Bernardo Silva is trending for the wrong reasons again after the Portuguese star nearly injured Martin Odegaard when their countries met in the Nations League last night.

During one passage of play, Odegaard released the ball, yet Silva left his boot in late on the Arsenal man, an action that could have caused him a serious injury. The incident has attracted considerable attention, particularly because Odegaard had already played the ball before Silva made contact.

Silva Faces Criticism Over Challenge

Arsenal will be furious when they review the incident, while many fans and neutrals have been discussing Silva’s challenge and criticising his actions. The incident has also brought renewed attention to similar challenges involving the Portuguese midfielder during his time in the Premier League.

Silva has been involved in several contentious incidents during his career, and his challenge on Odegaard has once again raised questions about the nature of his tackle. The midfielder appeared to know what he had done, and repeated viewings of the incident have led to further criticism of his actions.

The challenge was particularly concerning for Arsenal because Odegaard has dealt with injuries previously and will want to avoid another setback. Leaving a boot in late after an opponent has released the ball can carry the risk of causing an injury, which made the incident even more frustrating for those watching.

Silva Refuses to Apologise

Silva was given an opportunity to address the incident after the match and could have apologised to the Arsenal captain. However, he did not offer an apology when asked about the challenge.

Instead, Silva dismissed the incident when discussing it after the game. His response has added further attention to an incident that had already attracted criticism from supporters and neutrals.

The Portuguese midfielder did not appear concerned about the challenge when questioned, and his response has since become another talking point surrounding the incident.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Silva said: “It’s football, my friend.”

The response is likely to frustrate Arsenal supporters, particularly given the nature of the challenge and the potential consequences it could have had for Odegaard. The incident has now become another controversial moment involving Silva and an Arsenal player.

  1. That was violent conduct from Silva. Clearly intending to cause Ødegaard pain.

He didn’t even pretend to play the ball. Just went in for the player, had plenty of time to change direction, and instead chose to go in hard and kick both of Ødegaard’s legs from behind.

100% should have been a red.

I don’t have much faith in him being punished after the fact either, the rat has been getting away with cynical attacks like this for years…

  2. Encapsulates a Man City player. Cheating rat. Odegaard has more EPL titles than him I can see why he’s so angry.

  3. Thesedays City affiliated men are not normal. Guehi and Oreilly gifted Spain goals. Bernardo also feels the shame is exposed and the ensuing implications make Arsenal an easy title winner.
If I were a Paparazzi I try to uncover the whereabouts and body languages of Guardiola. They’re devastated this is why after yesterday’s game both Haaland and Dias were in a lengthy chat on the pitch. That City fan who infamously drank from Arsenal bottle where and how is he?

  4. Let the team handle things on the pitch, the ref obviously did not; easy call to make, how he didn’t show red is astounding.

Treat Silva the same, give him a few kicks, leave a little something on it. Each time, mutter “It’s football my friend,” let him try it on for size.

    1. Or maybe of the old Zinedine Zidane > Marco Materazzi treatment, you reckon?

I’d say two wrongs don’t make a right, but in Silva’s case, it’s hard to argue.

  5. How much did Man City pay you to do that Silva?
And no that’s not football, that’s planned to do harm.
