Atletico Madrid wants to end the Julian Alvarez saga once and for all after confirming their intention not to negotiate with Barcelona over the attacker, leaving Arsenal with room to sign him.
If Alvarez decides today that he wants to leave Atletico for the Gunners, Arsenal is ready to send a bid to Spain for his signature, and Atletico will discuss the offer.
The problem is that Alvarez has only been interested in a move to Barcelona and has made it clear that the Spanish club is the team he wants to join in this window.
Barcelona are also interested, but Atletico Madrid has been annoyed by their approach and has vowed not to allow Alvarez to leave the club for the Catalans.
Alvarez faces decision over future
There does not seem to be a chance for the two clubs to repair their relationship this summer, but Atletico wants to know where Alvarez wants to play this season.
According to Sky Sports, they have given him an ultimatum to decide whether he will accept a move to Arsenal or stay with their team this season.
Alvarez has been told to make his decision and get back to the club by Sunday as Atletico looks to make some progress regarding the building of their squad.
The situation puts the attacker in a difficult position, with his preferred destination seemingly clear but Atletico unwilling to negotiate with Barcelona.
Arsenal waits for Alvarez’s response
Arsenal now has an opportunity to enter the race if Alvarez decides that he is willing to move to the Premier League. The Gunners are prepared to make an offer, and Atletico would be willing to discuss the proposal if the player chooses that option.
However, the final decision rests with Alvarez, who must now choose between staying at Atletico and considering a move to Arsenal.
With a deadline of Sunday reportedly set by Atletico, the situation could develop quickly. The Madrid club wants clarity over the attacker’s plans so that they can continue preparing their squad for the season ahead.
For Arsenal, Alvarez’s decision could determine whether they have a genuine opportunity to sign one of the most sought-after attackers in Europe. For now, they must wait for the player to decide whether he is prepared to leave Spain for England.

Alvarez has akready stated he’s not interested in returning to the PL so this really is becoming farcical.
We could capitalise on a PL winner, FA cup winner, Community Shield winner and CL Finalist with six years of PL experience and a fully fledged Brazilian international player by offering him a new contract and a pen to sign it…but Martinelli doesn’t seem to fit the bill!!
By all accounts he’s a headless chicken with no footballing brain who’s worth around £55,000,000 – but let’s keep banging our heads on a brick wall called Alvarez!!

To call ANY professional footballer, especially one with the credentials of Martinelli, someone lacking a football brain who runs around like a headless chicken is being childish in the extreme Reggie and that’s how you’ve described Martinelli.
His market value is exactly what someone is willing to pay and the reported bid is around the £55,000,000 mark.

No that is his sell on fee. He is valued at 38 mil. And how I describe Martinelli (and I am not on my own) is my opinion. It doesn’t make me silly. I presume if Arsenal felt different, they wouldn’t be trying to sell him. He doesn’t have that many takers either. That is Why?
38 mil is his transfer market value as per transfermarket, which clubs use a a guide as well as being open to all to view. What we sell him for is what we sell him for.
I have always thought Leon is just trolling when he always vehemently insults Berta. I’m beginning to side with him especially if we sell Martinelli without a replacement. That would be a sacrilegious travesty and I’ll sincerely begin to think that Berta doesn’t know what he’s doing.

I’d agree with anyone who feels that the window feels a bit flat right now. A faux pas with Martinelli’s situation and what appears to be 2 high profile targets preferring to give us a miss.
Until the window closes, I’m prepared to give Berta the benefit of the doubt based on last summer. That said, I don’t know if it’s a case of the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle is waiting on movement elsewhere. There is the usual scurry of activity as the last hour of the window remains open to last minute signings. Like everyone else, I’m hoping for the best
Correct Sue, lets wait while the end. In any case Martinelli, Jesus and all the other players we are trying to release are still here. So our bench next season could be made up of Jesus, Martinelli and Viera. I doubt it will but lets wait and see. I have said all along Alvarez does not want to come, so we may be reading recycled news as far as he is concerned. He isn’t Martinellis replacement anyway.
Plus apparently there is a Spanish rule Alvarez can use, to cancel his contract with AM move to Barcelona and compensation for AM for doing that could be less than a transfer fee, they are asking. Euefa and any footballing body couldn’t stop it or do anything about it, it is a Spanish law. I am sure both parties do not want to go down that route, so, I am not sure that this has ended. And I am sure, we must be aware of that. I doubt we would waste time and energy flogging a dead horse.

Let’s be honest last season with the signings of Eze ,zum and Madeuke for a sum of 200 million plus wages wasn’t exactly amazing work ,not one of those players is in the starting 11 if every one is fit .
If Berta keeps on being as woeful as this, the law of averages means the team will eventually drop on both quality and performance over time. I just hope Leon is not right about him cos this Alvarez saga may just be his biggest undoing
Spot on Dan. I’ve not been impressed with our attack transfers. It is evident since last season we need massive upgrade in LW forward and the club could get so far only tzolis, no disrespect but tzolis should be our 2nd choice by the club standard, I know the club is trying
to sign a top Lwinger but we always seem to take forever or never to sign and we get bullied by other clubs sometimes. We should be an elite club by now and attractive to top players
The signing of zubi quiet expose the club and question their ability in recognising a a top baller, zubi never strike me as one ever since before we sign him. But thank God for Lewis skelly and their signing of Bruno to undo their wrong coz we all know the club wont sign Bruno if zubi has not been looking like a flop
Madueke is looking like zubi too( not so technical) and soon IF he doesn’t step up, either max or nwaneri will take his place.
I was really happy when we signed eze coz I feel he’s a top player but he seems kind of nervous playing for us, not the fearless eze I knew in palace, I hope he’ll get his mojo back
So is it that arteta, berta and the club are adept in recognising and negotiating top defenders transfer but inept at getting top attackers coz we really know how to wrap up defender deals and in time and all the defenders they signed have been a hit and not to mention raya, the greatest hit of them all after saliba.
I only wish for the club to do much better in attack department where we lack. While the club and arteta has my total support and respect coz I’m still celebrating our epl trophy and sometimes I don’t care what happens this season.
