Confirmed Arsenal team for tough Burnley tie – No Ozil!

Arsenal have released their confirmed line-up to take on Burnley at Turf Moor today, and there is one shock exclusion.

Mesut Ozil is apparently ill, and has even been left out of the playing squad entirely, with Alex Iwobi coming in to start in his place.

The rest of the starting line-up remains unchanged from the team that took on Tottenham in last week’s North London Derby, which we won in impressive fashion.

Would you have made any other changes for the challenge that Burnley possess? Could we have risked more attack-minded players knowing of the defensive priorities of today’s opponents?

What are your predictions for the match?

  1. Three of our Top Four competitors dropped points yesterday, and Arsenal can go 4th with a win. An exciting opportunity – but don’t forget we’ve been here before, just before our match against Watford. This time there can be no room for failure. The Gunners have to give their all – and their supporters have got to get behind them. Traditionally we follow an impressive win with a poor performance. Hopefully the Europa match mid-week has gotten that out of our system. Nothing matters but the 3 points today… and I’m going for a 0-2 win. COYG!

  2. Why am I so non-confident of My Team when they have to take an opportunity?
I believe if we play well, a win is the only result.

  3. Xhaka shouldn’t be starting. The guy can’t penetrate through a midfield or even defend to save his own life.We need more creativity and Wilshere should have started even if his partner for this match would be Ramsey. We may win but there’s just no competition in our team. The overrated players are too many but as usual in due seaaon we will see how average they are just like some of the rest who have gone.

    1. The annoying excuse would be”we miss Ozil very much” then people will be like ”sell him as he’s useless”.What a poor mentality some of us fans have. The system and tactis is not good and unlike many even after so called impressive wins I still stand to my word because the truth is only what can set us free.We want to excel yet the coach will not change this funny system and some of the average players in the team.

  4. Massive win.
4th at the end of the match.
I don’t care but the line up will give me what I want.
Have faith as a fan until the end.

    1. Yes it was at the end that we got the 3 points.
Have faith as a fan till the end whistle.
4th at the end of the match.
1-0 to Arsenal. It doesn’t bother me but the 3 points.

  5. It’s official.. Walcott is useless as far as the first team is concerned.. Not even on the bench. Our bench is appalling and uninspiring . Thanks to wenger

    1. Giroud, Wilshire, Welbeck on the bench is appalling? Really?! That’s an appalling bench?! I just don’t get some of our fans…

  6. Ozil is absent because of an illness? Sounds fishy, but I think Iwobi could provide better skills and physicality, even though Iwobi is not as creative as Ozil.

Burnley’s defense would be breakable as long as Sanchez and Lacazette show their creative sparks and flair today. The bench also looks strong with Maitland-Niles, Welbeck and Giroud.

I hope Kolasinac and Bellerin would be able to penetrate Burnley’s defense with their runs. COYG!

  7. The ins and outs of our attacking front three this season has been a cause for concern. We know our best front three and whenever Wenger has made “tactical” changes i.e putting laca on the bench it has backfired massively (Liverpool and city namely).
These contact issues will hurt our, how much this season and the following I don’t know. But this is an embarrassment…
I don’t believe Ozil is sick at all, the only thing he might be sick of is playing for this club. And that’s fine, as talented as he is, you’ll only be getting half a player if they don’t want to be here.
I am not looking forward to the next coming months and the rumours that our two best players are leaving for absolutely nothing or massively at cut prices. I want someone held accountable for this, someone has got to fall on their sword for this. Ain’t happening though….

  8. Front line should be Lacazette Alexis and Welbeck
Another mistake from the confuse man Wenger
in insert the useless Iwobi in the starting front line up

    1. Welbeck is too brittle to be heavily relied upon. He’s only back and played during the week, that has to come into your thoughts when we’re talking about Welbz.

  9. don’t know why the commentators hate us… its a clear offside but the commentator is more focused on monreal’s push

  10. Wow … Half an hour of utterly shocking football … Iwobi xhaka Ramsey is a bottom half combo and always will be ..it’s like watching west brom

  11. Those of you that compare Wilshere and Iwobi with Ozil, shame on you! Without Ozil, there is no creativity in our midfield. Believe me, we will miss Ozil more than we miss Sanchez.

Look at this game, Lacazette is the only player with meaningful attach. Our midfield is dead! One more thing, if Burnley look more Arsenal than our team. I wish Wenger will leave Arsenal today!

    1. now its my firm belief that iwobi will be another walcott… if the lad was any good he would have shown that already… talent doesn’t require two seasons to shine through, look at fabregas or rashford, how many seasons they took to show their class?

    1. When I say this people call me deluded.Let me ask you all a simple question.Does anyone think in terms of ability, talent and quality that Xhaka and Ramsey are better than this injury prone Wilshere with unrealised potential??If you’re truthful people we all know what the answer is but if you re liars we also all know what the answer is.I just don’t know why some of our fans accept mediocrity. Why is it that only Arsenal takes several seasons to know if a player is average or not?The list of players in this category is endless.Xhaka is now in that list and people will be debating whether he’s good or not by which time many cups would’ve have by passed us.
I’d take Coquelin over him who I think if played in his proper position would make so many interceptions and save us points.Observe Coquelin in the Europa when he’s defending and attacking and you’d know where he should be.He’ll do very well intercepting as a DM but average as box to box.

      1. lol ramsey is miles above a player who makes one good dribble or pass every 4 games.. i like wilshere too but, he should stick to the basics.. as a player ramsey is miles above him

        1. Then that’s your view.Wilshere is a level above Ramsey and twice the player Xhaka is.What was funny is that you even used the word ”miles”.You even go on to say Wilshere should stick to the basics as if Ramsey does.Ramsey does not even stick to the basics and is known as one of the clumsiest players in Arsenal. You’re also saying Wilshere is a player which makes one good pass or dribble all game when Ramsey is a player who always keeps giving the ball away and can’t dribble.
Even from watching Wilshere and Ramsey on TV by their ball control, dribbling and passing you’d know whose better.
It’s not even debatable that most football fans would agree with me that as a footballer Wilshere is better and can do much more. They’ll also stress that Wilshere is more injury prone.

          1. …despite all these observations (or criticisms) both players can take some credit for being in today’s success in which effectively we have catapulted our league position above spurs – when we look at it this way we can all have reason to be cheerful, that’s you, me, aaron and of course jack. (imo)

  12. Yes! Brutal on poor brave Burnley but 3 points for us. Change of power in North London – I don’t think so!

  13. … just seen loads of flack aimed at Iwobi (all from our own fans). Dare I say it he is never gonna be the successor to Ozil (let’s be serious now). On the positive I cannot wait to see how it is we carved out a 1-0 win and i don’t care how we done it all I know we are ahead of spurs and we are really a champions league competing side (facts). Happy for alexi sanchez and happy for our fans.
    #COYG

  14. Yeah we won. Without ozil we have no creativity.we still lack that midfield drive from deep xhaka and Ramsey don’t provide that although Ramsey is mobile but he don’t drive us through middle.
