As thrilling as this summer window has been, the momentum may soon slow, at least temporarily.
Sporting director Andrea Berta has delivered an exciting start to the transfer market. Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, Noni Madueke, and the soon-to-be-confirmed Cristhian Mosquera have all contributed to a strong opening for Arsenal.
Viktor Gyökeres is also expected to arrive, with the club having reportedly finalised an agreement in the deal with Sporting Lisbon.
It is the kind of summer transfer window Gooners have long waited for.
Berta must now turn to sales
With major investments already made, Berta must now prove he is equally capable when it comes to outgoing transfers.
Arsenal need to recoup funds to balance the books and remain compliant with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations. Having already spent heavily, sales will now be essential to ensure the club’s wider summer plans stay on track.
Once the deals for Mosquera and Gyökeres are over the line, fans may have to wait a little while before another major arrival is confirmed.
Fringe players could make way
Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu have already departed, but several other players could follow. Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fábio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Reiss Nelson (who is attracting Premier League interest) are all potential departures.
There is still clear intent to add a creative midfielder, with Eberechi Eze and Xavi Simons both being tracked. However, any move for either player may be delayed until significant funds are raised.
A new playmaker is seen by many as the final piece of the puzzle. If secured, it could complete what would be a near-perfect summer window.
With Mikel Arteta desperate to finally lift the Premier League title after three near misses, he is now closing in on the dream squad he envisioned when he first took charge.

I don’t see why further signings need to be delayed, as long as players, who no longer figure in MA’s plans, are sold before the start of the season…. am I wrong in that thinking?
That’s what the article is trying to point at. There need to be some sales before another signing comes in
Actually I’m with Ken1945, we don’t need to sell before we buy, with the terms we’ve already negotiated with current purchases we’ve money to spare to buy first and sell later. We are apparently well within the PSR constraints so strike while the irons hot I say, get Eze and it’s a brilliant window.

Why can’t we, for example, sign Eze and Rodrygo tomorrow and THEN start the process of selling players who don’t feature in MA’s plans?

We’ve been told that Zinchenko, Trossard, Nelson, Vieria have had enquires made about their availability, so there will be buyers for them…. just do it after we know what players have been signed.
Liverpool haven’t stopped signing players, nor have manure or the spuds and we’ve already let Tierney and Tomiyasu go.
Neither do I. We should stay very active for opportunities to strengthen. A few players we’re interested in are on the market still…
We know there’s a market for all our sellable players this window, and they’re not going to give us a huge return anyway… Our finds will be coming from other sources this season.
Agree with Ken1945. Get Eze then concentrate on selling. It’s 6 & two3s. Long as its done does not matter which way round.
Question is, how do you know if you have a buyer and how much that said buyer (if we had one) would pay? You have to balance the books.
👍 Jimmymac1960. Specific timing with regard to individual sales or purchases is most important as long as they are both accomplished during the window. Of course the rewards of such a strategy can only be had if the financial flexibility to risk ultimately not selling enough (PSR difficulty) or purchasing enough (a better squad) is present.
I think we need to get in 75 to 100 mil in sales, to keep us going without hand cuffs on.
Is there a “big” sale?
Only one I can think of is Martinelli which is a huge call.
Right. I don’t see us selling him this window, if that was a serious consideration we’d already know.
Trossard £30 million, Zinchenko £10 million, Vieria £20 million, Nelson £20 million, Lokonga £5 million, while Tierney and Tomiyasu are already off the books.
Personally, I think 30 mil at his age is pushing it for Trossard. I don’t see who would pay 20 mil for Nelson, especially when he has been realistically for sale for that since 2 years ago. Viera, not a cat in hells chance at 20 mil. But Personally, I think Zinchenko is worth more, not a lot but more. I just don’t see, who the buyers will be. Their wages are a problem to get over as well.
Zinchenko is going into the last year of his contract, so £10m is about right.
Agree on Trossard, I think he’ll go for about £20m.
Looks like Nelson might be going back out on loan to Fulham.
Carlos Cuesta is now at Parma and apparently interested in Fabio for close to £20m.
I would get rid of Kai Havertz before I even look at Lukonga or Riess Nelson.

They forget how much Liverpool wanted him. Teams in Europe are lining up waiting for a slip up from arsenal. They’re ready to use his talent.

Every player!!! I don’t see who is going to pay 150 for Isak. I think he is more likely to get a big payrise.
Good at selling means getting players and their wages off of our books and not overvaluing them.
Selling 1 player at an over priced value and not being able to move on the next 4 that need to leave is not a success!
Id mich rather get a lower price and get them off our books then rip up more contracts while unused players rot on the fringes.
Unfortunately some of our fan base would rather see us throw money away than accept a lower offer for aplayer we won’t use
Problem is, we don’t really have lots of sellable players that we can afford to lose at the moment . My prediction is that it will take at least another season to reach the level where we can sell players for big money.
Winning something will be key. Big trophies tend to inflate the prices of all the players in a squad that wins. If you win the Premier League, you can sell your fringe players for stupid money. We’ve seen Liverpool and City sell unproven or average players for good money on the back end of successful seasons. We need to get there.
The other avenue we need to exploit is the academy. As fans, we like to romanticize with the idea of academy kids joining our first team. Truth is, only a few will ever make it with us- probably less than 1%. That doesn’t mean we can’t benefit from the academy- Chelsea & City do. There are those who won’t make it with us but will become pro for lesser teams/leagues. We can profit from their sales. £3m here, £ 5m there, it all adds up to a lot of money in the end, if it can be done consistently.
100% agree. Selling a first team player (like Martinelli) now and buying a new shiny toy would not necessarily guarantee us more success. It WOULD certainly end up costing us a packet – potentially restricting future flexibility in the market. If the club believes it’s necessary though…
The first team and backups are essentially complete and gelling for the next season now. Maybe we get one more player (Eze, yezze!). With the Champions League, another campaign where we are set to be competitive, and the overall improvements in financials we’re seeing, we’ll rake it in this season. That gives us fresh opportunities for big spending next summer. With the way Liverpool are behaving right now, we’ll need it.

I fully agree with your proposals. The reality is that we have to be both rational and ruthless in the selection of players for sale. Nobody will be unreasonable to select Martinelli or Havertz for sale. However, those you have selected could as well be sold. It is not about sentimental reasons but prudence. Trossard is a good player but given a choice between him and Aberechi Eze, who do you take? If indeed we get rid of the players you mentioned, we shall be able to balance the books.
I believe all will be sold except Jesus because he’s out till December.

Arsenal should offload fring players like svckenko, Fabio vera,lokonga,kiwor and leave players like trosad, and martineli this give Arsenal the required dept we need to challenge on all fronts we should we lost our to Liverpool on the league because of injuries and drawing and loosing matches we were supposed to have won.
I have to admit that we have owners not investing in our club 🤫😎
