At last! Torreira confirmed by Arsenal! Torreira Tuesday….

At last we have a final official confirmation that Lucas Torreira is an Arsenal player!

This is what Arsenal.com had to say about him…..

Starting his youth career in Uruguay with I.A 18 Julio and then Montevideo Wanderers, Lucas moved to Italy in 2013 where he joined Pescara. He made his debut there as an 19-year-old in May 2015.

In July 2015, Lucas signed for Sampdoria, but remained at Pescara for the 2015/16 season to gain further first-team experience, making 29 appearances during the campaign.

He returned to Sampdoria before the 2016/17 season and during his time with ‘La Samp’ made 71 appearances, becoming a first-team regular and an integral part of the side.

Lucas, who will wear the number 11 shirt, has been at the club for a medical and will now have a post-World Cup break and join up with the squad in early August.

Unai Emery looks to have made a brilliant choice and Torreira is exactly what we need right now. This is what the new Boss had to say about him: “In Lucas Torreira, we have signed a young player who is a very bright talent in the game. A midfielder with great quality, I have enjoyed watching his performances for Sampdoria in the past two seasons, and we all saw him do very well for Uruguay in the World Cup. He is a young player already with good experience, but who wants to keep on growing. We welcome Lucas to Arsenal and look forward to him joining us soon for pre-season.”

Now we have great things to look forward to, but let us just celebrate right now. Maybe we have bagged the bargain of the summer!

  1. Eventually!!!! And I must say we got one on the transfer market. If we went for him before the World Cup am sure we would have paid more. Am excited for the next season.

    1. Anyone know who identified Torreria?

Curious if he was a Sven choice, or was it Raul? I’d love to know who is picking out these guys.

Whomever it is deserves a mega gold star.

Now just don’t sell Torreria for the next 6-7 years. Ignore the future offers for him. I think he is a key player for chasing titles and trophies.

      1. As well Emery said he was being watched throughout the last couple of seasons. I’d say Mislintat was on him, seems like a type Dortmund would be looking at with the buy out being very reasonable and his ability with the ball being good.

        1. Thanks Break-on-through, good looking out. I was wondering maybe Emery, but he was previously being watched, so Sven indeed it seems.

Add another one for Sven, that’s how it’s done.

      2. I am as pleased as anyone that he has signed BUT it is surely a bit previous to go overboard just yet (“6-7 years”) before he has even played one game in the Prem. Let’s judge him after at least a decent few games in our shirt. However, I DEFINITELY think he will prove a hit. Mind, I only say “I THINK.”

  2. I hope he is as good as Kante when intercepting the threats

Now Arsenal just need a very good winger to compete. Unless Ramsey doesn’t wanna sign, then we would need a new CM

  3. Phew!!? that wasn’t so hard was it???…no more The club doesn’t want to sell or we’ll only sign quality players because the team has cohesion… Lmao???

    1. Guess there was finally a quality player available in our price range. When someone else goes looking that is.

Club has made big changes without spending £150 million in a window.

Torreria is top signing no doubt, but not our best.

Personally I’ll still go with Aubamayang, but maybe Sven turns out to be best value signing.

If Sven does what we all hope in coming years, dude should get a statue, lol.

  4. Brilliant news. All that’s left is a CM if Rambo goes, Same with Mustafi & then the marquee signing of a good winger.

  5. Kev gets it wrong again with the jersey number.. Torriera wears Jersey number 11…just give up kev

    1. Kev is here to update arsenal news like any other member of this forum. He has nothing to justify after all.We need to appreciate him the same way we appreciate news from any other member here.

  6. It’s insane how long we’ve had to wait for a natural DM! So pleased. I had never seen Torreira play before the WC, but he has really impressed me, and will have to be a nailed on starter.

Welcome to Arsenal, and I hope he is a huge success.

    1. I’m expecting him to keep Elneny out of the team (and hopefully the squad) so even if he’s not a world beater then for me he’s already a huge success.

  7. It’s a mistake. We shouldn’t spend on a dm. Attacking is in our DNA! (Sarcasm)

Welcome. We’ve needed someone like you for donkeys ages

  8. What a difference with the new regime with identification, terms, medical, signing instead with respect to Wenger, how much d’you want? 25 Million, we’ll give you 5, ok 20 Million, we’ll give you 7 and so on and so on until somebody else comes in and nick ’em. Fours players in already and hopefully more to come, maybe a marquee signing to surprise us all

    1. Lol so true, unfortunately. We’ve stuck through all that B.A for so long.. It’s really a new dawn *le sigh*

    2. Kenny, Anyone would think you did not like the way Wenger conducted -or rather, blundered through – transfer business, most of which ran for longer than The Mousetrap. And anyone would be right! For anyone, read virtually EVERY Arsenal fan worldwide. I am still overjoyed that this man is gone from our club. Every day I thank my lucky stars he is gone and can do us no further damage.

      1. Jon, we’ve been so stagnate over the last 13 years, under Unai Emery it feels like a new club. It’s certainly a new beginning and I for one cannot wait for the season to start. It may even take a while for everybody to gel so we might have to give him some time but I feel he’s making all the right moves. We can’t ask for more than that.

            1. The 2 of you just kiss the bride already! In all seriousness, I keep checking the calendar if it’s August yet so we can play Man City. Unlike Ornstein, I am pretty confident our transfer window is far from over and I just have a sneaking suspicion that a surprise is waiting for us in the wings.

  9. Finally we have addressed all our weak points in a single window – GK CB RB and a DM….
Now a flair and pacy winger is just the cherry on top. Someone like Lozano or possibly Douglas Costa (since cr7 is joining Juventus)..
    Up gunners

    1. Douglas Costa is a regular starter at Juventus, isn’t he

He would not join Arsenal, despite he will be a fantastic signing

      1. He plays LW, but if Ronaldo joins Juventus, then he’ll be pushed to the bench since Dybala owns the RW

  10. It seems christmas has come early for d gunners and we like that fabled Oliver twist will still keep asking. …. What of a right-footed left winger or left-footed right winger, what of attacking midlefielders to replace cazorla/wilshere and what of……… But its rather amazing d quiet efficiency to Arsenal these days.. I think, we may surprise many this coming season. It would be a rude awakening for most clubs used to play soft belle Arsenal, when they reach out, they would find our newly installed steel. Methinks, we would finish 4th at least, but if everything clicks from d very beginning,we may be in d run for d league. Hope springs eternal

  11. Great great signing! Will transform our midfield. A real DM.
Interesting to see that Seri has gone to West Ham for £17.7 mil aparantly, wtf?

  12. Welcome Lucas Torreira to Arsenal. Let me wish you a successful career ahead of you. Any realistic Gooner will be satisfied with our shopping this season. This shows ambition and a clear determination to do better next season and the seasons to come. There is a limit to how many players we can buy. We can’t buy a whole squad in one season. However what we have is good enough to take us to the next level. I belueve our ambition is to win EPL and even CL. We should not be contented with top four spot. With the players we have, we are capable of mounting a title challenge. Unai Emery will not be the first coach to win EPL in his first season. Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte did it. Let Arsenal March forward now.

  13. Brilliant, really looking forward to seeing a real blood hound in the midfield. He ticks allot of boxes, amazed we got this done without other clubs trying to gatecrash things. The best thing about it all is what is says for the future, identifying a weak area before making a prompt response. Looking at future stars but not just teenagers who may never see the first team. We’re steadying the ship right at this minute but I expect more signings along the lines of this one, down the road. It’d be great if the next CM player we bring in is akin to this one, young, eager, with a bright future and already an international. I always love transfer windows but am really excited going forward.

    1. Other clubs did try to interfere and highjack the deal.

Remember the article where they were speaking to Torreria’s father?

He said other clubs were interested, but he said Torreria had already given his word to Arsenal, and they were very happy with the terms.

Love this kid already! His word actually means something, nice to hear in world of sports.

Jaws nickname is funny. Like the James Bond villain, except about 2 feet shorter, and twice as aggressive.

      1. My , how you exaggerate. He is only 18 inches shorter. But I love your post and am only teasing you.

          1. Torreira probably had to waig until he was earning decent money to afford braces (LOL).
I agree with Durand, that it is edifying to find a player who has ethics and stands by his word. Credit to his parents (his father spoke well) for bringing him up so well.
Welcome to the Arsenal Lucas Torreira; wishing you an injury free and successful Arsenal career.

  14. You see this is what we all arsenal fans, have been clamoring for years. I have always believed Arsene Wenger was the problem. Am finally convinced now that Emery, has got a lot of surprise for us all. I just can’t wait…hihihihihi

  15. This transfer scared me a bit, we spent ages to get this deal wrapped up and over the line that I was honestly scared that Schavski or Liverpool would come in and offer UCL to pinch him at the last second…

Well done AFC for getting this deal done.
Happy gooners… happy gooners everywhere 😀

I’ve always said that the real mistake about Xhaka was not signing Kante at the same time, not instead. If Torreira is going to be our resilient energetic tough tackler then Xhaka and Rambo could offer so much more to the team.

I’m really excited for the EPL to start ^.^

    1. I agree with you on Ramsey but not Xhaka.. he was in a similar position for Switzerland where Behrami was doing the dirty work and yet Xhaka did nothing

        1. He has had a lot of bad games for us but he has been left exposed for us, our team hasn’t covered his weakness, we needed a better team to cover each other and help each other excel.

Considering Xhaka has just signed a new deal… I guess Emery has plans.

I got no idea how well Emery can get Xhaka to play, he may continue to disappoint… he may excel with a manager who has a gameplan and coaches the players at their roles.

          Shouldn’t we trust Emery?
Or do you just wish to be fanatical about your point of view? Support the club and new manager or be fanatical about your own perspective only?

You do this a lot with our players Jon, Xhaka is just rubbish and Bellerin should be thrown out the door, is their a player you feel has been let down by poor coaching and could become a big player still?

Or should we throw the whole team out and start afresh?

          1. You make a good point, in general, as I think the whole squad has been let down , big time by WENGER. But in Bellerin and Xhaka I see not enough intelligence and football nous in either. Bellerin has speed only and cannot tackle, head , mark, stay in position( he is appallingly out of position, time and time again) or even cross the ball accurately more than very occasionally. He is weedy and outmuscled so often. Xhaka is slow of thought, of pace, poor awareness of opponents and his only useful skill is a long cross field pass when weaker opponents stand off him and let him play. He has a hard but not that accurate shot and it adds up to very little for the money we paid. We should sell and could replace him with far better for the money he would fetch. Both players have had two dreadful seasons and even I CANNOT BLAME WENGER FOR EVERYTHING. Almost everything but not quite all.

      1. If Xhaka does fail under Emery, at least it isn’t a big signing who will block AMN progression. AMN could see a real chance at staking a claim in the starting lineup and push himself a bit harder.

We also got that 19 year old as well who can play DM and also played B2B.

I do feel that Xhaka could be the ideal player to use as an obstacle to push the prospects, he isn’t a mega signing or top WC player. He was highly rated before we got him so with a bit of luck Emery can get that side out of him while the kids push forward, force Xhaka to step up in the process as the kids will be nipping at his heels.

  16. Welcome to arsenal…. Torreira
    Ramsey out
I need winger ( dembele or draxler )

    4-3-3
    Leno/Cech
    Kolasinac. Sokratis. Mustafi. Bellerin
    Xhaka/elneny. Torreira/Gauzi.
    Ozil/Mkhitaryan
    Aubameyang/Iwobi.Lacazete/Welbeck.Dembele/Perez.

    1. Anyone who wants Elneny, Xhaka, Iwobi or Welbeck anywhere near a professional football team cannot be of sound mind. Better stick to the plastic cutlery.

  17. Or… Ramsey out
    Replace : Seri

    4-3-3
    Leno
    Kolasinac Sokratis Mustafi Bellerin
    Seri. Torreira. Xhaka.
    Oziel. Mkhitaryan
    Aubameyang

  18. As new signings come in we can see some strategy for the now and for the future.

    18 yrs – 24yrs
    Bellerin, Holding, Cambers,
    Mavropanos, R-Adelaide, M-Niles, Torriera
    (Guendouzi?)

    25 yrs – 29 yrs
    Leno, Papas, Mustafi, Kolasinac,
    Ramsay, Mkhit, Ozil, Xhaka, Elneny,
    Auba, Lacazette, Welbeck

    30 yrs +
    Cech, Ospina, Koscielny, Monreal, Lichtsteiner

Possibly a few more (winger and striker) young talents can be added (Sven + Unai need to get their thinking caps on) to work as understudy to the likes of Ozil and Auba before taking over the reins. But none of these purchases need to be immediate. I think the squad is ready for the season ahead – even with a few sales (expected)

Who would you like to see come in and go out now?
