Chelsea v Arsenal Preview, Team news, Line-Up and Score Prediction

Arsenal take the short trip across London to visit Chelsea this afternoon knowing that they are going to have a tough time stopping Unai Emery become the first manager to lose the opening two League games in a very very long time! But both sides have new managers and new tactics for the players to learn so it could just depend on who are the quickest learners!

But we will start off with the bare form figures, starting with Chelsea’s recent home League results…

I know end-of-season results mean little in a new campaign but its telling that Chelsea reversed that draw with Huddersfield by smashing them away last week….

And now here is Arsenal’s last six away….

Grim reading indeed, but then Emery has been brought in to try and improve our away record. It would be great if he started today, but with the Gunners not having won at Stamford Bridge in the EPL since 2011 and having not scored in 4 of the last 5 visits, I can’t help but worry. Still, they haven’t beaten us in 90 minutes in the six various games we have played in the last year, and we have kept a clean sheet on our last two visits, so don’t give up hope!

When asked about our approach to the Chelsea game, Emery said: “First, we want to build a competitive team. We are going to play away but we need to keep our personality, keep our mentality, because I think on Sunday against Manchester City, the team kept their ideas, kept their spirit in the game for the full 90 minutes, even when we were losing, and didn’t let [their heads] go down. That was a good thing, [despite] us losing 2-0. I want us to continue with this work and to be completive for 90 minutes, but with a better performance than on Sunday, both individually and collectively. We want a good preparation before and a good response on the pitch to that preparation.”

As for team news Maitland-Niles and Kolasinac are both out, so we are still waiting to see if Monreal is considered fit enough to return at left-back or if Lichtsteiner will take the field again. Cech is definitely in goal and hopefully Torreira will also start at last. Our old boy Fabregas is definitely out for Chelsea….

So here is my team prediction…..

Cech
Bellerin – Mustafi – Sokratis – Monreal
Guendouzi – Torreira – Xhaka
Ozil – Aubameyang – Mkhitaryan

And as for the score, I’m banking on Aubameyang getting a surprise breakaway goal early on to take the lead. We can expect Chelsea to fight back and maybe even get in the lead in the second half, but Emery will bring on Lacazette and he will combine with Auba to get an equaliser… 2-2

That team is a very poor teamDint you know that even th9ugh Xhaka and Guendouzi are DLP’z in such a midfield they’d be required to operate from time to time as pseudo box to box players? Both of them are also very similar and having both on the pitch is pointless. Its like having two Xavi’s at CM.
We need someone there who can at least drive through the middle and can do some basic dribbling which to me currently only Mkhitaryan and Ramsey can do at CM.
Using Guendouzi and Xhaka at the sane time is trouble. Both can’t dribble very well so when pressed will easily lose the ball. This midfield is more of a “ball winning one”.We need Ramsey or Mkhi in there in place of Xhaka.

Ramsey to me is useless, I tink Torreira and Guedouzi were good together when they played the few minutes of the Mancity match

To you. He’s not that good to me but I’d prefer him to Xhaka and will also prefer him in a two man midfield.Guendouzi as the attacking member will lose the ball under pressure because he cant dtibble out of trouble so he always needs an outlet under pressure. This is the EPL and hes going to be given a difficult time. That’s why we need Mkhitaryan or Ramsey who can at least drive the team from midfield and can do at least some basic dribbles.

        1. Luckyville

For now Mkhitarian is gona be used in the wings because we don’t have winger, as for Ramsey, I tink we should sell him if a buyer come. And I loved the face Emery was ruthless enough to take him off in the man city match instead of Guedouzi.

Was never going to work at No. 10.I’d prefer him over Guendouzi and Xhaka at CM in a two man midfield. He has his faults but to me will contribute more as compared to these two.

I’d give Nelson a try.He can beat his man very well and even though he’s a No. 10 he maintains the width of our team and won’t contribute to clogging of the middle area as Mkhi does.I fact having Mkhi and Ozil in the same pitch together is sometimes painful to watch.

Based on the last match, I saw Guendouzi won more take-ons and duels than Xhaka

I’d prefer Emery to leave Xhaka on the bench, unless he wants to use him in set-pieces

Was never good enough for us.I’d prefer he never starts any match for us.Having hi. And Guendouzi both o the pitch is pointless. They are carbon copy’s and Guendouzi’s even better. We limit our attacking potential in playing both.
We should put Ramsey or Mkhi at CM as I feel they can do a better job.

      2. Luckyville

Thanks, I think its high time players start earning their place in the starting lineup base on performance and not sentiment or favouritism.

  3. Xxnofx

3-0 or 3-1 Chelsea ,if he sticks to that same team as last week we got no chance ,even if he changes the team abit I still can’t see us getting a result ,defence and midfield are to weak in my opinion .

    1. Luckyville

I’m with you on this, Lacazette, Torreira, Litchena, Monreal should all be in the starting line up today if we wana take anything away from this match

    2. kev

The positioning of the players was the main question to me.If he had played some of the players in their right positions things could’ve been better. Our CM’s could not dribble and handle pressure I.e Guendouzi and Xhaka. These kind of players need time on the ball at DLP.We needed a proper box to box midfielder and I remember being very disappointed at Torreira not starting though he hadn’t featured heavily in preseason it was worth playing him.

      1. Luckyville

I think Guedouzi is hard working enough, he’s worth a shift, and I see his confidence growing with more game time into the season

        1. kev

Far better than Xhaka but wouldn’t pick him over Ramsey because I know Ramsey can contribute more. But would Rather AMN over Ramsey,Guendouzi and Xhaka because he’s quality and if paired with Torreira would make our midfield stable and complement him very well.We are lucky to have that kid imo.

  4. gotanidea

Admin, I don’t think Emery would be foolish to use Ozil and Mkhitaryan as inverted wingers again

I predict Emery would use this line-up, because he would not dare to bench both Ozil and Mkhitaryan:

    ……………………Cech
    Bellerin . Sokratis . Mustafi . Lichtsteiner
    …………Ramsey …….. Torreira
    Mkhitaryan ……..Ozil ……..Aubameyang
    …………………Lacazette

      1. gotanidea

Ah yes, I forgot about Guendouzi

But I don’t think Emery would also dare to leave Ramsey on the bench

        1. Luckyville

Ruthlessness is what we need from the coach… I tink this players have been over pampered in the previous regime

        2. Durand

Why not Ramsey on the bench? What has he done for the team?

Remember last week when he abandoned the midfield and let City overrun Guendouzi and Xhaka?

If Ramsey and Xhaka in midfield again, I don’t expect anything different than last week.

Poor positioning, poor at reading the game, pitiful at tracking back, costly passes or flicks that give ball away, and has shown no improvement.

Who am I describing? Ramsey? Xhaka?
          Both?
          I would argue both

          1. Xxnofx

I wouldn’t even have Ramsey on the bench ,two reasons ,one he’s holding the club to ransom ,and second he’s sh1t .Slow , no skills except from his little flicks which he pulls off 1% of the time ,no positional sense ,just about has bad as welbeck and iwobi for shooting . The list goes on and on .
I’ve got a bad feeling he’s going to play the same players except for torrieria ,and also the same setup . Which again means ozil playing that weird winger role and Ramsey playing as a striker .i maybe wrong but listening to his press conference I’ve got a bad feeling

  5. Prince of Ihievbe

Though I am not taking anything away from Guendouzi’s gifts. How many on here realized he caused Sterling’s goal by poor tracking in front of our 18 yards box?
I think it is better to use the lad with caution.

    1. Luckyville

I could as well go on to count how many times Ramsey has cost us goals too.. Remember Man city last season?

      1. Goonster

        @Prince of ihievbe.
How many times have the likes of Xhaka, Ramsey etc causes us to concede goals for the time they have been here? How many time Xhaha been caught on possession and We conceded. The same with Ramsey. They have all had their chances and have been rubbish. We have finished outside the top 4 for 2 seasons in a row while they have had the monopoly in our midfield. They have not helped us at all.

Let’s try something new and different. The old players can’t complain, they hsve been here for more than 2 seasons at least and have absolutely done nothing apart from frustrating the hell out of us.

        1. Go ask Alice...

Luckyville, if you need to go back a fair number of months to find a mistake like that, its not really the same thing. You can find enough of Xhaka’s but Ramsey rarely ever does stuff like both Guendouzi and Xhaka seem to have in their game. I hope with the lad its only a glitch that he’ll iron out of his game. I didn’t opt for Ramsey in my team but I am a fan of his abilities.

  6. herb

Chelsea has the best central midfield in the league, so if you put in rookies like ramsey, bellerin and xhaka then do not even waste your precious time hoping for a win because they will be overrun by Hazard on the right and Joginho, Kante and Kovacic in midfield.

So 3-5-2 formation is the only formation to use:

    Leno
    Mustafi…..Mavropanos…..Sokratis
    Lichtsteiner…Torreira…Mkitaryan…Welbeck
    Iwobi
    Lacazette…..Aubameyang

  7. Go ask Alice...

    ………………………Cech
    Lichsteiner…Mustafi…Sokratis…Holding
    …………Elneny..Torriera..Guendzi
    …Mkhitaryan…………..Aubameyang
    ………………..Lacazette

Ramsey, & Ozil on bench duties, you need something on the bench. Guendouzi’s height and strength would be useful central but he’s too confident and Torriera likely reads the threat better. Also when players tire they’d find a bombarding Ramsey difficult to keep up with if we need more firepower, and Ozil might find the space during latter stages of the game. Even though our win percentages improve with both of these players playing and it drops whenever either one misses a string of games, I’d still like to see this line up. Emery won’t see it the same way I wouldn’t expect.

  8. benex

    Our best lineup should be
    cech
    lichestiner
    mustafi
    sokratis
    monreal
    torriera
    guedouzi
    ozil
    auba
    laca
    welbeck
we need an electrify attacking force.

  9. JADON SPIRIT

Cech, Stephan, Mustafi, Sokratis, Monreal, Torreira, Gwendouzi, Ozil, Mikhy, Auba, Laca.
There’s no way we’ll lose with this line-up. Ramsey can be a good sub.

  10. sol Johnson

No matter the shuffling isn’t it the same average players whom we all knew?, I think AW got it all wrong when he wasted about
100 Million Pounds in a panic-buy of Lagarzerd /Aubameyang whilst we are yet to have marksmen midfielders, this’s the area where we’ve been struggling over the years and you just can’t win until you’re able to win tackles you can’t detect and execute your game plan, where defenders are chasing shadows allowing opponents free-room to score goals at will…U.E should as a matter of urgency overhaul the team if only the Shylock Board would be willing to bankroll his plans.
