Arsene MUST know that Arsenal STILL need improvement

Arsene has to know that this Arsenal squad still needs improvement by KM.‏

Good day to all of you Arsenal fans out there. So what’s up in Arsene’s head? Does he already have his summer signings on his notebook? Or does he plan his summer beach vacation? You would hope he has a plan, but I’m not too sure…

We all agree with Arsene that you want only the very top players to join your team, but the truth is sometimes you gotta go out and bully out a move. Offer supreme money. Force the other team to sell. This is not how Arsene rolls though.

He would wait, sit in the dark, stalk out a potential deal, see if he can cut the price. We need reinforcements. If another player like Sanchez is available we should snap him up. There is no such thing as top players not being able to play with each other.

Look at Barcelona – Messi, Neymar and Suarez. It’s pretty much as good as it gets. Sanchez and Ozil are a good start, but if we could snap up Jackson Martinez and maybe a Real or Barca drop out (Pedro anyone?) we would pick it up a notch. It will be an improvement. And losing the title 4 rounds before the end looks to me like improvement can be made.

Snap up Petr Cech or Hugo Lloris, and put the icing on the cake with a new DM. Then we’ll be looking like it. One star player in your team is respectful but can be countered. Having a team of star players is another thing coming. Everyone knows Arsenal play good and all that, but the fear factor is what I’m talking about.

We had an immense squad 11 years ago. Full of strength, power, speed, clinical finishing and solid defending. We have style and potential now. We’re still a team you always feel could concede a goal. We’re still a team that hasn’t gone past the last 16 of UCL in the last 5 seasons and next year with the new rules favoring the champions of the top leagues it’ll be even harder.

We need to make a stamp. Buy early and buy quality. Even if it means pay a little extra. There’s no World Cup, no European Championship, no Asia tour, no more excuses. Have the team set up in July and prepare for a solid start, different from this season. Mourinho bought Fabregas, Costa and Matic and brought back Courtois and that won him the title.

We need to make a bold statement like that to put ourselves among the big boys, not only on paper but quality wise. I don’t buy that Wenger nonsense that there isn’t quality. There is and it costs money. You always take a risk with a signing. The bigger the signing, the bigger the risk, but hey! – that’s football. If we want to reach the top, we gotta start playing like the best. Top players sometimes easily fall out of favor with a manager (like Ozil and Sanchez) and we should take advantage.

Roughen up. We need to make next season the season we truly return to the elite football map. Chelsea gave us an example. Let’s be brave this time.

Cheers!

  1. We need to spend in order to improve furthermore. We need 2 quality signings and we are good to go. A DM and a quality striker to challenge giroud. A healthy challenge would be great. The gk position is one that makes me confused, I don’t know if we need a new keeper or should we stick with ospina as our number 1

  2. all the top 4 will spend -an spend big.

it depends what we want- for the league we need 2
for a real splash in cl- 3/4

    1. we dont need to spend mad money-
      just spend wisely-thats my point

ivan arsene an dicky are gonna have to go hard-

  3. i loved wenger’s comments about how the public though that we as a club had lots of money in the hard years when the players left, but he said that wasn’t the case so that makes me respect what he did for us even more now.
because he has come out and publicly admitted that there was no massive resources available like he has now, but now he has them as he said the club is now in a much stronger position he will no doubt put the right money out for the right player.

  4. wengers transfer pitbull dicky law will be on the case this summer, he dose wenger’s dirty work in the market kinda like the winston wolf of the transfer market.
if there is someone unavailable wenger send tricky dicky to “sort the problem out” and the player become magically available after he has been there. NO PLAYER IS OUT OF OUR REACH

  5. 4 players, one is already signed i believe (Morgan Schneiderlin) is what we need to win this league. I’m with Henry on this one guys, we need a top GK (Lloris), a CB (Schar/abdeynoor or even hummels if we’re ambitious enough) and lastly a Henry-esque ST (Cavani/Jackson martinez).

These 4 players are tailor made and on their primes, i believe they can win us the league. We need to depart with Podolski/flamini/rosicky/ryo, loan out sanogo/jenko

    1. Lloris is a good goalkeeper but I really don’t understand the insane overhype for him. Conceded 45 goals in 32 matches this season, 7 shutouts. Ospina conceded 8 goals in 14 matches, 7 shutouts. Is our defence really that much better than Spurs’ that they still manage to have a Goalie with those stats that is worth us spending a fortune on to improve on our already successful Ospina??? (At least Cech is reasonably priced and way more experienced.)

Careful, you almost compared Cavani (wildly overpriced) and Jackson (old and plays in an easy league with a dominant team/also overpriced) to Henry.

You also think we should buy a CB despite us having 4 already… 3 of which are completely mature and even Chambers impressed the few times he had to take the mantle at the beginning.

but sure, let’s spend 75 mil just to satisfy the urge.

        1. I think that Ospina’s performances for Arsenal have been excellent, if he produces saves like he did in the World Cup, particularly the game against Argentina then few of us will be talking about a replacement for him. He was a bargain buy and I do not think we need a replacement.

          1. Wenger should have told everyone he paid £30M for him and they’d be happier to keep him.

  6. We definitely need another DM and a top striker or a young striker, but with lot of potential (not Welbeck or Sanogo type potential haha).

I’ve noticed that not many people seem to mention the LW position though, but I feel that area really needs more depth. Obviously Sanchez is a nailed down starter every game at LW, but beyond him, who is there? What if he needs a rest or gets injured? The only player I can think of as back-up for LW is Welbeck. But he’s not a natural LW, and not good enough in general anyway. We’re well stocked on the RW, so I would like the same for the LW as well.

  7. Konstantin Mitov, you have said well. But don’t forget that it had earlier been said, that the Boss is going to have £50m for the summer reinforcement of his squad as per the electronic press media that I have read. Should that be true, we can only expect 1 marquee signing. Hopeful he will be a top quality centerforwad that will give Giroud a good competition for his money to Arsenal’s advantage. And I suspect that’s the issue Boss doesn’t want to admit. But he has to be realistic and accept this obvious fact. Giroud as our lone centerforward has never accumulated 30 goals per season for Arsenal. He is good, but he alone may not be able to carry Arsenal to the winners level of the BPL and UCL. Already we have one reliable top quality striker in the person of Sanchez who is mostly used as a right winger. Look at the period Giroud was injured, there is no another recognised top quality centerforwad in the team to mann that position as Welbeck is short of top quality centerforwad striking to adequately make his presence felt there. Assuming the Boss spent around £35m on a new striker, he will be left with £15m to get a new Left Back for security reasons. I am afraid, there will be no more money for a new addition of a top quality CB. And no new addition will be added to the Gunners midfield. Apart of the Boss holding on to Walcott, the Boss could bring back Benik Afobe as a solution for Giroud’s option. Then he could use whatever sum out the £35 emarked for a new top quality centerforwad to get a top quality midfielder for Arsenal. I think Rosicky’s time at Arsenal should up. He should be sold in the Summer to make space for the likely new top midfielder. Arteta can remain at Arsenal for his experience, leadership and personality. But I think he could be sparingly played next season.

    1. Sanchez plays on the left.
Why Left Back, don’t we have two quality left backs competing already?
Another CB when we have 4??
Flamini should be the one leaving, not Rosicky if we need room for a player.
We aren’t bringing back Afobe when we have Sanogo, Akpom, Welbeck (even Walcott) all wanting to challenge for CF.

      1. Sanogo can’t hit a barn door, Wellbeck is willing, but can he ever be an out and out striker, I doubt it! Akpom is too young to make any real judgement on, and I don’t think Walcott has the attributes to be a CF.

  8. Konstantin Mitov, you have said well. 9. He is simply saying that only the best talent can take this team where it needs to be and I totally agree with that…hopefully the policies put in place the past 2 windows will continue and maybe we can even top what we did in the past 2 combined in terms of quality!! I agree with the fact that he needs to get the players needed quickly: he knows the areas that needs improvement, who he doesn’t trust going forward or have the quality per say, there’s no big tournament looming and the money is there!!1st deal with the players on loan clearly apart from Jenko the rest of them don’t seem like they’ll be plying there trade with us!!2nd whoever is here deal with who you don’t trust and 3rd get those WC players in (DM,GK, ST and maybe a defender but I do see Chambers in the middle and Gabriel a starter alongside Kos) but again all will depend on who goes. Lots of movement this summer for the Gunners…like they say let’s wait and see, Hope for the best!!GUNNERS!!

  10. Can I just say you alude to our squad of 11 years ago – you realise that our SQUAD had major issues back then? Our CB cover was Pascal Cygan. Our RB cover was Gavin Hoyte. We used 22 players in the invicibles season and of those I think 4 of them only got 1 game! The first 14 players may have been great, but we lacked depth and it’s why in the following years after we lost a few key players we could not ever get going again.

Now our first team might be slightly behind, but our actual squad as a whole is probably more balanced. What we need to add is a DM and a Striker. Hopefully Gabriel comes good and we replace Mert. We do not need to buy players who are overpriced but as you said – if someone of extreme quality becomes available we should be the one lapping up that opportunistic signing. And add to that, please no Cavani or Martinez or Benteke or Higuain. None of those are going to set the PL alight in the way the money spent on them demands. Why spend upwards of what we bought Alexis for and get less quality? I’d prefer to take a punt on a riskier venture who has known talent – at least that way we have the chance of unearthing the next Henry/Ronaldo.

    1. Wise words. I said something the other day about the Invincible squad and how we tend to mythologise the past. If we win our last 4 games and score another 7 goals we will have won one less game and scored the same number of goals in a much more competitive era. I saw a thread titled “Arsenal MUST spend big to become GREAT again” – perhaps the most depressing title I have seen on this forum for ages. Football is not quite there yet, but when entering in to an arms race and spending more money than your rivals is viewed as the ONLY measure of “real ambition” and the only way to improve a team then football will eventually eat itself. The five major leagues in Europe have probably only got 8-10 teams total between them who can realistically win their domestic titles. The UCL has possibly 4 or 5 teams – and most of these teams are those who don’t have to fret too much about winning their leagues on a regular basis and can organise and gear themselves with the UCL as a priority. There are hundreds of other top flight clubs around Europe who have nothing more than survival plans and constantly live in the shadow of these illustrious teams.

I am further surprised that someone hasn’t started a thread on here regarding Aliko Dangote. There must be dozens of the “real ambition” super-fans who would welcome this and it would give hope to their “spend, spend, spend” galactico proclivities and the clear desire for a “new direction” for the club. Come on guys where are you? For my part, and it wouldn’t be any loss to anyone but myself, I would give up on Arsenal and find reward in supporting a lower league team in my area.

Anyhow, back to our transfer needs. Pretty clear Wenger has set the template for this – a world class player to go straight in to the 1st team if available, and whatever squad strengthening is required. Like it or not we are not going to buy a new spine in one go. Not sure why anyone would get carried away on flights of fantasy that would or could happen – it won’t. Without directly mentioning us, I have heard Liverpool and Tottenham supporters rue their transfer market trolley dashes getting to the check-outs with all sorts of odds and sods and last minute bargains – and wishing they had bought 1 or 2 “proper” players and built it up on an incremental basis. United could come good next season – we will see – but they spent £200M in little over a year and basically ended back up with a Ferguson/Moyes team to see them over the line in to 4th place.

2 or 3 quality signings this summer and we may well have the best Arsenal SQUAD in recent memory.

  11. There is something about human nature that is always yearning for something new. Buy new players even if they are not as good as the ones you have. I am not one of those who think the Arsenal squad is not up to standard. My long held view is that if it were not for injuries we would have competed very favourably with Chelsea. Chelsea has good players but so does Arsenal; Chelsea has a good manager so does Arsenal. Hence other than good fortune I don’t think Chelsea would have had an edge over Arsenal. Forget the pundits and their forecasts. They are as bad as their contemporaries in the political world who got it all wrong on the British general elections! Chelsea has had good fortune this season but I don’t think this will always be the case. A time is coming when Arsenal may notbe bedevilled by so many injuries and that could herald a new beginning for Arsenal.
Of course I am not oblivious to the fact that every team needs improvement all the time and adding players is something every team must do constantly. However addition of players must not be looked at as an end in itself but a means to an end which is to fill up any gaps that may exist in the team. Besides you cannot buy every player on the market. Furthermore buying players in itself may not guarantee success. Man U this season spent in excess of 150 million pounds but it is struggling to get a top four position and is pondering spending another 200 million next season! If mere addition or spending of money ensured success then Man U would not be struggling! On the other hand Wenger has admitted that he lacked money for the last nine or so years and yet still kept in the top four all those years. It is a very complex situation which cannot be looked at in a simplistic manner. Arsenal has the squad depth and quality to compete next season but addition of two or three quality players would be a great bonus.
