Arsenal’s sloppy shooting to cost Ozil the EPL record?

The Arsenal and Germany international star Mesut Ozil created another six chances for the Gunners in the big match against Leicester City and he could have been forgiven for thinking that 60 would not have been enough to get him another assist to add to the 16 he had already made in the Premier League this season.

Who would have thought that our not exactly prolific forward Danny Welbeck would have been the one to bag Ozil his 17th, especially after only getting 10 minutes after 10 months out with injury? But in order to set a new Premier League record of 21 in one season, the attacking midfielder needs another four and if our strikers and other outfield players continue to spurn chances the way we have been seeing then he might just fall short.

It might seem unlikely but the same thing happened to Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea last season after he got very close to the 20 of Thierry Henry but then they dried up and he came up short. It would be a real shame if Ozil does not get at least 21 this time but after adding just one in the last four games despite creating 19 good chances, it could happen.

With recent Arsenal transfer rumours suggesting that the German has yet to agree to sign a contract extension, will Arsene Wenger need to sign a new striker to persuade Ozil to stay and not see all these chances go to waste? Or will the likes of Alexis, Giroud and Walcott sharpen up and get him the EPL record to go with his nickname of king of the assist?
