Arsenal’s pursuit of Bruno Guimarães appears to have reached its final stages after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano delivered perhaps his strongest indication yet that the Brazilian midfielder is on his way to the Emirates.
Romano posted on Sunday afternoon that Newcastle United have already started planning for life after their captain, with new head coach Matthias Jaissle involved in the search for a replacement.
The key line from Romano’s update will undoubtedly excite Arsenal supporters:

That wording feels particularly significant. Rather than speaking about ongoing negotiations or a deal edging closer, Romano now states that Guimarães is expected to become an Arsenal player shortly, suggesting the transfer is now viewed as a matter of time rather than uncertainty.
All signs continue to point towards Arsenal
This latest update follows a whirlwind 48 hours in which multiple reports have indicated Arsenal and Newcastle have agreed a package worth around £70 million plus £10 million in add-ons (The Times), with a medical expected this coming Monday. The Brazilian also reportedly missed Newcastle training on Friday as the move accelerated.
The BBC had already reported there was growing expectation that Guimarães would join Arsenal after making it clear he wanted the move, while Arsenal have become increasingly confident of completing one of the biggest transfers of the summer. Romano’s latest comments only strengthen that feeling.
A huge statement of intent
If the deal is completed in the coming days, Arsenal will be adding one of the Premier League’s outstanding midfielders to a squad already strengthened this summer.
The Brazilian’s arrival would hand Mikel Arteta another elite option capable of operating both as a deep-lying midfielder and in a more advanced role, while adding leadership, experience and proven Premier League quality to the champions’ squad.

What a massive signing
This feel very familiar when Arsenal tried to sign Isak. Pictures in an Arsenal shirt and Romano being paid by agents to feed the narrative.
Whilst there’s every chance Bruno leaves for a big fee, the bookies have literally just changes their odds on him staying to 4-6 and leaving 3-1.
Who knows what will happen, but if everyone is so confident, throw your money at this……the bookies are always wrong!
Loving this bit of business. It should be £80M he’s that good, and likely 5 years still at the top level ahead of him. Watching him in World Cup, he did catch the eye in an unconvincing team, operating as an extra 10 when opponents sat deep – which a lot of our opponents do!
Where it says in the article “takes our midfield to another level” an awful lot of social media and papers talk use the same thinking. But how many fixtures did we have last season, how many international and World Cup fixtures did many players, Rice, Saka, Saliba, Gabriel, etc play on top of that? It’s no wonder they’re broken, exhausted physically and mentally. It’s plain wrong if they are playing through pain game after game. Instead of presenting it as what starting eleven now looks like, in reality it might be more up to date to realise that best first 11 will rarely start together. The way to look at it these days, to be serial winners of trophy’s, back to back Champions as well as go deep in three cup competitions, it’s not just merely “squad depth” – it’s the quality of the main rotation options.
With his 39 shirt on (his Dads taxi number) Bruno plays either 6 or 8. He’s not being signed to replace Zoob or Ode who now leave the club – I’m in the tent who feel, if injury free, Ode and Zoob can have great seasons – Bruno’s being signed as the quality rotation option we were missing at 8 and 6 last season, so those players and Rice don’t have to be on team sheet when tired or play through pain and niggles, or rushed back.
If all fit, Rice, Bruno, Ode, Merino, Skelly, perm 2 8’s from them depending on whose turn to take a breather, or what the plan is that match – Hull and Liverpool are two different plans required. And Bruno and Rice can give Zoob breather too. Rice at 6, Bruno and Ode at 8’s. Does that sound interesting to you?

For example, the way “transfer media” push it, just looked at some manure fan site, if Bruno arrives at Arsenal Skelly is now much more likely to move to Manure because Bruno would be in his way for game time, so it’s a massive bit of good news for Man Utd. But gone are the days of certain starters every single game, hence Rice and Saka struggling in World Cup, it really is quality rotation options if you want to be serial winners.
Not so long ago, Bruno would be going to Man Utd in his quest to win silverware in his career, whilst Arsenal would be signing the Chelsea reject. Manure fans need to reflect on how the times are a changing.
Newcastle bought Guimaraes from Lyon for 40m and would make 40m gain after 5 years service when Arsenal pay 80m. At this WC he made 4 assists but missed a crucial pen when Brazil were eliminated by Norway. He speaks 4 languages Spanish French English and Portuguese which makes at vantage point to be a captain for every cosmopolitan team
