We all know that the Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin likes his fashion shows and being an icon to youngsters. He has also spoken out about homosexuality in football and misogyny in society, so he is promoting equality and understanding in the future for everyone in the world.
A lot of people think he should just concentrate on football and stop having such a presence on social media but he wants to be an example to young people and if he promotes equality I can’t see anything to say against it. But he wants to improve himself as well and most Arsenal fans would say he has improved since he has started being trained by Unai Emery, and it seems that he is embracing the new regime as well as how society is improving. This interview he has had with the Arsenal website explains how he looks at the way life changes…
He said:”I think change is always scary for a lot of people. People think that because we are living in a certain way for the last 20 years, we should be living in the same way in the 20 years after, and it is not like this. The world keeps evolving, society keeps solving problems to get new ones. There’s things that you could say 20 years ago that you can’t say anymore. I think people are afraid of all this change.”
So it seems he is happy with the way the culture has changed in the world as well as at Arsenal, and he is not against trying to lead his followers to be more open in the brave new world. He continued: “It always takes one person to raise this issue in order to change. Like it happened with Martin Luther King, you know, when so many people must have been like ‘this guy is crazy’, but then thanks to people like him, as a society, we are where we are today and we’re still not even halfway to where we should be. It’s important to have people like that in order to progress and to be better people and to have a better world.”
I’m not sure if he sees himself as a messiah, but he is certainly not scared of telling people what is wrong with the world, as he told about the intolerance of gays in football, and the insults he got for his fashion sense. We need more tolerance in the world as well as football.
It is great that he is talking out although some people think he should shut up. He is an example to the young Arsenal fans and if he preaches tolerance and equality, surely that is a good thing?
