At last Arsenal are cranking up their transfer dealings

This looks like it going to be a rollercoaster week ahead for Arsenal fans. After Arsene Wenger admitted that he needs to clear out many more players before he can bring in replacements, it seems that the exodus of out-of-favour Gunners is now being dealt with in earnest.

We had the unusual sight of Harry Redknapp doing Arsenal a favour as he took the outcast Carl Jenkinson off our hands, but Wenger also through in the up-and-coming youngster Cohen Bramall into the mix as an extra sweetener. Jenkinson is considered an also ran at Arsenal, but Redknapp said: “He’s played at Arsenal and been out on loan at West Ham as well.

“We’re delighted to have him, he brings experience, he’s got pace, he’s a really attacking right-back. I think he’s a really good signing for us.

“I’m surprised I managed to get him in the Championship because there were a few Premier League teams in for him as well. I’m really pleased to have him.”

Maybe if he gets his confidence back and stops being so cocky maybe he could be a success, but for me I think that Birmingham got a better deal on Cohen, and Redknapp is happy too. He said: “He’s lightning quick, he has fantastic pace and a great left foot. All the reports from Arsenal have been excellent.

“He played pre-season against Chelsea and he played against Bayern Munich so he’s had some experience around the Arsenal first team as well.”

I certainly hope that Cohen has a great year and comes back to Arsenal next season with hopes of making our first team. But Jenkinson has no chance. I am sure he is only on loan because no-one will pay him the wages he is getting from us, and Wenger can’t wait for his contract to run down…

Otherwise, we also have Chuba Akpom looking to be joining Celtic or Leeds. We can only hope that he does well in the lower Leagues, as he doesn’t seem to have a hope of making our first team….

Hopefully Besiktas will take Debuchy off our hands very soon, and perhaps Gibbs could be joining him in Turkey with Galatasaray, although I wouldn’t mind him staying for our Europa League team, a stance I also think could be good for Calum Chambers….

Lucas Perez is also certain to leave imminently, and although he wants to return to La Coruña, there are also rumours that Everton, Newcastle, Valencia, Levante, Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray are all interested.

Come on Wenger, get all these players out the door quickly and then we can concentrate on the arrivals!

  1. Great now all we need is some players in. Draxler and lemar as well as Seri please. I will be happy that we have done enough for top 4. If we also add William carvhallo and the Southampton centerback that will be perfect but one too many players I think so let’s just stick with the 1st 3

    1. Lemar,Draxler and Seri are not what we need. But them and still the problems in the team recurr. We need one player which is a CB.Before the season started we said we needed a CF,CM and LB.We’ve gotten two of these but we needed a CM because Cazorla and Ramsey were injured whilst Wilshere was on loan. Now Ramsey and Wilshere are back and it makes no sense in bringing another tippy tappy CM if we’re not selling one of them.

      1. JUST IN:News coming in is that Oxlade Chambrrlain is likely to accept the £125,000 a week offer.Chelsea and Arsenal had previously agreed a deal worth £37.5 for him but Wenger stepped in and told the board that he’ll rather he left for free and had no intention of selling him.Thank Arsene.
Other news is that it’s likely Arsenal will be signing only one playerand that player is a defender. We are currently assessing options.
Kylian Mbappe’s move to PSG looks very close but it’s likely to be a loan deal as they want to avoid FFP but Lucas Moura is likely to go to Monaco as part of the deal. They’ll however pay the remaining fee next season. So I can it a loan permanent done deal.

      2. They are players that we need as the current ones are not good enough. We need to replace ozil and Sanchez who clearly don’t love the club.

Anyway with that thinking all we need is a CB which I think we have enough of at the moment. Let holding and chambers develope I hope I see them in our cup games this year. Ok sorry you don’t need more than 7 1st team defenders 8 if you include beilek. It’s the formation that causes the problems not the players or lack of.

This 3/5 at the back only works on the bigger teams I think so they can’t dominate the midfield. Smaller clubs we can dominate the midfield and show abandon that formation. Besides we always end up reverting and sending giroud and another forward upfront to score

        1. That’s just waste of space and money.Typical Wenger signings.Getting what we need not what we want.It makes absolutely no sense signing Seri,Lemar and Draxler while we should be signing a top CB anf if possible a DM.This is what he does every season.Bringing in luxury buys that don’t address our needs.

    2. W. Carvalho ? Have you watch play or you just pick up names because he has being mentioned a lot here. He is an ok player and that is all and we have a whole lot that. Besides he can’t work in Wenger’s system.

      1. What System?….3/4/3…Where he plays 2 left backs as centre backs…a left back as a right wing-back…a right-wing back as a left wing-back…a central mid-fielder as an attacker just behind the centre forward and leaves a central midfielder with no pace exposed without anyone to protect him or the defenders behind him. This so -called system can only work if the best players available are put into the positions that they are best suited to fullfil. At the same time they must remain focussed on the job in hand and press the opposition whenever they lose the ball…as they did in the FA Cup Final (Ozil included).Unfortunately the so-called Manager and his coaching staff seem incapable of persuading the team to consistently play in the way required so we’re left with a complete mess!!

    3. Are you living in cloud cuckoo land !! There is no way Wenger will sign Lemar, Draxler and Series…get real.

  2. Finally some business dealings for deadwoods. Why is Arsenal leaving it this late it really hard for me to understand.
Like I said before hopefully Perez & Debuchy will be sold prior to the liverpool game which will make it 6 players gone. Maitland-Niles could potentially go on loan.
I don’t know about the Chambers’s case but clearly he has been frozen out and a permanent move away seems on the cards. Could Arsenal use him in a deal for Van Djik? That would be quite something.
As well, I am not sold on Walcott. Selling him would be good for both parties. At 28 this could be his last big moves taking into account that pretty much all he has is pace. Also keeping a player like him on big wages yet on the bench instead of making space for say a Lemar could be costly long term.
Finally can’t wait to tie down Ox to the long term deal we’ve been waiting for. Will Ozil follow? And rumours are ongoing about Draxler & Llorente from Madrid both would be excellent signing. Looks like it will be a busy end to the window fro Arsenal yet again.

    1. Panic sell, we were too greedy and wanted more for average players. Now it has lead to a fury of panic and an obastacke into bringing players in. The management it totally and utterly incompetent for the clubs stature.

  3. Look Guy’s Mr Wenger is finished in this Transfer Window and there is very little change in the Team from last season. Mr Wenger is like a lost boy he hasn’t a clue. What is this Man still doing there.
Wenger said I am very pleased with our market because we bought good players who can integrate with our style of play. What a load of BXXXX. Wenger has to go.

  4. When Kilian Mappe comes to PSG than Draxler is on the market. He goes to Liverpool if Coutinho goes to Barcelona because Liverpool plays Champions League and pays more money. IF Coutinho stay Draxler kamst du Arsenal

  5. Maybe the contact rebels are waiting for Arsenal’s next movements in this transfer window? Messi is also waiting for Barcelona’s transfer movements, as he seems delaying his contact signing.

If Arsenal only have Lacazette and Kolasinac, Arsenal would look not ambitious enough. This could make their transfer targets unwilling to come.

  6. It has been interesting to note that aside Sanchez, Ozil and the Ox other clubs do not seem that interested in paying money for our players.
Only Sczesney & Gabriel have has money paid for them despite the fact that other clubs are getting inflated fees for their players.
The likes of Gibbs, Walcott, Wilshire, Debuchy, Chambers, Welbeck, Campbell, Elneny and Perez have received no serious offers. Yes I know that offers were made for Gibbs and Perez but they were very low. For me this highlights tge poor quality of our squad.

    1. The last player that Arsenal sold for more than £15m was RVP.Wenger no longer takes players with potential and turns them into “diamonds”.Instead he turns them into “Deadwood”…worse “Overpaid Deadwood”!!

  7. I know we all want “big name” signings and maybe one will happen but I would like to see the young lad Nelson get some games. He really does look the part. If he was a Monaco player we’d be offering 50m for him.

    1. Nelson took his goals like a seasoned pro; the sooner these boys (nelson, nketiah, maitland-n) are promoted to play 1st team football is the sooner we get on recovery road.

by comparison, i watched everton’s youngsters play neatly with rooney. younsters are fearless and they managed to contain citeh at the etihad. im sure our youngsters would be a breath of fresh air.

      1. Happy to see Nelson given a chance as he deserves it and would give a kick up the backside for some of our ‘big’ players. Trouble is Wenger won’t upset his favourites & it remains paper talk about the exodus of players – I watch & wait every day with very little movement or just quotes repeating the last 7 seasons. The window will close, maybe a last minute rush of a player leaving, but no real progress (again) so settle down ready for the excuses to come out (referees, luck, no pre-season, blah, blah)

  8. Admin,
Thank you for the post about 3 articles back regarding Mesut and Xhaka not fitting in the 3 back system. Is precisely what I was thinking. To expound on that thought, for me not only do those 2 not fit, I don’t believe it benefits Arsenal as a whole to play that formation anymore.

Either way, thanks. Enjoyed the read and the commentary from us supporters.

    1. Totalybagree and said it a long time ago. It should be used as a surprise for teams that expect to open us up easy and can usually.

      1. Yeah it should no longer be plan A. I believe it served its purpose last year to help the players to focus on something else rather than the string of negative results, and helped stop the bleeding.
Now, I believe it no longer maximizes the potential of the team. Our balance is not there (something that Arsene has struggled with for quite some time now) and it doesn’t get the best personnel on the field.
At minimum I think we should go back to our 4231, and with our current personnel, here’s what I would do:
        Cech
        Hector
        LK6
Mustafi – I guess. Needs to play better
        Sead/Nacho
Le Coq – has the athleticism, pace, and ability to be the CDM he was next to Santi
Iwobi – the technical ability to break the lines in the middle of the field that Santi has. Mild concerns about his defensive ability, but we had the same concern with Santi before he moved there.
Mesut – back in the middle of the field as the 10 where he can roam and more easily link up with both Alexis and Lacazette
Alexis & Ox – I don’t believe that Ox has the class to finish as he should, but his link up play is better than Theo and he’ll work defensively.
Lacazette – we need to do a better job of utilizing his runs off the shoulder of defenders earlier in the build up. Stretch teams a bit more.

For me that lineup provides the balance, pace, and technical ability for Arsene to play the way he wants to play, and give us the best chance to win games. Here’s helping.

  9. Our season is always over before it begins…someone tell me what ramsey, coqulien, elneny, wilshere are doing at ARSENAL?

  10. I be happy if we get Seri, and Lemar to join us and we be a top four side, so come on Wenger get rid of the also rans in debuchy, Gibbs and akpom and Perez to free the budget and bring in two or three quality players

  11. seriously ambitious? we’d have sold walcott, perez, wilshire to generate funds and replenish the team. I resent seeing my team featured in europa the more i think bout how we ended up here the more players i find to be unworthy to wear the shirt.

1week to see where we’re gonna be at and currently the signs are not looking good. 1 week to see lemar run out for man u or drax choose lpool what a week we could have in store.

  12. Have you read the latest Wenger quote?:
ARSENE WENGER has claimed Arsenal cannot sign more players because clubs are looking to exploit Premier League teams with inflated transfer fees.

    Circles of BS!!!

    1. more Wenger comments:
Arsene Wenger has suggested the Gunners will not do any more business as he feels Premier League clubs are being forced to pay over the odds.

“”I am very pleased with our market because we bought good players who can integrate with our style of play, that’s what we want,” Wenger said.

“On the other hand, it is very difficult.

“Today, the prices are out of proportion. The transfer market has become very demanding today.

“There is no transfer market anymore because the price depends only on the identity of the buyer.”

  13. The man is a disgrace to the club … of course players like chamberlain like it they would actually have to work hard at any other top club for their inflated salaries …wenger is only unhappy when players like Sanchez or van persie call him out .. only losers in this deal are the fans

  14. Transfer window will be closed by the time we get all the deadwood we can out. And Arsenal aren’t getting anyone else this window. If it will be anyone it’ll be another youngster, probably English, and probably will get crazy wages a year from now and will be impossible to get rid of later.

  15. May as well close this site down and re open when the board and manager are removed sorry but some have been duped again. It won’t be long before the protests begin and the BS will come out again

  16. Draxler a great player who’s skilful a goal scorer etc.
But he’s another lightweight mild mannered player. As Wenger would say a great attitude, yawn.
I know what he’s saying and the sqaud needs to remain stable but I’d like someone with a bit of bite/edge.

MU were targeting peresic and we talk about draxler.
I like them both but peresic is stronger and more feisty.
Draxler is out of ozil mould I feel a little languid and with sometimes a negative body language.

    1. Ronny, what you say about “mild mannered” players is so true. Our trouble is that Wenger actually seeks out mainly mild mannered players, some who have great talent but no will to win and be fierce winners at all costs , like Viera was a reliable and world class real winner. I will name several, with the worst attitudes first: Weed Walcott, Ozil, Bellerin, Iwobi, Wilshere-who is aggressive on the pitch but has other attitude problems in his lifestyle- Ox (though at long last he MAY be redeeming himself,) Merts, Mustafi, Holding, Xhaka. None of these players are consistently reliable and some like Walcott never EVER work hard. Stupid or don’t concentrate players are Wilshere, Xhaka and Ox and often Bellerin too. I would get rid of all these as soon as they can be replaced, except Holding and Iwobi who are still very young and hopefully will change, as both are clearly hugely talented. I have excluded those on the squad fringe (or clearly on the way out as soon as club can sell/loan them) as not yet able to judge their on pitch attitude. KEEN TO KEEP are Sanchez-though he will go next summer or this- Cech, Ospina, Koscielny, Kolasinic, Welbeck, Ramsey, Giroud, Lacazette, Cazorla(if he is fit by Jan 2018). All those, which is not many, I would keep have either proved to have a will to win or just joined us, even though several are clearly not the most talented in the club. My simple view is that once players have proved unreliable over a long period AND have not shown real spirit and consistency , or when injured, never seem to get fit again, they are no use to us. Some, like Cazorla, have a great team attitude and though older and injured , I would make exceptions for. Without concentration and will to win, as well as talent and ability to mainly stay fit, all players are useless. There are one or two others like Monreal who are marginal either way but whose attitude at least is good. I realise this cannot happen overnight BUT we have to make a start , which means a new manager and bring in someone who will face the truth , instead of constantly making excuses for long term non -productive players. Of course some willdisgree with my lists and that ‘s fine But please give your reasons, not just childish abuse.

      1. That sums up Arsenal perfectly. Until the mentality and attitude is changed within the club we will never succeed . Sadly even those players with fighting spirit succumb to the cancer that is so ingra8ned within this club

        1. “Wenger out”, Sack Wenger and Gazidis”, yawn!!!
Can we stop talking rubbish on this site. Please get it into your deluded skulls, that the board and owner are going nowhere. Wenger is also going nowhere as he just signed a new contract. “Buy this player and sell that player”
Can we instead talk about things we can actually influence such as improving match day support.

  17. Yes we need fresh players and to get the deadwood out . But the overriding problem is -and has been since around 2007- that there is no player motivation to constantly try and bust a gut. We have far too many of the Walcott type, just wanting to see out his wasted career on unearned ridiculously high wages and with no ambition at all to win trophies. If he had ambition, he would try hard. He never does, so he doesn’t want it enough. That has been abundantly clear to me for a decade now but still this idler remains and THIS is the actual problem at Arsenal. You can buy 20 world class players (in theory) but unless they can be arsed to try their damndest, it is useless. We have a manager who refuses to face this fact and do something about it. He never does, for a decade now and must be sacked. Until we have a manager with real title ambition, that will feed through to his squad as the last decade has amply proved, at least to me and those , like me, who can actually see what is staring them in the face , year after long year.

    1. I do not disagree with most of your comments, however, I would add – even if you were to get Wenger out, ownership and management would be the same. Do you think they would bring in a manager and give him loads of money to buy players and challenge for hardware? I hear you about the player management from the team level, and I agree, but to me, it is the entire club mentality and organization. But yes, sometimes it seems many players are just coasting, and why not? No one is lighting a fire under them!

A damn carbon-copy to last season! Oh, we are going to challenge; we have a 100 mil war chest to spend; we are going to bring in several quality players; blah, blah, blah . . . Same ol’ Sheit!!! Last season was hard enough, but to replicate the same BS and lies to a damn T?? I would say, unbelievable, yet, here we are, SAME as last season, but worse actually due to so many last year contracts, too! What a damn mess! Frankly, it is embarrassing at this point!! How many times can you get it up the arse before you cross your legs and finally sit-down?

  18. I know Persic very good. Draxler is more than one class better – 100%! The problem is that Draxler price is not 35 millions. PSG want minimum 80 Millions, you will see

  19. It is not the players fault……..Wenger seems to base
his selection on contract terms……..especially those in their last year……….the Ox now plays in almost every game….remember he did the same thing with Theo………then there is Welbeck……dude can’t score……yet has had more chances than Perez……

  20. “Cranking up” is a ridiculously generous assessment. Since Kola & Laca (terrific acquisitions!) we have brought NOBODY in and missed numerous chances seized by others. Shameful! “Finally moving out some players we should have acted on sending or loaning out much sooner” is a more accurate summary…Though I really wish we would keep Lucas and play him much more regularly (but knowing this will not happen, he deserves regular game time elsewhere). We’ve put ourselves in a terrible position by overpaying marginal players making it hard to move them out (hence why we’re seeing loans rather than purchases) and letting so many players go to the very end of the transfer window of their last contract year.
