Come on Arsenal – Sell Ramsey now and bring in Max Meyer

Why is Meyer signing for Palace and not Arsenal? by Iomie

The German star Max Meyer is reportedly all set to sign for Crystal Palace, but why haven’t we offered him a deal?

The highly-regarded German midfielder left Schalke this summer after failing to agree a new contract with the club, with rumours he was unhappy working with ‘bully’ Christian Heidel.

Meyer claimed that Heidel was bullying him and that is the reason he left Schalke, and not money like the Germans claimed earlier in the transfer window.

That led to speculation we were ready to make an offer and fill the void which has been left by Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, who both decided now is the right time to jump ship and seek a fresh challenge. And if Aaron Ramsey doesn’t like his new terms, then sell him for a profit and bring in Meyer for free.

All Arsenal fans are waiting to see if Ramsey signs an extension, and Meyer is waiting for an offer from a top club, but as the weeks passed and speculation over a possible deal eluded us, the answer as to who he could possibly sign for has caused a bit of a shock.

Sky Sports have reported Palace are now leading the chase for Meyer and have begun talks about a possible deal, with his £80,000-a-week wages causing no problems for their budget.

It would be a step down for the German to play for a bottom half side like Palace, but it gives him the chance to prove himself in the Premier League.

However, Unai Emery has looked for bargains all transfer season and would surely have been open to the idea of signing Meyer for absolutely nothing. While we are trying to persuade Ramsey to sign a deal under 250k a week, we have the perfect replacement available for peanuts and no transfer fee!

So why not now sign a player that is as gifted, creative and talented as Meyer, especially since Mesut Ozil will need time to rest a few months of the season, he would provide the perfect back-up and is unlikely to be injured as often as the expensive Ramsey!

I have been impressed by the business of Emery, but letting this free agent pass him by could be a huge mistake. Sell Ramsey – Grab Meyer!

  1. What’s with the hype of Max Meyer? He’s doesn’t have the required quality such that we can rely on him to produce the goods over the full season.
Max Meyer’s wage demands were quite high at a point in time.I don’t know if he always wanted £80,000 a week or so but his case is similar to Bernard and many other free agents who wants high salaries to sign for clubs since they feel they are free.Max Meyer is a good player but not of the required quality to be a starter for us.
Also, why are we making it look like Aaron Ramsey won’t sign?He isn’t pushing for a move else would’ve been sold long ago since we don’t want another repeat of the Sanchez saga.

    1. Why would we want Meyer? He is egotistical and stats are average.

Why would we want to sell Ramsey? He has a good connection with club and offers different attacking threat from other midfielders with his late runs into the box.

Conclusion: You don’t know what you’re talking about

      1. i would never replace meyer for ramsey, not only is ramsey part of the club and homegrown but he’s better than max in every way shape and form including attitude. since when did this kid become pirlo? overrated, overhyped and ungrateful.

tedesco should take full credit for knowing where to play meyer and make the best of him as he was useless afew seasons back he was schalke’s very own wilshire, but unlike wilshire who loves the club and puts a shift in this ungrateful diva went mouthing to the press about being bullied, really?! he basically pulled a van persie and then has the audacity to cry wolf!! don’t want him anywhere near our club he’s toxic!

at chelsea or the spuds would be great! and at 100 k plus even better 🙂

    1. The problem was that he refused to sign the new contract and he said they were “bullying” him. Let’s ask Ramsey or Sanchez shall we?

  2. No worries, Arsenal could still hijack Meyer from Palace, like what they did to Everton for Lucas Perez. Meyer sounds like a better deal with his lower salary demand and younger age, but currently Ramsey is the only British player that plays in the first team

Having more British players as the core of an English team is very important. Because after all the expatriates are just mercenaries that the English supporters might find it difficult to relate to

That is why the other top teams still have quite a few British players in their squads, e.g. Man City, Liverpool, Man United, Tottenham, etc. The local supporters that came to the stadium will look for players that share similar identities with them

    1. Arsenal get more supporters outside Britain. British player shouldn’t be the priority except for homegrown rules and also teams made more money from TV

    2. The sole person who understood what it meant to play for Arsenal was Wilshere to a point. Most of the British players today are disloyal, overrated and overpriced which makes them rotten spoiled beyond help.

      1. ?and Wilshere wanted a guaranteed start, which no top club should offer when it wants competition for players.
Regarding young English players, I was once told the following story by a Newcastle upon Tyne friend of mine, who grew up a mate of Peter Beardsley:
Peter Beardsley was the kit man for the England Under 18’s and although having to fetch and carry for these players, didn’t really get given the time of day. The under 18’s probably had no idea of his playing career, yet most would never end up being good enough footballers to lace his boots.

    3. You seem to talk about warfare – football has nothing to do with passport when Liverpool sold Coutnho money didn’t go to Brazil or Liverpool didn’t refuse to take the money because he was British and yes British players are good to have but gotta be good to play for Arsenal!! Remember Walcott??

      1. Remember Walcott? How I wish I could forget him! Is there a good hypnotist any Gooner could recommend to help me forget the laziest, most cowardly player to ever wear our shirt?

    4. Pretty sure this is down to the homegrown rule and nothing else. The amount of talented English players that get bought buy the bigger teams and then benched is stupid.

      1. It could be that the ‘talented English players’ that get benched are not actually talented.

  3. If we let Ramsey go we have to bring in Nz’onzii, even if Meyer comes on free and drops his wage demands. We need that aspect of physicality in our midfield to counter the bullying teams of the EPL.

  4. German players are all quality while the British are very overrated. Can you guys imagine the likes of Walcott or Ramsey playing outside the epl and demand the same amount of money as they demand and earn now? LOl. Heck no. If you ask me i would go as far as sell Ramsey and not replace him with any one as we do have the quality to replace him with in the team. A winger though i think is a must.

  5. We already have the winger we have been crying for in Joel Campbell. He is raring and ready to prove himself and I can tell you for a fact that he is better than most wingers being linked with us. I think he can be our Mahrez

    1. joel Campbell and Lucas Perez Should be our wingers since they were denied a chance by conman

      1. Really?Cambell has been out on loan to HOW MANY CLUBS?And how many have actually wanted to sign him? NONE.So why is he good enough to play for Arsenal when all those second rate teams didn’t want him?
The big questions with Campbell is why did Wenger buy him and when he realised how crap a player he was why is he still at our Club?

  6. i repeat it again, why not get rid of ramsey? he is not a club man, he is an opportunist. how many good years he gave to the club? one, two seasons. the others or he was injured or as if he do not existed? its true we need british players, but the club comes first. he will not sign because he is waiting for another big club (?) to come for him. gooner = forever

    1. Very true about Meyer.
      Says a lot doesnt it?
Lack of concrete offers for Ramsey.
      Says a lot doesn’t it?

        1. Merely asking the question regarding both?
          Quality or overhyped?

No other German clubs in for Meyers on a free, think it raises the question at the very least.

How many PL clubs in for Ramsey even with homegrown rule? Chelsea is rumor, nothing concrete.
Think that raises the question also.

Honestly not impressed with either and wage demands of both are too excessive I think.

Better than both out there, without a doubt.
Don’t we have Diamond eye himself? Hasn’t he delivered with his recruiting?

I say “F” off to Ramsey and let Sven do his job.
Have more faith in Sven based on his results (with Dortmund and Arsenal) than faith in Ramsey.

          1. You have faith in Sven based on his results?
            What results are they exactly?
Spending money is no indication of doing your job well.
We have achieved nothing under the tutelage of Sven…

            1. Talent he brought in son, that’s what I’m referring to. I have more faith in Sven to find a better midfielder, than hoping and wishing with Ramsey.

You think this year Ramsey puts it all together? Plays with discipline, controls midfield, links up defenders and attackers, and actually puts in full shift instead of 85% bombing forward?

Nah mate, 10 years shows you player he is. Ramsey good backup for a 10 if wages around 100k – 130k per week. Poor box to box because he ignores defensive responsibilities.
Sprinting back in mad dash because he was caught out is not defending.

Hope we can mug Chelsea out of £30 million for Ramsey to put towards Leon Bailey or Lozano. That would be 2nd best to Torreira signing.

                    1. Arsenal would not have signed Aubameyang for starters without the input of Sven Mislattat. Maybe influenced Mhikataryan as well. The jury may be still out on Socrates, but Dembele probably wouldn’t even be showing an interest in Arsenal except for his respect for Sven.
“Diamond Eye” has also identified Lucas Torreira (who most had never heard of before the World Cup), Lichtsteiner and Leno, as well as Guendouzi and young prospects Lopez, Flores and Tim Greenwood.
                      Not too shabby so far.

              1. abit harsh Durand! he might surprise you this year with our DM sorted and emery’s tactics, and at 30 mil that would be a steal for chelsea, how much was bakayoko and drinkwater worth again?

                1. Sal I’ll give you that, he may surprise us indeed. I’ll merely ask this;
During the last ten years, how many of those were wasted waiting for Ramsey to surprise us?
It’s an honest question, and sentimentality was strangling our club.

For me it has ALWAYS been about the badge on the front, not the individuals name on the back, period.

A bit harsh? Maybe. 5 years too late weeding out Walcott. How many years with Giroud as striker?

Laca and Auba banging in goals for fun, and 5 years with Giroud as starter.

I love Giroud as plan B, best in PL period, too bad Giroud himself didn’t.

Harsh truth is needed. If guys play they make millions, if they sit bench they make millions.

                  1. new manager, new system, new page that’s my motto. he’s played well for coleman why do you think he might fail under emery?

don’t forget these past 10 years where spent with practically the same system and way of playing tiki taka, even substitutions are predictable was only gonna happen after min 65!!

we needed a proprer manager/coach and we got one if he rates ramsey and we’ve seen his qualities we should definetly support one our longest serving players that’s how i see it, he’s got flaws but that can be corrected it’s not like he doesn’t have a football brain a good coach will maximize his effectiveness.

our probleam was DM DM DM since viera or gilberto if i was more honest ,and that’s been solved for the next ten years fingers crossed, so be patient and show support the season hasn’t started yet he might be our MVP. it’s a new system that’s what’s exciting a new way of thinking and playing the game.

also where you that dissapointed in him against hull after that long wait or most recently chelsea. know his weakness but don’t drop him to drinkwater’s 30 mil level he deserves more.

i also rated giroud and wish him the very best in ligue 1, i thought he was extremely classy in the way he left and underrated by many, if i where giroud i might reply a plan B but i’m a Plan A WC winner with no shots on target and a lovely medal around my neck 🙂

                    1. Sal great response, i like the passion. We just have different views on Ramsey. My issues are these;
36 goals and 40 assists in 10 years! 10 years!
That is very poor for a box to box player. He runs alot but does what exactly?

How many of his infamous late runs amount to anything? (3.6 goals avg per year). Club gets stung on counterattack way way more than Ramsey end product.

Lastly, Ramsey’s good year was clubs worst in 22 years. His bombing forward isolated our backline, and his selfishness contributed mighty to goals we conceded.

Kante runs everywhere constantly disrupting, now that is an engine!

  7. He played CDM all last season and that’s where his reputation increased recently. So we gunna get a CDM to replace our B2B midfielder? It’s not an upgrade even, so hard pass.

  8. Keep Ramsey and try to sign Leon Bailey.
A young, pacey winger is what we need and I do believe Ramsey will shine under Emery. Besides, Ramsey is proven unlike Meyer.
Or Dembele is another option on the wing…

  9. I would like Arsenal to bring in a top defensive midfielder Steven N’zonzi would be a great addition
and Arsenal would be back in the top four.

  10. People on Ramsey’s case don’t have a clue. The main problem seems to be that they prefer a different type of midfielder, they don’t want one who tries to score so frequently. This means the issue they have is with the boss, he will decide Ramsey’s fate. You’d think they’d at least acknowledge the fact that it is good to have options in your team, or the fact that as a box to box Ramsey has been a pretty good one lately. So they’d rather something different, minus the odd person who says he’s s**t. Emery, if he agrees with you then he will shape Ramsey into something else, maybe more Torriera like with how Rabiot looked more Verratti like after a while. Emery likes his CM players to have defensive skills, all of them usually. People need to be patient instead of staying on the same page even though they said countless times that another manager would get more from these players and he’d ship them out if they deserved it. If Ramsey does get shaped to become something else slightly, we also have the benefit of knowing that if badly needed Ramsey can become a handful in helping out our strikers.

  11. How much hve we paid him over the ten yrs? How many full seasons has he given us!! Yet he wanta 250k n more per week lets get real he is bang! Average and injury prone wont fill a pinch if he left kud b one less injury free season:-):-);-)

    1. FFS can all you hypocrites just shut up for once? You are all saying 10 years here and there forgetting that he joined us at 17, injured for almost a season and the long process of recovering from that kind of injury. if you want to judge him, check his stats for the last 4 years and conclude based on that. It’s just funny how arsenal fans rare about unproven talents here and there. Competing with lower teams for players. Even Everton has shown more ambition that us this summer and we’re here shouting for our best player to be sold. Check our best games and see who turned up. Check our big games and see who looks impressive. Your messiah Ozil is always missing when it matters the most and yet no one is complaining about how much he earns so why shouldn’t Ramsey (who gives more and even has more output than him) ask for an increase? Many here have always hate Ramsey probably because they are jealous of how much love he gets from those who really matter. Even when Jack wasn’t playing many here still rate him better than Aaron. The guy has done well for himself and should be applauded. The good news is that your opinions do not really count cos when it comes to people that matters, the guy gets a level playing ground so you can all keep hating

      1. just pointing out your defending ramsey whilst slating ozil a fantastic player who will definetly play a key role for us this year. and you started the sentence with all you hypocrites abit ironic no?

  12. Spot on Phil with regard to Campbell. There were so many Wenger signings who fall into the bang average category including Mustafi, Xhaka and Kolasinac.

  13. Check this theory out. The entire drama about Ramsey’s contract extension is a marketing trick to fool the fans. Club and Ramsey agreed to drag the contract extension as long as possible, to the point that the fans get concerned around losing him. And when they don’t in the end, guess what? Ramsey is like a NEW SIGNING! 😀
The old fraud has left the building, but the building is rotten to it’c core.
