Fabio Vieira enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Hamburg last term, and the German club want to keep him permanently. However, they must meet Arsenal’s valuation if they hope to complete a transfer for the Portuguese midfielder this summer.
Arsenal view Vieira as a player they can sell to raise funds, especially after his impressive loan spell. The Gunners have opened the door for his departure, but they will only allow him to leave if an interested club is prepared to match their asking price.
Hamburg push for permanent Vieira deal
At the moment, there are not many clubs showing interest in Vieira, while Hamburg want to bring him back as soon as possible. However, the German side do not appear to have the budget required to pay what Arsenal are demanding for his signature.
Hamburg could wait until the end of the transfer window and hope Arsenal become more flexible if they are eager to remove Vieira from their squad. However, they are also aware that another club could enter the race and secure an agreement before they are able to act.
Vieira is currently involved in pre-season training with Arsenal and remains open to different solutions. The midfielder’s priority is to join a club where he can play regularly, similar to the opportunities he received during his successful spell in Germany.
Hamburg reveal Vieira transfer efforts
The situation remains ongoing, with Hamburg continuing to explore ways to complete a permanent move for the midfielder. They believe Vieira can become an important player for them after seeing his qualities during his loan spell.
According to Hamburger Morgenpost, Hamburg executive Eric Huwer spoke about their efforts to sign Vieira and said:
“Fábio is a fantastic player, and it feels like we’re fighting for him every day,” Eric Huwer said.
“We’ve also backed up our interest with Arsenal with financial figures; the matter is well-known. But right now, no one’s even flinching.”
Arsenal will continue to consider their options as they look to resolve Vieira’s future. Hamburg remain determined to complete the signing, but they may need to find a way to satisfy the Gunners’ demands before a permanent agreement can be reached.

Hamburg want only to pay €10m and spread the cost over the length of the contract. The Arsenal want €20m plus an extra €2m as add ons.

He was a poor buy, nobody is knocking our door down after his “fantastic” season in Germany. Hamburg are trying it on with Arsenal but we need to get rid. Thats the crux of it. We will end up losing a ton on him whatever.
Someone with a far, far better financial brain will tell me how our losses on Vieira compare to keeping another bit part player. How is it valued? Purchase price minus selling price is one measure but is his miserable time at Arsenal any worse than the value given to our league winning season by Norgaard?
It seems to me that unless the club is lucky enough to have a player such as Coutinho going to Spain for an absolute fortune then selling on tends to favour the smaller to medium clubs who can’t afford not to look for financial gains and have a different model in how they operate
Sue, It is a minefield and there are different financial systems that have to be met. Thats why “some” clubs fall foul.
