I applaud your enthusiasm, but I think you’re confusing a few things here.
Three consecutive seconds is not title form it’s consistency, which is different. Arsenal have certainly been consistent in the EPL but, unfortunately, have consistently proved not quite good enough to win it. I recall people using your reasoning after their initial second place saying next season Arsenal would do it. The same after the next second place, and it’s happening again.
As to the law of averages, you may want to look at a definition of it. I think you’re probably applying something called the “gambler’s fallacy”. This is where a particular outcome is supposed to occur because it has not occurred recently (in this case, after three consecutive second places, the next must be virtually guaranteed to be a first place).
We all hope Arsenal will win a trophy, preferably the title, but if they do it will be because of their own efforts, and a bit of luck which is always needed, over the coming season alone not because of some “inevitability” factor based on past seasons.
Agree Bertie that statistically speaking each season’s probability of a particular outcome is independent of any other. Statistically, we are just as likely to finish 20th as 1st. However, each season’s likelihood of a particular finish is affected by the conditions present each season which are in part determined by events which have occurred in the past and have continuing significance (such as Rice still being on the team).
Perhaps some of that luck you mentioned or many other factors will put us over the top this season regardless of not being quite good enough or not quite giving enough effort.
Yes, I see your point but Arsenal are not improving (building, if you like) in isolation. All the other potential contenders are doing likewise – and several are building upon success in one form or another.
Liverpool is building heavily upon their title victory in 2024-25. Chelsea are seemingly always building – and to some effect now. City also, with reports they are looking to sign Donnarumma from PSG, for example.
It really is scary to me but we have done well also. LP’s activity really came out of the blue for me. Wow, what a league!!
Carragher is right about the pressure increasing on Arsenal (and, particularly, Arteta) in the coming season.
Of course, as others have said, there’s pressure on all the small group of leading clubs, but for many of them it’s the pressure of success and maintaining that.
It’s different for Arsenal because it’s the pressure of failure (if we’re honest about it). That combined with huge expenditure this summer will mean that Arsenal/Arteta must deliver a trophy – and probably a major one. I’m not sure, say, the Carabao Cup will cut it now after so long without silverware. In effect, there isn’t really any more for excuses.
Hopefully, the new look team and the coach (whichever “look”, tactically, he employs) will be equal to it. Nobody knows of course. Only time will tell.

You are very right but each season brings its own. Arteta is definitely under pressure this season to deliver a big trophy (EPL or CL). I would want us to win both but winning the EPL title again after more than 20 years is the next step.
The CL trophy if we fail again in the league would paper over the frustration. But I would take that.
And about the excuse, If Arteta keeps the team fit and healthy then he wouldn’t have any more excuses in my opinion. We seriously have to go hard for the EPL title this season.

Truth is, even if Arteta does lift title,Carragher would find some excuse to label it as lucky.
