Confirmed Arsenal team for Olympiacos test in Greece

The teams are out for tonight’s clash between Arsenal and Olympiacos at the Karaiskakis Stadium this evening, where the Gunners will be hoping to gain an advantage to take back to London.

The Gunners won 1-0 the last time the two sides met here last season, before going on to lose in extra-time in the second leg, but you would expect a better showing this time around.

Olympiacos were Mikel Arteta’s first European opponents as a manager, and remain the only team to have won a 90 minute match against his side, a stat that will remain for the remainder of this month at least.

Emile Smith Rowe was to be assessed before kick-off having only returned to full-training yesterday, and finds himself on the bench, while Alex Runarsson was left behind after being de-registered from our Europa League squad in favour of January signing Mat Ryan, who occupies the bench tonight.

What are your predictions after seeing the starting line-up? Who would you have chosen to start today?

  1. I’ll take ESR over Odergaard.who I think is more Xhakaesque with his sideways passing. Still ESR and Odergaard could play together as long as the Croydon kid was given the reins to run the show.

  2. Well played if we can cut out these stupid mistakes it will be almost perfect performance. I don’t want a sweeper keeper or a ball playing one, I would a boring and no non sense keeper over these lot any day. Leno has made too many of these mistakes, some got punished and some not along with his stupid red card as well. If we stop putting our own foot on axe we for sure are in a good shout to finish this season strongly. Arteta’s football philosophy is showing now I think, thank God we are moving away from side ways and back ward passes to more attractive football. We have been good to watch in last few games. Arteta got the tactics spot on today again as he did against licester.

  3. Great win for the Arsenal tonight, perfect result before the return leg! I checked in here at half-time, and the amount of moaning and negativity was worse than at a funeral home, but now when Arsenal turned it around there’s almost no comments. Makes me think people are having depression, always looking for negatives and disregarding the positives.

  4. Nice win! But as Phil said, I think MA really needs to look at the mistakes our players make, particularly when playing out from the back. It seems like they always lose focus..
A few hundred simulations and drills on this will maybe work. That said nice shutting out the game, just a bit worried that our Fbs crosses are not effective for some time now.
Great goals by Gabriel and Mo. Keep the faith!

  5. Not want to sound pessimistic but today’s was not at all gud.We were playing against a below average olympiacos team. Our first goal was pure luck.We cant win with this performance against a mourinho team this sunday. We need to be clinical in front of the goal

  6. Good job done and a massive win on the road.
Kudos to MA and the team. It is a process and some of us trust it. We know you guys will make some mistakes along the way but we will get there.
    Phuk the negativity!!!
