He may not be every Gooner’s favourite, but Leandro Trossard remains a key cog in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal project.
Featuring in all 38 Premier League games last season, the former Brighton man notched eight goals and seven assists, a decent return in a campaign blighted by the team’s struggles in front of goal.
Deep down, most Gooners know that with Trossard in the squad, their chances of chasing glory improve.
Still, the question remains, will Leandro Trossard be at Arsenal come deadline day if the latest reports are to be believed?
Just days ago, Just Arsenal relayed a positive update on the Belgian international, suggesting Arsenal and Trossard were close to agreeing a new deal with both sides willing to compromise to make it happen.
No breakthrough in contract talks
Yet while fans awaited a contract extension announcement, it has now emerged that talks have stalled.
According to The Athletic, discussions focused on a wage rise rather than a contract extension. However, Trossard has so far declined the terms on offer, and the deal remains unsigned as he waits to see what the market brings. In early July, Trossard was reported to be stalling on signing due to wage demands, and it appears to still be a stumbling block.
On the surface, Arsenal’s logical play might be to offload the 30-year-old, whose current deal expires next summer.

Trossard still in the plans
But with Arteta viewing Trossard as part of his plans for next season, a sale looks unlikely.
The club may risk losing him for free, preferring to retain his goals and versatility, which proved vital at times last season.
And unless Arsenal sign a natural left-winger, letting Trossard go now would feel like a tactical misstep.
With Noni Madueke set to challenge both Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli for that flank, the Belgian’s adaptability could still make him a key figure even if it is his Emirates swansong.
On top of that, a World Cup year looms, and Trossard’s desire to play a prominent role for Belgium should fuel his performances regardless of whether he snubs the new deal or not.
Your thoughts are welcome in the comments.

I think his time at Arsenal may be coming to an end, nevertheless. We’ll see though.
If he’s stalling over his wage demands, then the simple thing to do is, tell him to look else where for a wage rise.
These players and there wage demands, they’ll be following the Doctors out on strike next. 🤦♂️🤷♂️
I agree with your thoughts and it appears to me that his agent should be doing a better job for him but as usual we don’t know the whole story.
I believe his and Zinny’s situation at the club and the club’s desire to retain their services are intertwined with the club’s efforts to obtain Eze at the best transfer price/payment terms which is in turn reliant on other changes in the market such as Chelsea getting Simons and Garnacho. Sadly, it’s just one of those things that will likely hang out there until the right dominoes start to fall.
Bruised Banana,
What’s Pizza got do with it. 😂🤣👍

I think we can all say that Trossard has been a great acquisition for the price, and has scored some really important goals. That being said, given his age and waning pace/sharpness yet the fact his numbers are still decent there’s never been a better time to sell him and make space in the squad for someone younger and more creative. If he wants more wages I’m sure a Saudi club would love to take him, but I can’t see many top teams offering him any more than us.
Trossard is more better than Martinelli & Kai. Very aggressive and hardworking when it comes to fighting for win. He should be retained
