Can Ozil’s contract and Arsenal’s new strike force lead us back to the Champions League?

Arsenal have made three massive signings this January in Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan and I include Mesut Ozil, because even Arsene Wenger considers him to be a crucial new signing. “It is,” the Boss said. “because many predicted that he will not commit and not sign for us. Overall it’s good news for us. When you look at the transfer market today, the fact that you can keep a player of that calibre is of course good news. The fact that he committed for a longer period shows as well that he will have to do that as well on the pitch and lead the team.”

So the second half of the season will see us with a brand new strike force, with Mkhitaryan providing the crosses for Aubameyang to score, and with Ozil as the playmaker giving the pinpoint passes to both of our front men who will be hopefully waiting in the box to make use of them! So with Ozil’s role as the provide and having a massive new pay rise, does Wenger expect the German to take much more responsibility? “Yes of course.” Wenger said. “He has committed his future to the club in a period where we are in a trick position on that front, in qualifying for the Champions League. You expect that he becomes the leader and takes the responsibility to lead the team to success.”

So we should have a much more potent goal-scoring potential, and as long as our defence can sort themselves out we should start raking in the points again, but can we make up enough ground to get back into the Top Four?

  1. You’ve been watching us recently, right? …. I’m just baffled how you think our problem is related to our forwards and not our utter pony defence….we couldn’t beat a one legged man in an arse kicking contest

  2. In all honesty top 4 is not in our hands, we have to try win all remaining games and hope 2 teams slip up on a few occasions.

So no, I don’t think we will make top 4.

Maybe next year if we get in some proper defenders.

  3. No I don’t think so. Carabao cup and Europa league would be great given the circumstances. Not Europa is not piece of,cake, and we can’t even use Aubameyang.

Hopefully in the summer we will get defense sorted out with a GK, CB and CDM.

Oh and Wenger leaving of course.

    1. We will never again get Top 4 until Wenger is replaced. He has proved he is incapable of coaching a team to provide consistent results to challenge for the big prizes.Even AKB’s can’t be blind enough to see this-can they?

  4. Arsenal really need penetrations from the wings, something that LMAO cannot offer. Maybe Wenger is content with Maitland-Niles, Nelson and Welbeck, if he plans to use them as wingers, but it would not work if he does not change the way his team plays.

If Wenger cannot adjust his system to match his players’ strengths and weaknesses, they might as well forget about going back to Champions League.

    1. I think Auba or Laca must accept a certain number of games starting from the bench. Fitness wise for freshness/sharpness it’s a fair tactical plan. Also when we are winning it’d be a bit naive to keep Auba Laca Mesut and Mkhi all on together.

The midfield battle will suffer a bit if we keep going with them. If we’re choosing between Wilshere Xhaka and Ramsey it only worsens. Whichever two of them you pick translates into six attacking minded players.

Not to mention our rampaging right back and our goal-scoring left back slash centre back.

I believe we need to go with three midfield centre (if the four mentioned up top do start). But they’ll need to get instruction to be told not to get caught out venturing forward. Ramsey and Wilshere can be decent scrappers, but I’d worry that it’d only be a matter of time before the get all caught up in our attacking display.

It’s going to be interesting to see what the hell we’re gonna look like.

  5. We have no choice but to go all out for the Europa league. Its the only hope we have of Champions League Football next year.
Would like to see ANM replace Xhaka in defensive midfield and see how he does for a couple of games, if not then why not consider Monreal or Kolasinac there instead?

  6. This window marked an important phase but it’s just a step in the right direction, nothing more. In particular, love him or hate him, Ozil’s signing should help the summer recruitment team drive.

But we still have arguably six out of seven midfielders whose best position is as a number 10. A defense that is all over the place including a once great keeper who will need Federer type revival to stay as first choice.

I expect that we will keep on bumping along this year as we’ve been doing. Hopefully with a typical late season surge and a cup. But in all honesty I’d trade a cup to see the emergence of AMN as our DM for the next ten years.

  7. I am just imagining what a more tactical coach will do with a midfield of ozil and miki, and attack of auba and laca.

    1. He might recruit a winger, a DM and a CB to support the 182 million LMAO. But Arsenal have bought a lot in this season, they might want to save their money to purchase one or two players in the next window.

  8. Some of you may have heard that Auba missed the most chances of any striker in the Bundesliga.

Well, Chelsea’s Michy just played his first Dortmund game and scored 2 and assisted 1 — pretty much a normal thing if you’re surrounded by excellent and DIRECT passers in a mid-level league.

So, I still feel we overpaid for Aubameyang, given he’ll be 30 next June and that his finishing or technique in general is not as good as Lacazette’s. His speed would only make a difference with another manager who prefers a more direct play.

    1. He missed the most chances yet scored over 20goals in all competitions, even when he wanted out of the club. Can you ever satisfy some fans?
We have signed PEA, he is yet to kick a ball and we’re already complaining. Would you rather have signed Michy?
We’ve taken a step in the right direction. Our defenders just need to regain their confidence and discipline. Nacho, Kos, and Mustafi need to buckle up. Maybe with a potent strike force (LMAO), there’ll be less pressure on the defence and we can outscore our opponents. At least until the summer….

      1. It might work out for the better. Lacazette takes less shots than most any other top goalscorer, he likes to make sure. Whereas Aubameyang likes to try many efforts, like most greedy strikers you’ll see (Salas / Suarez / Aguero). We have two players here that if given the chances they will not let us down all that often. It’s about time we have real quality up top and now when we get an injury to our main CF it does not necessarily mean a disaster. Nor does a crisis of confidence necessarily mean impotence up top.

      2. Well said Namo, too many fans are so negative, this is a new era for the Gunners, let’s see how this season pans out, I don’t expect too much. Next year we can really give it a go with a couple of good signings who knows? For me I’m over slagging us off, and I certainly don’t care what they get paid, as long as we play the way we know we can ( Palace 4 zip in 22 mins ) I’ll be a happy fan.

      3. Yeah, but Lacazette scored almost 30 with less chances in la Ligue 1, yet struggles now.

True, Auba is faster, which could make a huge difference, but let’s hope Wenger is still able to change how the team plays and do it well.

Otherwise, I’m happy with the Auba deal, despite feeling about 10 mill. was overspent.

On the other hand, keeping Giroud and buying a DMinstead of would probably bring more points.

We’ll know in the summer: if Wenger doesn’t buy both a top DM as well as good CB, it means we’re back in the same waters.

  9. Wenger was speaking about the work we done in this window. He said that he is pleased with the ones he did bring in but said that I would have liked to bring in some more. Didn’t sound like a guy with zero say in our transfer dealing. The opposite sounded closer to the mark. The smart thing would be to use Mislintat’s relationships with certain people that were involved.

  10. Not at all, we had sanchez meaning you can add any top class player in this team to attack, score as laca scorer or now aub scorer, it won’t change…

Without a MCD and 2 CD top classes, we can’t make it… I hope song comes in quickly and solve this issue that starts from our back, Kos is alone for years, mustafi is no security and we don’t have anyone in front of them… We dead then and anytime a team attack, even the last team in championship will score;.;.We have a huge hole, and you can put 5 defenders as we do,it still leave Kos alone in the middle, no one next or in front of him…So mustafi ends up on other flanks making a great assist to opponent…Like wtf is he doing on that side….Ridiculous: We just need Song in front of back 4, he’ll fill up Mustafi errors, block before Mus or kos who is lost….Then we can play wilshere miki laca, ozil, auba….Or it is impossible… Bring Song and call it a day, he should be captain too,he is a real gunner who played when we were syill gunning, no one else in today’s team has gunner spirit, they aint from here, beside wilshere who hasn’t seen anything yet…SONG always been key, when injured were less secured. When on the pitch, we knew he will make a difference… The defense feels secure, the attack as well feels free, and he actuallt start those attack…Xakha doesn’t he just pass and run to get a pass, not going forward or making that pass that ma kes a difference or a goal…Useless, but great stats, like our 70 % possession and losing games, he is the leader of that no sense possession, passing, he does most of our passes, then runs to get it back to pass it, gets it back because he just passes and player is stock has to get it back to him…He will be a great journalist pulling stats..

  11. Hate all the negativity – you really can’t make some fans happy.

Great Jan transfer window in very difficult situation.

Most fans been screaming to get rid of dead wood. And it’s happened.

Same same to get Ozil signed and it’s happened

And got 2 new exciting creative players come in

Come on fans let’s get excited and get behind this team

  12. The answer to your question is no.The so!union is simple only our esteemed Manager cannot see it. We need quality in Goal at Centre Back and DMid. The slagging off of young Iwobi is disgraceful. We are being let down by our so called experienced players such as Cech,Mustafi,Xhaka and it saddens me to say it, a rapidly dealing Koscielny.Until we offload this “group” we will not progress to a higher level.

  13. the only way we get to champions league is by winning europa league.

We 6 point behind 5 th place and above the rest of league who have their won league to not be releguated or finish as much higher they can under us considering the gap in between us.

We are very special as we don’t fit with the Champions leaugue fight wich is between 4 teams ahead of us wich we can’t come back to looking at fictures and those teams today.

The title is a not a spot to anyone to compete, Man City cruises alone to promise land, no one can stop them now.

So, this league as 5 leagues in it, the champions cruising, the 4 competing for 2,3,4 spot, arsenal in Europa league spot. The others and the fighters for relegtion…

We are really exceptionnal to don’t really belong anywhere.
