Mikel Arteta is satisfied with the current Arsenal squad if no further activity happens in the final days of the transfer window, as they have made some fine signings.
The Gunners have focused on quality over quantity this summer, which means they have signed fewer players than they did a year ago. However, that is understandable as they were one of the teams that impressed in all competitions last season and won the league title.
Arsenal confident in current squad
In the Champions League, they lost the final on penalties, so they have a strong squad and do not need to make too many changes to do well this season. The Gunners understand this, and that has guided their business this summer, with several of their players ready to deliver even better performances this term.
They see this as a year in which they can defend their league crown and win other trophies by the time the season comes to an end. Their recruitment has therefore been focused on strengthening the squad without making unnecessary changes.
Arsenal could still do more business before the transfer window closes, but Arteta is more than happy with the group he has now if no further moves happen. The manager believes the squad is capable of competing strongly across the season.
Arteta wants Arsenal to improve
Arteta tells Arsenal Media:
“Today, I’m satisfied. I hope that when it closes, I am even more satisfied because I will be even more convinced the team has put in a great performance against Villa and won the game, and we are in the best possible scenario.”
The manager’s comments show that he is pleased with the work Arsenal have completed during the transfer window, while still leaving room for greater satisfaction if the team continues to perform well.
The upcoming match against Villa will therefore be important as Arsenal look to demonstrate that their current squad is ready for another demanding campaign. A strong performance and victory would give Arteta further confidence in the group.
Although further business remains possible, Arsenal do not appear dependent on additional signings. Their existing squad has already shown its quality, and Arteta believes it can deliver another successful season.
The Gunners will now focus on continuing their strong start and competing for the trophies they have targeted this term.

He may be satisfied now, but surely that will change should Martinelli be sold and not replaced. Which is a risk, if Arsenal are putting all their eggs in the Alvarez basket.

Exactly, Alvarez doesn’t want us. Even he somehow joined us, he would pull the same drama as he is doing now at Arhletico the next time Barcelona hints any interest.
I don’t see the point of selling Martinelli now. He is surely a good backup and Tzolis will not play all games. Eze on the left seems to be still a work in process. Martinelli may lack something offensively, but his defense and work rate is top notch.
Sell Jesus ASAP, Martinelli can deputize as a central forward as well.

We have this brilliant new signing playing extremely well, called Odegaard, we didn’t have last season – hip and knee problems throughout last season, never fit. We basically achieved 2 finals and a title without him.
Goal machine Havertz was out for nearly a year, he only had one kick last season and that put the ball in the PSG net to give us cup final lead. We basically achieved 2 finals and a title without him. Havertz is the sort of player who will bang in 20+ goals if stays fit, everyone will say where’s he been, but it’s simply entering that slot where many players are different becuase they are at peak of their playing career so have their best years.
Ditto Saka wasn’t at his best last season, I think played too much football and through too much injury in seasons before. Saka on form is a £100M+ player. We basically achieved 2 finals and a title without him anywhere near his best.
Eze and Gyokeres entering their second season – there is such a thing as acclimatising and settling into new club seasons, and suddenly players can look better and change our opinions.
I’m still to be convinced by Tzolis. Tzolis has not proved he has Premier League cutting edge yet, but Noni has, and Noni can be a starter, on both wings.
And then there are youngsters having breakthrough seasons. Ceadach O’Neill has played two international matches already – he can absolutely play left wing.

If Martinelli goes and no replacement we are far far weaker. Vieira and Jesus are total passengers, and only a fool thinks we would be stronger or better.
Martinelli is by far better than Jesus or Vieira, unfortunately no one (so far) cares to pay for Jesus or a decent fee for Vieira. Would not surprise me if clubs are waiting to see if we rip up Vieira’s contract like we did with Nelson. Jesus gets paid too much to agree to rip up his contract, so he may ride out his contract and get paid on the bench.
If Martinelli goes, and Rashford comes in on loan that might work.
Rashford is apparently on 350K per week. That’s £18.2M per year.
If that deal can be done without a Loan Fee, or at least a ‘nominal loan fee – it could work out OK
Apparently, Rashford’s Goal / Assist numbers for Barca last season were 14 / 14.
If he could produce anything like those numbers for Arsenal this season I think we’d all be happy enough.
If nothing else is done – No Alvarez, then Gyokeres stays – and I think with improved service from Saka, Tzolis (and possibly, Rashford ) PLUS goals he creates for himself – He could have a really good second season.

Yes. I wouldn’t expect the same Havertz of 2 or 3 years ago. They all should be different players than their 2 or 3 years ago self. In Havertz case I wouldn’t expect him to charge around as much this season compared to previous seasons, instead older wiser he will focus more on being in the right place at the right moment. So he could average a goal every other match he starts. 24 starts 12 goals.
