Confirmed Arsenal team for trip to Huddersfield – Star man misses out

The Arsenal team has finally been confirmed for the trip up north, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ruled out as touted.

The Gabon international is claimed to be suffering with an illness, as announced by Unai Emery on Thursday, and he has failed to be named in the final 18 man match-day squad today.

His Emission will pose some questions of our strike-force, with PEA having notched up a massive 18 goals in all competitions so far this season, and Alexandre Lacazette will be the man with the extra pressure to put the ball into the net.

A rare start for Aubz fellow former Borussia Dortmund team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan may well be a risk, although Huddersfield’s form this season should hardly be frightening for us despite some key absences.

Our team has slipped down to sixth in the table, and with Man United on course to move four points clear of us and into fourth place today, we simply MUST win in order to keep our hopes of finishing in the Champions League places, and the form of the Red Devils will be hard to match.

The impetus of the departure of Mourinho has been a huge boost for United, and that will hopefully fizzle in the meantime, but we cannot afford to fall too far behind, and have to take advantage of the fact that rivals Chelsea take on City today also.

Should we be worried about the starting line-up? How bad is it that I’m not brimming with confidence when we are playing relegation-destined Huddersfield?

  1. If it is 3-4-2-1, I think it would be too defensive:

    …………………………..Leno
    …………..Koscielny . Mustafi . Monreal
    Maitland-Niles . Torreira . Guendouzi . Kolasinac
    ………….Mkhitaryan ………… Iwobi
    ………………………..Lacazette

    1. I just hope that one day Maitland-Niles will get his chance again at CM so that he can show people what he can do.The guy has no significant weaknesses if played in his proper position. He can dribble,he’s fast, has strength, can defend very well and is calm and intelligent with the ball.I consider Arsenal lucky to have a player with his traits.Very few players are built like him and he plays every position like that’s his actual position even though he’s actually a CM.

      1. Sorry Kev, that’s never happening, AMN is just another Oxlade Chamberlain under Emery. The same complaints we used to have under Wenger.
We are giving it a pass under Emery, Injured or not, the boy hasn’t been given a chance in his proper wing, and let’s face it with the way and players we’re being linked with, he’s not gonna get that chance in his position. Sad but true

    2. Lamo!! Okay okay, now we are a team who play defensive against lower table teams and extra defensive against top teams, Lol Okay I get it, I do get it..
Lol Mhiki getting a start straightaway like Ramsey has nothing to contribute to the team.
      Whatever happens though

      1. I hope it’s not 3-4-2-1, but a more attacking formation. Because I think Huddersfield would prefer to counter-attack

            1. so if let’s say it’s a 3-4-1-2, so now we are playing Iwobi as a striker now????..OMG!! The kinda things this football club outs in your head

              1. Maybe not as a pure striker, but as a wide forward that can drop deep to get the ball or cross to his teammates from the left side

  2. Huddersfield are a very difficult team to play against away.
Our starting lineup needs to be much stronger

    1. excuses already … they are fcking bottom of the table with 11 points … we should be beating this kind of team by 2 or 3 goals comfortably … the fact that we might not is telling me that emery is not the man to take us back to the top … giving him til end of this month to show he can get us back in a groove otherwise want to see him leave in the summer … endless tinkering no spirit no organisation no drive doesnt make for a top manager in epl thats a fact … clocks ticking

  3. What ever team he choose, hope they perform very well, or perform poorly but get a good result. I wish us well

  4. Hopefully players are up for it and Emery gets hhis selections and tactics right. I’ll go with 2-1 Arsenal, with lots of running and back passing.

Huddersfield to park the bus, and a less than exciting game. We win but not easy on the eyes. Is it too much to ask for a bit of eye candy and sizzle to our play?

Pretty please with a cherry on top?

Ozil misses out, probably bubonic plague if Emery is asked

    1. It’s clear as daylight that Emery is trying to force Ozil out of Arsenal. What I don’t get about Emery is that upon all the tweaking of formation and system he has not played his best team throughout the season but when he did the players were out of position.

    2. Agree mate 2-1 hard fought win .
Ozil as illness according to sky same as auba
If I’m being honest that team looks week ,miki ,iwobi ,7outfield defensive players again not sure why ,used to look forward to the weekend games .cant really say I’m excited about watching this line up ,looks more like a carling cup team .

        1. I wouldn’t keep playing 5 at the back ,remember this is the bottom of the league team what does this say about us playing 5 at the back ,tbh mate I don’t know what to say about this team ,and the club .it keeps going downhill no matter what we do.just want this season over to see what’s going to happen in the summer .what plans the owner as for us .because I know one thing is that we can’t keep going on like this .

  5. I wonder if Mkhitaryan is really match fit.Hoping he has a good game today.A 4-2-3-1 would’ve made it easier for us than the three back system so that we could be included one more attacker instead of the extra defender.Huddersfield really love to dig in at home and thus we need all the firepower we can get.It would’ve also been better in this case to leave one of Monreal or Kolasinac on the bench since both of them run the risk of injuring themselves in the match.Im not happy with the lineup and formation but still hoping we win this one.

    1. Kev, why he’s making use of Kolasinac and Monreal is beyond me TBH, as for AMN I’m sorry he’s another Oxlade under Emery. With the players we are being linked with, I think he’s not getting his chance in position soon.
This line up is too defensive and this game will be a frustrating and poor game, whatever ces out of it, win or lose, I won’t be bothered.

      1. Yes, bizzare decision to use both together in a march which does not demand it.AMN is a really good talent. If only he was given the chance to develop in his actual position he could save the club a lot of money.I agree that the line-up is too defensive and for someone known to assess his opponents very well before the game it’s really shocking.Huddersfield are last on the table and will fight tooth and nail at home.It might a long long game for us but still hoping for the win.

  6. Why 3 at the back? Getting frustrated with that formation. Our best spells of play have come in a 4-3-3. Even in games we started in 3-4-3 (or other versions of 3 at the back) we only improved when we reverted back to 4-3-3 mid-game.

Maybe I am old school but I don’t see where the creativity comes from with these players.

  7. I’d love to see a 433 with AMN in an advanced position but have a feeling it’ll be 3 at the back. Not loving it but hopefully a convincing win. Lord knows we need it.

  8. Allot of players missing, Xhaka, Ozil, Ramsey, Auba, Bellerin, Sokratis. Our bench looks a little light, Nketiah and Suarez as the game changers. Guendouzi should have more license in this one. Lacazette is needing to prove himself here, you want the CF role, go show us how much you want it. We might be relying on Kolasinac for creativity, I’ve rarely seen a fullback get more chance creation than he does, and they are real chances. Iwobi, you have a bit of making up to do for the fans, here’s a good start.

    …………Come on you Arsenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. And people on here call me a fool. The man took away all emotional attachment I have with match days.kmt

    1. Man don’t let name calling get to you… always speak out, you have a voice too, you’re human..don’t hold back whenever you’re expressing yourself

        1. True Jah son, game is hard to watch. Arsenal just having a random kick about at the moment. With 7 defenders starting no surprise our creativity has evaporated.

Laca starving for service, and monreal looks woeful so far as CB, getting beaten and left constantly chasing. 30 min in and what is our plan of attack?

Playing like we’re the team facing regulation. Another bush league Saturday game.

  10. I’m seeing Miki in the team. If that is right it shows that Emery does have an issues with Ozil that is beyond football. It is as simple as that.

    1. Emery owe the Arsenal family an explanation Ramsey, Ozil, xhaka and Auba all out and people think this is some tactical B/A.

    2. Funny thing is you can read people going on here saying he’s sick.. 4 days later you’ll read stuffs like he’s picking games he play himself??

    3. Mobella, I hate when people are vindictive. It shows wickedness, it shows inhuman, it shows lack of forgiveness, it shows you are a small man. Egoistic, unreasonably and whatever any one will call it. If you choose Miki who just came back from injury, who hasn’t got the same talent has Ozil over him, then there is more to it than football. I have a message for Emery everything has an expiration date. So his time as Arsenal Football Club manager has an expiring date. Wenger will never treat anyone like this and being a good man counts for a lot in life. Ozil is my hero, he has done more for the club more than Emery.

      1. That’s your opinion though. You’re free to disagree with Emery, but clearly he likes Miki over Ozil. He trains with them every day and knows them personally. It’s possible Miki gives him more of what he asks for. I agree that Ozil is more talented as well, but I’m sure there are also fans that would agree with Emery. You accuse Emery of being vindictive without knowing the full situation. You’re not at the training grounds.

        1. RSH, I am not on the training ground but I am an Arsenal fan who follow events. Emery doesn’t like Ozil for whatever reason, but his job is not to like a player, his job is to bring performances. Now if everyone in Ozil’s position gives him more then our creative players are absolutely rubbish. Common sense suggests that you make most of what you have to get the desire result. So if our manger refused to use what we have even in the face of failure (past game) then there is a massive problem. He choose failure more than Ozil. We created zero chances against Man City in the second half and yet he refused to bring him??? We are just about average. Am a student of science and to the naked eyes Emery doesn’t want Ozil at all. It is beyond football.

          1. I will never celebrate Emery above us winning a football game. We have to play well, win football games, get respect above Emery’s ego. Until he proves otherwise and turn our team into a winning one, I will continue to criticise him. Watch Man U today and you will see a manger who loves his football club more than players. It was the hatred Jose had for players that sent him out of the club.

            1. Emery definitely has a personal issue with Ozil which reminds me of Mourinho’s treatment of Paul Pogba and what happened there? If he doesn’t fit into his style of play, then he should have moved him on last month he had plenty of time.

To his credit Ozil has been the perfect pro and has never publicly moaned about his situation at the club. Forget the huge salary, he’s not happy, he just wants to play like any professional footballer would.

          2. So we’re going to pretend Emery didn’t start Ozil and make him captain in the beginning of this season? Ozil didn’t play well. He did the same with Ramsey as well. Why aren’t you sticking up for Ramsey too? Perhaps your perspective is beyond just football too and you only want to see your favorite player start.

            1. RSH, am not watching the game live, but please read the comments below from bur, rkw, Gily, HA559 Durand, Kedar, and you will see we are winning but playing rubbish football. I want Emery to turn my club into something great not rubbish.

              1. I am watching as well and we’re 2-0 up, and they only have one shot on target. Isn’t this the same fanbase that curses our defense every game, yet Leno has only had to make one difficult save this game. I’m not saying this is the best game, but I have no idea why you’re concluding Emery is doing a bad job based completely off of one game. We could be one point behind the top 4 after this matchweek, yet Emery is doing a bad job? The man couldn’t even buy a player in January, and had a modest summer budget, and we are keeping pace with Chelsea and United. This is not his team, and if you think Wenger would be doing much better you’re being delusional. Even Pep couldn’t do much better with these players. It’s shocking and silly people want Emery to go and are overly critical because he hasn’t gotten Arsenal back to the glory days within a few months. Large portion of his critics are truly just mad he doesn’t start Ozil. Ozil attracted a lot of modern Arsenal fans and now they’re realizing his time is up.

              2. And as I wrote that, Iwobi misses easiest chance of the game, and Miki slips and ruins an easy chance for Lacazette. Top men.

      2. Also, Miki is more of a naturally wide player than Ozil, so Emery preferring Miki there over Ozil does have some logic to it. (Although Miki’s performances have hardly been better than Ozil’s this season).

  11. Thing is his shot was going to hit the corner flag before the deflection ,now it will be goal of the season in TH14 eyes

    1. How do you know the ball was going to hit the corner flag? Celebrate the goal and stop complaining about everything because you don’t like the player

        1. And I know it was going to hit the corner flag ,because it’s iwobi ,have you seen the rest of this match and his shooting ?yea it’s awful.

    2. I think you meant top right corner cause that was a RVP esque volley. Damn that deflection, it took the beauty out of that goal.

    1. massive understatement … again its clear that emery does not have a style of football … its all ad hoc plus effort .. not enough to get us back to the top that is for sure

  12. Our team is a disgrace. We get outposessed and outcontrolled by Huddersfield the last place team. we give the ball to them, that’s how poor we are. We will not get top 4, and if we get a good team in Europa in the later rounds we are out.

    europa for us next season.

    1. We lost our tiki-taka when Wenger left.
Now you have to choose one of playing beautiful and losing or playing ugly and winning.

      1. This is just a lie. Our tiki-taka died when Wenger was very much still in charge. And pointless possession with no penetration does not equate to tiki-taka, and the former is exactly what Arsenal was for the past several years.

  13. Sad part is this
    1. 6 months in and what is our identity and style?
    2. Is our set up 5/6 defenders now going forward?
    3. We set up to counter attack bottom table clubs?
    4. We have no money for transfers only loans?

We need to build another new stadium so we can compete with the top clubs.

Past austerity because we were building new stadium. Owner forces austerity now why exactly?

No worries, according to Josh we’re aiming for CL final, that’s the plan. Forced austerity, only loaning bench players from other clubs, and losing Sven, we’ll be there in no time,

  14. Never seen a fanbase to angry to be winning 2-0. We could be one point off the top 4 after this matchweek. Yeah, Emery is doing a terrible job.

    1. But RSH, it’s the style of football, or rather lack of it, that fans are complaining about.
      Are you happy with it?
Does it inspire you with confidence?
Will we beat the spuds playing like this?
It’s not the manager who’s being questioned, it’s the style of football and the set up against the bottom club.
Do you think this will get us back in the CL?

      1. Hope you were saying all of this when we were in our unbeaten run. Or did Emery have nothing to do with that?

          1. So by that logic Ozil doesn’t care about the club since he wasn’t playing well during that time. Got it. Glad we cleared that up.

        1. RSH, I was loving the run as much as you.
Emery was working the magic that we all enjoyed.
Why haven’t you answered one of my questions?
Huddersfield have now scored, is this really our Arsenal that you got back?

          1. When did I claim Arsenal were back? I just think you’re all being completely delusional in thinking Arsenal would be great again so soon. You need to be more patient. To answer your questions, we can still make the top 4. It’ll be difficult because I do believe we are the weakest out of United and Chelsea, but as long as we keep getting 3 points like we did today, it’s still possible. Get the results we need and improve in the summer. Is Emery the right man to take Arsenal back to being a top team? I don’t know. But to draw conclusions so soon is massively premature.

      2. Exactly right Ken. Your reference to style, or lack thereof. Perhaps others should read comments more carefully. We have players to play better football, Emery chooses to play 7 defenders IN SPITE OF defensive injuries!

Not understanding why we aren’t more adventurous against bottom clubs. Now that Mhki’s back we can field more attackers with Ozil too, or will Emery stick with 5 at the back?

Stay tuned I guess. No worries tho, with rumored£45 million available, PLUS Josh’s statement about CL finals appearance, we’ll be tops no time.

Huddersfield scores as I type; even with our defensive set up.

        1. pessimism runs deep in Arsenal fanbase. Probably a hangover of the Wenger era. You willingly choose to site a bogus transfer budget rumor that a highly reliable journalist has already shot down. All to create a negative atmosphere.

          1. As i previously post about not reading posts clearly. You missed the word RUMORED which you left out, to make your false point. I feel like Jon Fox now with RSH putting words in my mouth.

Love the part about how you cleared things up with “reliable journalist” nonsense, funny. As if the journalist knows him or herself. Only Kronke’s kbow the budget; hence I said rumored.

But you take “reliable journalist” rumor of knowing as fact. Funny thing is you probably still don’t see the irony.

        2. Durand, could that be the problem regarding people not reading other posts properly?
As far as the game went, three points are great, it keeps us in touch, but I’m dreading the spud game if we carry on like this.
It sounds like the Ozil illness was part of a mini virus affecting the club, but that won’t stop the critics calling him out again.
At least he can’t be blamed for today’s shambles…or can he?

          1. today’s shambles of picking up three points! Oh my, what a shambles! Liverpool won this same fixture just 1-0!

          2. Ken I merely mentioned the possibility of people not reading posts accurately, because I don’t want to accuse anyone of deliberately misrepresenting the comments of fellow Gooners.

Seems fans see questioning the lack of style as against Emery. Or questions his decisions of selections, tactics, and play as anti-Emery or impatience.

Perhaps I missed the “All Hail King Emery” meeting where he is not to be critiqued, seconded guessed, or even questioned in the slightest.

I never said I wanted him out, to fail, or anything except be successful. I know you see my point Ken as well as others, but I’m not one to meekly shuffle along, stay quiet, and tow the line.

Forgive me if I ask questions, and forgive me for wanting some substance with our new manager.

  15. Emery needs to dig deep because fans won’t take this kind of performance from him win or lose. For fcuk sake this is Huddersfield and not City. I do say sometimes that result is all that matter but our performances lately have being appalling to be honest.

  16. This is Huddersfield for flip sake. Bottom of the league. We have holding mid fielders that couldn’t hold a glass of water.

    1. If you mean Guendouzi then you are talking rubbish, he is in the team and ozil isn’t. We all know that ozil is finished at arsenal other wise he would be playing. Give Guendouzi a chance he is only young and he doesn’t go missing

  17. This team getting out possessed by Huddersfield speaks a lot. Still no balance to this midfield, and this defense keeps making silly mistakes, mistakes we normally pay dearly for against top teams, but they got the three points and that’s all that matters. The struggle continues, the only player who didn’t out a foot wrong for once is Koscienly.

Even while leading two goals up, we still play under pressure and we look so poor, Elneny couldn’t even mark. So much pressure, all defensive, hardly a midfielder to drive the ball and transit into quick attack. Iwobi though got a goal and gets into position is as usual wasteful. This team plays like an experience team and keep putting itself under pressure. Still thumbs up to Mhki, Laca and Iwobi who did little even though he was poor, you gotta credit him for his goal.
The rest of the game wasn’t really exciting, and playing against a top team, we would’ve cracked. Like I said we can’t attack effectively and we can’t defend, we can’t even keep a clean sheet against a bottom table team. There is no sign of improvement or growth a bit. I’m sorry I’m not saying anything to impress anybody or sing to your ears

  18. Well done lads, important three points.

    Ignore the repeaters.

We have half of our first team out, some slack is in order. When we had a fit first team, we already seen that we can rack up points.

  19. mustafi keeps kicking 4 touch good fulback at rugby iwobi 1 on 1 wouldn put 50p at 1000000/1 on him scoring, huddersfields goal LOL

    1. Tough away game!! Is that the excuse for that shambolic performance. We made it tough for ourselves. That game has 5-0 to arsenal in it.

  20. God help us from Emery
I can’t understand our style of football.
He just came into our club with hatred,….ozil is not tracking back as he said but I can’t just get iwobi and Miki is doing…..every team is out playing us ..
