinder his future career, because metatarsal injuries can be recurring..

    Speedy recovery!

    1. If he is as injury-prone as Koscielny and Holding, another 30 M would go down the drain

Mustafi is error-prone, but he is healthy and strong as an ox

  2. Can’t wait to welcome him back to our rehabilitation room!;)

Hopefully heals quickly (youth is on his side).
