BBC confirm Arsenal approach for Jonny Evans

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are expecting some imminent activity in the transfer market, and it is absolutely certain that we are in dire need of some new defenders as we have been shipping an incredible amount of goals this season which has left us with the worst goal difference by some distance in the Top Six.

We all know that the very slow Per Mertesacker is retiring at the end of the season, and Koscielny and Monreal are both ageing and suffering from regular injuries as well so we need a strong man to help reinforce that area urgently. The Gunners were said to have made a last minute bid to get Jonny Evans from West Brom in the summer after Man City had had a lower bid rejected, and now the BBC is reporting that both clubs have both approached the Baggies again after Alan Pardew announced that a sale could be approved.

Their BBC report said: Arsenal and Manchester City have made contact with West Brom about the potential signing of Jonny Evans.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger may be willing to ask his club to pay £25m to take the 30-year-old Northern Ireland international to Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have the advantage of knowing the Baggies are interested in their 32-year-old full-back Mathieu Debuchy, who wants regular first-team football.

Wenger has always maintained that strong defenders can always have longer careers than midfielders and forwards, but do you think it would be a good deal to buy the 30 year-old Evans right now for £25m ?

  1. If we sign Evans, then we really have hit rock bottom…if we’re not already there! City may have an interest in him as well, but only as a squad player, whereas he’ll be a BIG NAME SIGNING at Arsenal!

I’m so fed up of signing ‘cast offs’ off our rivals (indirectly in Evans’s case). Will this nightmare never end!!

    1. 30 yr old Jonny Evans defender for bottom of the league West brom
      For
29 yr old world class alexis sanchez

      Yep… Exactly what I thought too!….

      MONEY WELL SPENT

      Come on u effffingggg GOOONNERRRSSS

  2. Evans is certainly not the marquee signing everyone wants but he would make our back three better. But the main reason I wouldn’t mind Evans is to let Holding go out on loan. He’s got huge potential but seems to be regressing this year and regular play for a Championship side would be good for him.

    1. The Greek kid we signed is more talented than both Holding and Chambers.

English players are usually massively overrated.

    1. Sue.
You will be more than “OH whoopee”
when you find out Evans is not the only
ex WBA signing Arsenal are going to make.
You all realise of course the Arsenal board has
      lined up a new Manager.
The one and only ……….. drum roll …… Tony Pulis.
      Whhhoooopppeeeee 🙂

  3. This all smacks of desperation. I reckon the dinosaur is doing this to try to deflect criticizm from the poor performances.

  4. Wenger has no Ambition other than to remain Arsenal manager and continue earning £9 million per year.

I gurantee Sir Alex would not have been manager of United 13 years without a trophy. He would have been sacked a long time earlier.

  5. Honestly if there was a volcano near me.
    I’d put on a helmet…
    Knee pads….
    Grab a sword

An jump in the eye of that b####
    Like wenger f### youuuuuuuuuu

  6. We’re now selling valencia coquelin
    For 10 mill
When he has 3.5 years left on his contract.
In this inflated market we are being robbed by everyone ffs

They give us not good enough mustafi for 35 we give them Gabriel and coquelin for a combined 20 mill

    Up the volcano I go

  7. Arsenal has struggled to build a
    top Central defense recently.
    Mertesacker retires in May.
Koscielney has said his archilles is shot.
    Vermaelen was not replaced until
a panic buy of Gabriel for 16m.
But Gabriel failed and was sold for 9m.
Holding a 2m cheapie has struggled.
Mustafi 30 mill was then bought but almost went back to Serie A in the summer.
Bielik another 2.4 m cheapie is still developing
Mavropanos yet another 2m cheapie has just been signed.
Chambers was bought for 16 m to replace Sagna
was sent out on loan is now back and can play CB/RB but is he good enough?
Carl Jenkinson on loan or injured 3 seasons is back and out of contract in June.
May be he is the answer at CB or is he just being put in the window for a sale?
Monreal is 32 in Feb. Should he be resigned?
Debuchi 33 in July was bought for 16m has been paid 16m in salary.
He has spent almost all his time injured or on loan making
just 8 PL appearances at 4mill per PL game played.
Ca we keep Bellerin out of Barca’s clutches?
If Arsenal is going have a rebuilt defense who should do the rebuilding?
Arsene Weger who is leaving soon or the new long term Manager
who after all will be managing the rebuilt squad?
What if Arsene “is” the new long term manager?
May be there is no such thing as long term managers any more?
Maybe 3-4 years is the new long term?
So many questions. Not so many answers.

  8. The problem is the manager is one with a gigantic ego who thinks his way
is the best/only way. Unforunately it has not worked the last ten/fifteen years
and aint going to work until he is fired.
Instead of going direct his tippy/tappy passing game gives time for defences to
mass and foil and a quick break through and the gunners have conceded a agoal.
No matter who he signs, the name of the game is scoring asap and even with wc players
    aint going to work.

  9. We are in trouble without buying quality.

Bye Sanchez… good memories… understand you don’t want to rot here in this situation.

  10. arsenal board re take fans for granted. but I can’t blame them we never take serious action that shows that club belong to us not the board.what arsenal board doing on transfer now is deity GAM,imaging tell us their price lemar $90m last reason they playing on our intelligence u can com on d last mins to a club who have sold most of their top player & Price $9ml and expected them to say yes, that news is a fake well planned it will continue until we wake up.
if we give fund & it was not us for us we meet to cut fund.
its not the time to say Wenger out,its time for all fans to map out for four or five matchs no buy ticket don’t go to Emirate to watch, watch on ur TV..if the board re not disppln they can’t b humble.

  11. im not defending Wenger, but Evans is not a bad buy, if we get a top young defender this summer like Jimenes

    1. kos mustaffi jimenes evans
+ greek kid, holding, bieik on loans
      its not bad
the question is if we have a better option than evans this winter?
