Confirmed Arsenal team for visit of Southampton – Aubz and Ozil benched…

Unai Emery has made the decision to drop both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil to the bench today.

Alexandre Lacazette will be tasked as the main man to provide the goals for the visit of the Saints, with Iwobi, Mkhitaryan and Ramsey added to the mix to give us some serious impetus in behind him.

Both Ozil and PEA completed the full 90 minutes on Thursday night, somewhat unnecessarily as we coasted to complete the reversal in the Europa League versus Bate, and if we failed to score enough goals today some blame could fall on the head of the manager.

Aubameyang is our current top goalscorer, and while we should have enough firepower to cope without his inclusion today, it would of course be much more reassuring to see his name in the starting line-up.

Aaron Ramsey gets the nod to start only his second Premier League match since agreeing to leave on a free transfer to Juventus come the end of the season, and it will be interesting to see how concentrated he is on his task knowing his time with the club now has a timer on it.

Today’s opponents arrive with only two wins since Christmas, and without star man Danny Ings lining up in attack due to injury, but we will have to be careful not to underestimate them seeing as they have already beaten us in the league already this term.

How much respect do we need to show the Saints? Is Emery’s line-up rotated because he is taking the today’s opponents for granted?

  1. Delighted to see a back four and an extra attacking player. My only beef is Kolasinac at LB instead of Monreal. As good as he is in attacking he, like AMN on the right, unbalances the shape. Monreal for me all day long in this formation.

  2. Is it me or does our bench look stronger than the starting 11?
Still don’t get how players like iwobi and miki start ahead of some other players .
Suppose will have to wait till after the game to see what the manager is thinking again .

  3. Why Emery starts Lichsteiner is way beyond my comprehension. He is a clear weak link. It is a big mistake to pick him, IMO. Jenkinson is hardly another Lee Dixon either, BUT should still start in place of the aged and way past it. LICT’S LEGS HAVE GONE!

      1. Exactly ! Against Bate! Dreadful, league one level, Bate! We are playing an underrated PREM opponent today and will need our best avail players. Those can NEVER include Licht!

  4. Never change a winning team. Emery is the only manager I know, that just doesn’t give a sh*t. He shuffles the team around until none of his players knows what Emery actually demands. Somehow Emery has lost it.

  5. Another lineup that explain how clueless Emery is.. Micki on that pitch is as lazy as Ozil bit less creative.. This thing BTW him and ozil is killing our creativity.. All the same, I am solidly behind the team. Even if we win, I believe he still has to sort this thing with ozil

  6. Good line up except Lichsteiner, I don’t think he will finish this match, the man is completely finished perhaps that’s why Iwobi is playing on the right, to help Lich when defending unfortunatley, Iwobi is not good on that right wing IMO.

Anyhow, I just want is to win… Coyg!!!

  7. Today was a great opportunity to start Suárez…i would love to watch him an entire game…i like His dribbling skills

  8. Man United playing 4-3-1-2 with their two stricker and Juan Mata playing as 10.
Is it too much to ask for a little consistency.
Ramsey starting with Ozil and Suarez on the bench someone please explain.

  9. There is rotation being used because of the game on Thu, I can’t believe I have to mention this. Why risk Auba when Laca is not able to play the next two Europa games. Ozil has had little minutes lately and could be feeling the effects from having only two days rest between this game and that one. Emery also works with these players so is aware of any tiredness. There are more options in some areas than others too. It is better that we have a strong bench and try not to overuse Auba at every turn. If you prefer to complain well why stop now I suppose.

  10. Is our striker position cursed to miss easy chances? Aubameyang should be on 20 goals and lacazette on 15 at least by now.

    1. Is the walking dead filming at old Trafford? Players falling like zombies, 4 subs and more walking wounded on the pitch

  11. First comfortable EPL win in a long time. And it should’ve been more than 2-0. Thought Xhaka and Leno had great games.

  12. Jeez Sky televised the wrong game! United v Liverpool didn’t live up to the hype!! Would have rather have watched DWW (Hey John Wick ??)
So we won, I wanted United to be 0-0… now for City to beat Chelsea & what a super Sunday it will have been!!
Well done Laca… scored a goal in 4 consecutive home games… first player since snake RVP

  13. Auba has deserved that bench for a long time now

He probably should start from there for the remainder of this season

Since most of his goals and better performances came from there

    Laca the man now

  14. He’s got a good first name though, the best ? Chels looking more solid today although still think they’ll get beat aguero has to score and why the hell has he got white hair ??

      1. Haha of course.. was waiting for that ? wait what Sergio has white hair?? I’ve not noticed, been too busy looking at his thighs ????

                1. I have a good mind to switch over to kindergarten cop than watch this rubbish waiting all day for a goal ? and thighs has gone missing ?

                  1. I love that film…
I was hoping for 3, possibly 6 goals!! He has indeed! Those thighs have had it! This game really hasn’t lived up to expectation!!!
On a high note Price won a tournament yesterday!

                    1. I bet you’re well pleased with that Sue ? haha I could act it line for line ? definitely Sue he’s been poor! Neither game has ?
