Chelsea are among the clubs reportedly offered the chance to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer, and the Blues have now responded to the opportunity. The defender has attracted interest because of his ability to operate in both midfield and at left back, but Chelsea have decided against pursuing a move at this stage.
Lewis-Skelly was used in midfield for part of last season because of the fierce competition for a place at left back. However, his opportunities in midfield could become even more limited now that Bruno Guimaraes has been added to the Arsenal squad, making regular first-team football more difficult to secure.

Rather than allowing Lewis-Skelly to spend significant time on the bench, Arsenal have reportedly decided that the defender could be sold this summer, particularly if the right offer arrives. He has subsequently been offered to Chelsea and Manchester United, with both clubs possessing a potential need for a player capable of covering midfield and left back.
The opportunity could therefore make sense for either club, especially given Lewis-Skelly’s versatility. However, Chelsea have considered the situation and appear to have concluded that he does not fit their current requirements under Xabi Alonso, despite his ability to provide depth in more than one position.
Chelsea Reject Opportunity
Metro Sport reveals that Chelsea have turned down the chance to sign Lewis-Skelly because he does not have the profile Xabi Alonso is looking for in his wingback. The Spaniard is known for favouring a wingback system rather than relying on traditional full-backs, meaning the defender may not be considered a suitable option for the role.
Alonso is also reportedly not keen on using Lewis-Skelly in midfield, with Chelsea already having more than enough cover in that area. As a result, the Blues have decided not to take advantage of the opportunity to sign the Arsenal defender this summer.
For Lewis-Skelly, the situation leaves his future at Arsenal uncertain as the club considers whether a sale would be the best option. Chelsea’s decision also suggests that his versatility alone is not enough to secure a move, particularly when his profile does not match the tactical requirements of the potential new manager.

As for game time, the line Rice, Bruno and Ode are first choice and play every week just isn’t happening in reality, it’s media myth. To be strong and successful at the end of the season we are looking for rotation from day 1.
In fact a couple of niggles or proper injuries and we could see a lot of Skelly, merino and Zoob starting 11 midfields – Merino starting right 8 in that set up.
I wish Skelly wouldn’t squander this golden chance to another London outfits in Chelsea. He may regret later if faced with little or no playing time here. He can’t suddenly be the best by playing 3 games in latter parts of the league run. Most Hale End products are in the standards fit only to promoted teams

Skelly isn’t the finished article and I don’t recall who may have said he is. I think he has come on in leaps and bounds and has a bit of attitude without going over the top. I don’t understand why you are so keen to put him in the same bracket (yet) as some of our former academy players who fell short. Too soon imo to be writing him off

Yeah he can’t displace the senior players you mentioned. Most today’s superstars had gone through the loan out option to develop their skillset including our Wiltshire. Arteta has to worry primarily about today; young players with their agents have to find ways to prepare for tomorrow. Better loan him out than rot on the bench.

Last season, he was dropped and lost his confidence, any fool could see that. To be fair he was dropped and that impacted more than his Arsenal career. That for a VERY YOUNG KID must have been hard. But he has shown more character that the likes of you give him credit for.
