Arsenal v Man Utd

Confirmed Arsenal team v Man Utd – Jesus starts over Gyokeres again

Arsenal host Manchester United in the Premier League shortly, and this is the starting eleven as announced by Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal team v Man Utd

The Gunners will be eager to return to winning ways, and after failing to secure victory in their last two league matches, the pressure has increased at a crucial stage of the season, making this fixture one of major importance.

Those recent results have left Arsenal in a more vulnerable position in the title race. Just four points currently separate them from Manchester City ahead of kick-off, although City have played a game more. That context underlines why this match carries such weight, as Arsenal have the opportunity to restore a wider gap with a positive result. For Arteta’s men, anything other than a win would feel like a missed opportunity.

The Gunners are well aware that momentum is vital as the season reaches its decisive phase. Every point now carries added significance, and consistency is essential if they are to maintain their position near the top of the table. Arsenal have also taken encouragement from their recent midweek victory against Inter Milan in the Champions League, a result that should sharpen focus and confidence ahead of this domestic challenge.

Home form offers further reason for optimism. Arsenal have won each of their last four Premier League home matches against Manchester United, a record that provides belief as they prepare for the latest meeting. While records are always there to be broken, such consistency at the Emirates adds to the sense that this is a fixture Arsenal are well-equipped to handle.

United travel to north London with confidence after defeating Manchester City in their previous outing. That result will have lifted belief within their squad and suggests they are capable of delivering strong performances on big occasions. However, every match presents different challenges, and playing Arsenal away from home remains a demanding task.

With the business end of the season now underway, Arsenal know that maximum points are required as often as possible. Backed by their supporters, they will look to combine urgency with composure and turn pressure into motivation. Given the circumstances, it would come as a surprise if the Gunners do not rise to the occasion and secure the result they need.

  1. Forget about the draw against Forest and Liverpool, A win for Arsenal here today, they will go on and win the championship, have seen enough to make this call

    1. Gunsmoke,

Make as many calls as you want, the truth will out come May. And I hope you’re call is the right one. 👍

      1. DEREK & Ambachew
Fingers crossed the refs and VAR won’t be the main talking point when this game conclude

From the apology of Brentford equalizer that was illegaly allowed to stand to Forest hand ball reported to be an oversight, time VAR and refs get their acts together

My calls would have been more straightforward, have it not been for the many PGMOL transgressions

  2. With Jesus upfront Man Utd have to be very good to stop us

With Gyokeres – the guy stops himself,
    Every defender can handle him

It’s better he comes off the bench for this match

  3. Good lineup, great to see a clean bill of health in the squad. Hoping Hincapie is proper fit, with that pace of Man U in the wings. Again if the shows intent early on, I see a healthy win by 2 or 3 goals.

      1. Hey only my predictions, but one win against City and a change of coach doesn’t suddenly make this Man U a good team. I expect Arteta to expose them away from home.

  4. I know this is off topic, but can I just ask Michelle or Admin Martin why there’s no coverage of the women’s game on JA now.

You’ve had the same old reports regarding the women for month’s now. 🤷‍♂️

    1. Hi Derek, fair question.
When Pat was alive I personally covered Arsenal Women alongside the men’s team. Since losing him, I’ve been running JA alone and had to make some hard, practical decisions. Right now I don’t have the budget to pay writers for Women’s coverage and I’m busy keeping the site running day to day.
It’s not a lack of interest (I love Arsenal Women!), just the reality of losing Pat and the knock-on effects that came with it.
I’d like to see that coverage return, whether through contributors stepping forward or a change in resources.
      Hope you’re well.
      Michelle

      1. Michelle,

Thank you for you’re response, and I completely sympathize with you’re position.

I very much appreciate it, thanks again. 👍

  5. Gyokeres deserves to be benched, because his stats are way worse than Darwin Nunez’s in his first EPL season

I’m just concerned with the way EPL teams play nowadays. They just sit back to wait for counter-attacks and that ultra-defensive tactics have given the away teams a lot of points this month

Carrick would most likely do the same thing. The pace of Mbeumo, Amad and Dorgu could hit us on the break, so Arteta will be forced to approach the game very cautiously

    1. We will approach it very cautiously

      I already knew that since

Fans will complain and say it’s slow and too safe

But that’s what we should do

Intelligently pick when to bombard them then quickly settle everything again for everyone to position themselves properly – avoiding been caught out of position for counter-attacks

We already know the game plan they will bring – we shouldn’t allow them stun us

      1. I just hope the game won’t end up goalless because of the way Man United sit back

Unfortunately, Havertz is still unfit to play, otherwise he would become another aerial threat in our attacking set-pieces

          1. We need to win, because Man City and Aston Villa have just reduced their point gaps to four points

    2. Good thing then is we can still score from set pieces and do it early. The game slightly opens up.

  6. *** pacing myself, I’m going for it. I’ll bring my boots, hand me a shirt and let me get out there. I’ll get stuck into them.

That arry McGuire I’ll put it through his legs and burst passed him. But then I’ll stop. Come back with the ball. Dribble round him a few times. Then hang a nose bag round his neck.

  7. Hopefully, Jesus gives a good performance as a starter and Gyokeres comes in later in the second half against tired legs and give us another goal again.

  8. 4 Prem teams play with total disregard for the Gunners [Man U, Citeh, Lpool and CHE] no matter how are form is these teams come to do damage. Our only archeles heal is our own mentality when in these high stakes domestic games. With that said if there’s joined up thinking with our team as well our manager ….then we’ll win handsomely. I did say ‘IF?’.

  9. Momentum is everything at this point of the season, win and those dropped points vs Liverpool and forest matter less, gap goes right back to 7 and full pressure on City ahead of 2 tough away games. However fail to win again and that’s 3 winless games in a row and full pressure on us.

  10. Jesus.

    Trossard. Odegaard. Saka.

    Rice. Zubimendi.

    Hincapie. Gabriel. Saliba. Timber.

    Raya.

    Subs –
Gyokeres, Martinelli, Eze, Madueke, Merino, Skelly, Mosquera, White, Kepa.

    Dropped –
    Norgaard, Havertz, Calafiori.

    Injured –
    Downman.

  11. Havertz didn’t make the bench, so much for the all players fit to play mantra touted all week.
We should be able to win today although a draw won’t be bad. A narrow 1 goal up win wouldn’t be bad.
    COYG.

    1. Emperor Augustus,

You can only have 11 starters and 9 substitutes. So us having a squad of about 23, some have to miss out. Their chance will come somewhere down the line I suspect. 👍

    1. That’s exactly how I feel whenever I watch him (and a lot of other Strikers)

They find good pockets to stay in – not tussling with CBs

And when their teammates find them they know how to use the ball very well – things our Gyokeres can’t do

So funny the Striker we called Lamppost is better on the ball than Gyokeres

    2. Arsenal have no need to covert Ollie Watkins for the simple reason look where we are now and it could well be VG14 who bangs one – as a finisher later in this tie.

    1. I will play Lewis Skelly in that position ahead of Eze

For goodness sake what has that boy been doing whenever you watch him play

  12. 11 wins and a couple of draws will win us the league as this City ain’t gonna go on a 15 win streak especially with the fixtures they have left. 8 home games left for us, win them all and these away games become much easier to navigate. Starting with United who are the highest placed team we face at home.

  13. Gabriel Jesús looks sharp since his emotional return, I once told a fan, the Brazilian always comes alive in Europe elite competition

The Brazilian seems hungry and may well brings his appetite domestically

  14. Well, finally MA has dropped Gyokares.. A must win today and Jesus can bring goals for sure.. COYG !!!

  15. Saliba just gave saka a dose what he’s been doing to Gyokeres lol completely ignored a tap in pass

    1. What’s going on with some of the criticism here for Bukayo cause I dont understand where this random Saka slander has come from. Hes having an amazing game right now and just created the goal for us, as he routinely does in the majority of his matches for this club. Gyokeres is rarely ever available for tapins. he’s rarely ever available for anything and has never carried the club like Saka has

      1. I love our starboy but he has been very selfish this season ignoring players in better positions and worse is he is missing with bad shooting. A section of our fans seems to think that Saka is above criticism.

    1. Issue is we are not used to play with target man
We have only played with false 9 that’s why we cannot adjust with Gyökeres

      1. I would have started Martineli , once am starting Jesús, they seems to have a remarkable understanding

    2. Issue is Jesus doesn’t have the pace and intensity to press or stretch defenses anymore, utd don’t fear him at all. Still a quality link up player though.

  16. Had mbeumo scored Arteta would have run on the pitch and slap them all. Man was pissed.
Wtf are we doing ? We need to calm the game and stop utd trying to kick that game into basketball end to end mode.

  17. FairPlay to Hinky for actually swinging one in there.

Take note Arsenal, wildcatting to break a deadlock can work.

  18. Thats just the moment we’re in. Work 35 minute for one goal, and give the opponent a gift. Arsenal still drop their levels immediately after scoring and so this will keep happening.

  19. out of nowhere and against the run of play. Zubimendi gift. You’ve to amend. We often tend complicate a simple winnable game

  20. This playing it out at the back was always going to cost us. From well on top to under the cosh because of the stupidity of over playing

  21. This Arseanal side is worse at hitting teams on the break. They always make the wrong final pass or wrong run. Even when they have the numbers, they will never capitalize on it

    1. Can’t break down low blocks, can’t counter attack. Basically we can only score by set pieces or Saka/Trossard doing enough wing play and finally someone latches onto one of their chances on their 30th attempt.

  22. Someone explain to me how we can go on playing like this all the way until May? This team cannot handle the pressure of a title race. It’s clear as day

  23. Well that lead didn’t last very long did it? What is more they have become rattled and sloppy. I see them dropping points if they don’t change the direction of this game. It was the same against Liverpool. It looks like they are losing their nerve.

  24. We need a very strong 2nd half
I hope it will not like the way we played against Liverpool

  25. That was a carbon copy of the goal we gave away against Bournemouth, passing across the goal AGAIN, what the hell were we thinking?

  26. When you work so hard just to score one, then turn around and gift your opponent an easy goal. Also Zubi needs to be called out as he has done this multiple times. There is no belief in this team and it’s matter of time before they buckle.

    1. What was the ball from Saliba who can’t even pass the ball 10 yards. Literally dilly dallying on the ball. It’s as if he wants to give the opposition the ball. If your players are all walking and no runners, just hoof it away from goal. Deja vu for the 10th time.

  27. Arsenal felt asleep after Martinez’s own goal. Saliba’s lack of concentration almost cost us a goal, then Zubimendi made a horrible mistake

Arsenal’s performance was still better than Man United’s though. We’d likely win the game as long as we don’t make more misplaced passes and if Jesus doesn’t get replaced by Gyokeres

If I were Arteta, I’d replace Trossard with Martinelli, since Trossard also made some sloppy passes

    1. Yeah, this match does not need a passenger like Gyokeres

If Jesus is to go out Merino should enter for him

Man Utd are actually playing very well
They are on a low block on purpose & are marking our corners very narrowly – it’s so hard for us to find goal scoring openings

Man Utd understand the game they’re playing very well – it’s difficult for us to open them up, but they only need 1 good break to score us

The game can very well swing any where

      1. Yes. Merino would be a better substitute than Gyokeres, because of his aerial and technical abilities

  28. A shame with the goal conceded, but i got a strong feeling we got this. Looking forward to a better second half. COYG!!!

  29. We have been sloppy since scoring, that was some gift! Still all to play for second half. Hopefully we come out Guns blazing.

  30. The structured build-up, possession-heavy approach seemed to be working up until that misplaced pass from Zubi. Arsenal need not to panic, mistakes do happen when you want to play from the back mostly.

  31. I’m not sure Leo is getting any joy on the wing its better we get Martinelli on for the remainder also our captain should be higher up probing more so as to force mistakes from (Man U’s) backline. Our tempo is off – Let’s step it up second half ffs

  32. We will look back at this gift of a goal at the end of the season and say that is where we lost the title because this team just don’t look like they can hold on to a lead or the top spot in the EPL table.. We just look nervous after we score.

    1. Dude we are not losing this title

Do you still think Man City is better than us this year ?

If we lose 10 more matches
Man City will lose 12/13 more

      This season is ours

      1. We’re losing this game and very likely to lose more with this kind of performance, trust me.

  33. This team lacks sense of urgency; when we were overwhelmingly better than Utd we should have added goals and not give them respite to recover.
At Emirates we saw 2 types of 2nd halves. One against Villa which was audacious and the other v Liverpool that was timid. Which one shall we see tonight?

  34. It’s the same sort of start which had against Liverpool
    Not getting ball at all
    Losing every 2nd ball
This is so frustrating to watch

      1. It seemed he used his hand to guide the ball after it came of his thigh. Without it hitting his hand he wouldn’t have kept control.

    1. I think so, too. I’m just not convinced by this team when the pressure is on. We just look nervous and edgy. We panic and we fluster even in the simple moments. Utd are taking this game be the scruff. We are the scruff..

  35. What did I say. This team will break. They don’t have confidence and easily gets rattled. This is not a championship winning behavior

  36. Getting exactly what we deserve. Teams are finally punishing us for being such a passive, do-nothing side. Arteta thinks he can win this title by playing a bunch of boring, safe football. Started this half like a team that doesn’t care one way or the other.

  37. Have they all lost their heads simultaneously, we are doing the same like the liverpool game.

    1. Tbh even if we pull out 3 points here I’ve seen enough Arsenal over the years to know that if we dont bottle today we’ll bottle later on. Even if it’s just against a team like West Ham. This team are simply not title winners and are mentally fragile. I’ve seen enough of them to know they dont have what it takes. Pessimistic, probably, but also just reality. Said when we didnt have the multiple chances to kill off City in this title race that’d basically be it, and Arsenal were in for a very rough January.

  38. …maybe now we’ll speed up play. If Eze comes on he needs to ‘really be that guy’ again – like he was in the NLD.

The player to watch / Big game *Merino

  39. Oh shocker, Odegaard had another stinker. And also, can we now revisit the captain title for this club? Cause Odegaard is just a ghost. Zero leadership skills and has never shown any in a single one of our title races

  40. We have been so sloppy since we scored. We need to settle. I’m confident we can score one if we start to impose control of the game like we started.

  41. That’s twice Odegaard been honked off before 60min when we needed to score. Arteta may love him but we know he’ll drop a player without feelings.

  42. Panic substitution. The armband is too heavy to Odegaard. If Gyokeres scores it would highlight Arteta’s mistake. If Arteta had listened to remarks of Fooball london pundits Tom Canton, Jesus and Hincapie wouldn’t have been on the first eleven.

  43. The only thing that will convince me that we can win the title is to go and score 2 more goals and win this game. Let’s see how many more shots on target we get with 25 mins to go..

    1. So the seasonal Arsenal collapse begins. Two points from nine is not good enough. I fancy City for the title now and furthermore on the basis of the last three games Arsenal won’t win a thing…

  44. We’re likely a boxer on the ropes. Utd have grown into this game and we’ve faded. The subs have made no difference. Maybe worse?..

  45. Next 20 mins decides the title race
Remember so fans said we can win the quadruple and apart from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid , we easily win the CL !!!

    1. 🤣😅🤣🤣 How does the next 20min decide title race? Am not speaking for the fans who said would “win quadruple” but I don’t understand how the next 20min could decide a

        1. Am not saying we’re winning it, but that’s a bit of emotional thing to say from your side. Yes Arsenal hasn’t been good enough lately but so is City and Villa, I think there’s still going to many twists and turns in the race. But nothing suggests City and Villa are ready to seize the opportunity.

          1. Then nothing to worry about if you truly believe that
I can only warn people so many times
Getting over the line in sport is huge mentally

            1. I’ve been critical of this Arsenal side, I think they’ve been too cautious. But I just don’t believe and think its over for a team leading with 4 points in the table. Maybe not until other team raises their hand, City is bad to be honest. Maybe Villa pose more threat as underdogs for me.

  46. Arsenal are doing nothing- so much on the line and no response. Questions will be asked and the inevitable “Arsenal bottle job” will no doubt rear its head and to be honest I cannot disagree. If it’s not set pieces or own goals we are stuffed.

  47. …We should have NEVER gotten in this situation the mancs have been leaking goals (against) this season in the EPL. Relyiance on an own goal is BS

  48. Another uninspired performance from our midfield. Odegard, Eze and Zubimendi might be technically gifted players but they have no fight in them. They all go missing in high intensity games.

      1. Wouldn’t say we are bottlers but where on earth are our goals coming from?
This is really poor and very worrying.

      2. If you see our whole performances in the month of January in league per se then certainly we are bottlers
Couldn’t bear Liverpool at home when Bournemouth can beat them
Couldn’t beat Forest who is relegation battle
That was nothing short bottle jobs

  49. Useless absolutely useless. Arsenal are bottlers pure and simple. Just give it to City on a plate.

  50. Unbelievable! Well I guess we don’t want the title after all. Shocking display and even Carrick has Arteta’s number!!! Sheesh!!

    1. I wouldn’t be surprised if Villa got on to win the title as a complete outsider like Leicester did. We’re still not the team to do it after all. Even on 95 mins We’re giving it away. Poor show..

      1. Yes just to rub the salt in! How much would Unai love that? Awful, GunneRay, just awful. No more dreaming about May now, I’ve seen enough

  51. Is it time for Arteta to go?
Will win sod all with him in charge
    Gutless and totally soulless

    1. If this season ends trophy less yes. They won’t do it, but he really should. Idk why we should continue the delusion that no manager itw can do better than mikel who has spent 1bill on players and still cant put together a competent attack and only wants defenders. We spent 50mill on Madueke and he has not a single goal or assist in the league.

    2. Arteta wasn’t playing today!
So we lose a game, are still 4 points in front and he’s got to go?
      You wet muppet.

      1. And your say that at 3 points …then 1 point …then it will ….oh we only finished this many points behind

        Can’t have it both way
If fans are saying we can will all 4 trophies and that we can win the CL easily , there will be shock when people.see that standard

      2. Don’t be a twat it’s about opinions and mine is I want us to succeed but 2 pts in 9 isn’t championship form so if we don’t win the Premier league he has to go as no chance of the champions league

      3. I don’t think Arteta should go by any means it’s just one game after all but he must ask questions- specifically why a team that has such a wealth of attacking options can look so blunt and jaded up front – it’s negative football even Saka looks one dimensional. You may say it has brought us good form but not recently. Today was very disappointing not all because of the result but the way we played which was terrible.

      1. Folks are in denial. Some of us have been sounding the alarm bells for ages and saw this coming. Being realistic is just being realistic. If reality is gloomy, then it’s gloomy I guess.

    1. Seriously, Ken1945 do you really believe this team can win the EPL? The only reason we’ve been top for so long is because Liverpool and Ciry have also been poor.

  52. Disgusting 🫣 yes they were lucky with those long range shots but we didn’t come out to play the 2nd half and this time we got punished.

  53. ….(squad-wise) WE boast TWO Teams and this is all we can do at home?? A complete sh** show.

Of all the teams to throw a spanner in the works
    🙁

  54. They have been playing this way the whole season and now the performance is catching up to them. When we say it’s not sustainable, some folks says we just like complaining because we are on top of the league and there is no reason to worry. The elephant 🐘 on the tree.

  55. Let’s face it, it wasn’t good enough all over the pitch. The energy has dropped. The performance dropped, concentration dropped. Another quick start but as always, slows down and the game drifts away. The message this result sends out will have massive repercussions. Maybe MA has done all he can?
