Arsene Wenger positive about title chances – And Champions League!

Arsene Wenger does not set long term goals so early in the season, but he always says that you should look at the table after ten games to see which teams are in the title hunt. At this point we are joint top ahead of our crucial North London derby, having already played most of the top teams, and now he is looking towards the mid-season point.

“We have to be in the fight at Christmas,” Le Prof told the Guardian. “The desire is there. We need to show it in all our games. What is positive for us is, if you look at our fixtures until now, we have played all the big teams and the teams fighting at the top apart from Man City. When we were top two years ago we had only played the teams in the second half of the table. This time we are in a strong position and we have played many teams who are in the top half of the table.”

Our heavy defeat to Bayern Munich in midweek hasn’t dented his belief that we can still progress this season, in fact he sounds very positive. “We can still have a bright future in the Champions League,” he continued. “I feel we are not out of the competition yet. Of all the teams I have seen Bayern would be the super favourite. We knew before the game that Bayern was a special game for us and that the Premier League is a competition where we are on a strong run up to now and we want to continue that. This weekend we have a good opportunity to put things right.”

If we can get all three points today, we will be sitting pretty ahead of the international break and it will be a good opportunity for some of our knackered players to have a rest and recover from their wounds. Defeat will put a severe dent in our title aspirations as well as our confidence, so let’s go out and make sure that does NOT happen

Onwards and Upwards!
