Could Aleksandr Golovin be Arsenal’s third signing?

The CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin has been linked with a move to Arsenal all summer and it was rumoured that the Gunners were in negotiations for the young Russian international since the New Year. Now the player himself has admitted that he is happy that he wanted by the Gunners. Golovin said: “Of course, I will be pleased that such a club is interested in me.

“In my opinion, every football player, regardless of age, wants to play in Europe. I’m not an exception.”

Golovin is extremely highly rated in Russia, but being only 21 he is humble enough to say that having not been tested at the level of Arsenal, he simply cannot be certain if he is ready to join such a big team when asked directly. ”I can not answer your question.” he continued. “I did not train with this team. I do not know how it is or what.

“Yes, we played in the Champions League with rivals of this level, but I do not know the situation from the inside.

“Of course, I would like to try my strength there.

“Still, I do not have a clear idea of whether I’m ready for Arsenal.”

But the fact is that he must be highly regarded by Arsene Wenger, and Le Prof has had him watched closely at the Confederation Cup this summer. And with the player himself admitting that Arsenal are interested, perhaps we may yet see him arrive this summer.

Did any of our readers watch him in the summer? Is he ready enough to come to Arsenal?

  1. I have to watch a youtube video clip of him before I can rate him. He’s pretty unknown to me. Another potential? No. I want proven talent.

  2. If the Ox is going even by next season bring him. One year will be okay for him to adapt. He’s a good player.

  3. I can’t think of any Russian/Ukraine player that has done well in the EPL, even ones who have shone in other leagues. Arshavin was good for 9 months but for whatever reason it all went wrong for him. Others like Rebrov, Shevchenko, Smertin, Pavlyuchenko etc have also not had a good time in this country. So for that reason only I would not be wanting him for our team.

  4. His close control looks impressive on YouTube. But all players show dazzling skills on YouTube videos.

If he is available around ten millions, he would be a bargain. But I prefer proven players like Rafinha and Sergi Roberto.

    1. rafinha is garbage and often injured. Sergi roberto on the other hand is absolute quality. I’d gladly take him.

  5. Good player but shouldn’t be a priority in this window.

How about a Draxler and Krykrowiak (sp?) swap for Sanchez?

Sell Gabriel, Perez, Chanmbers and sign Manolas or
    VVD?

    Sell Ozil and buy Lemar?

    Laca
    Draxler…Lemar
    Saed…Krychowiak..Xhaka…Ox
    Boss…Mustafi…VVD/Manolas
    Cech

Would be disappointing to see Sanchez and Ozil leave the Emirates but Arsenal would be strengthening with 3 fantastic players and avoiding the financial abomination of $100M walking next summer.

      1. Because they know Sanchez will make them instant contenders for the CL.
Draxler has such a big upside and is also the captain of Germany.
He is also good friends with Ozil and Kyrchowiak can leave, they don’t rate him whatsoever.
Maybe give them 20M along with Sanchez.
Don’t know if Lemar will come this window though, more likely to be next summer.
Mbappe will have a one-year remaning contract by then, hopefully Wenger can do some magic for one last title shot before leaving for good.

    1. I keep hearing VVD when he his injury record rivals ramsey and others. How come no one else said Manolas or Koulibaly – VVD is an amazing player don’t get me wrong but why replace one constantly injured CB with another. We need injury-free players.

      1. VVD got a bad injury in Jan that kept him out til June.
        2016/17 season, Jan 26 – June 11, 136 days out. (Malleolar injury)
2014/15 season, took a knock, only four days out from May 29 onward.
2011/12 season, March 29 to July 2, 95 days out. (Appendectomy – Appendix removed)

        Injury free throughout 2012/13 season – 2013/14 season – basically 2014/15 season – 2015/16 season.
He had a bad injury in Jan gone which he has recovered fully from. Id hardly say he is problematic with injuries, nothing like our worst cases.

        1. there hasn’t been any official bid for him, he’s been a professional through this entire window, he hasn’t handed in his transfer request, the board and wenger don’t want to sell him. But arsenal fans ” Nope sell him!” after listening to hot garbage from the media. Thought we weren’t a selling club, whats with the small club mentality now?

      1. Sanchez will leave next window, regardless of how well or poorly this season goes.

PSG would be a great destination for the Chilean to pursue his futbol ambitions and Arsenal could conceivably receive 2 quality players in return.

Sanchez is a WC player, and by far Arsenals best but this notion that the club cannot survive or be competitive in the EPL without him is incredibly shortsighted and asinine.

  6. seems we look at anyone named Alex
alex song, alexis sanchez, alex hleb, alex ox chamb, alex lacaz, alex maninger, alex iwobi.

lesser known alex graham, alex james, alex forbes.

…so yeah why not look at aleksandr?

  7. Who the heck is this Golovin now?????
Dont you dare u old fooool!!..
    We have enough deadwood players!!!

  8. VvD although he maybe injury prone.. is young.. a natural born leader.. is tall good in the air.. loves a tackle and has premier league experience.. manolas on the other hand is a warrior.. he apparently wants out and a fee had been agreed but he didn’t wanna go to Russia bcoz of climate changes.. so why doesn’t Wenger match the bid and get the deal done.. looks like Gabriel is on his way.. either sell or loan chambers and loan out holding.. I mean our defence against lcfc was almost laughable.. I feel we need a DM aswell..

WENGER has got this transfer window to convince Sanchez and ozil aswell as the ox.. and why not convince them with big signings.. players for the 1st 11.. we still need 2 mayb 3 signings and Wenger is blabbing on about having to many players.. start selling put some players on the transfer list.. debuchy jekinson Gibbs elneny coquelin.. If Sanchez and ozil do leave it has to be foreign club or wots the point? They gonna go to whoever they want come January so time is running out..

Same old Wenger afraid to pay the money to get the deal done!! The dithering is boring now.. year after year..

    GOONER4LIFE

  9. Oooh and OT ..I just cant help it ..I just cant believe it. Gabriel fckn Paulista is offffffff!
    Yeees!

  10. Can’t believe juve got matuidi for 18m!
I hope the lemar to MU story is the press trying to wind us up.
Draxler to arsenal yes please, krychowiak to arsenal yes please.
Psg should be the team we should be buying from before too many others do a Monaco and they close their shop window.

  11. V V D really isn’t that injury prone, he’s had one knock on his ankle (4 games) and a more serious injury to the same ankle (18 games), both impact injuries which can happen to anyone.

The other time he was out for 7 games was because of an appendectomy, and that isn’t going to re-occur lol.

It’s all pretty academic anyway, as I’m pretty sure he wants to go to liverpool.

  12. I saw Golovin in the confederation cup and thought he was pure quality and fight. I did also see him play for cska in a UEFA game and he was an absolute star for his team. So, I won’t be concerned if Arsenal were to bring him in because I feel he will be sort after in the next 2 years, Mark my words. While he plays in the Alexis role for the national side, he seems to be a box to box for his clubside and wins back possession with a tackle and move style that is rare. He’s also very sure footed, for such a young man; he will be a very good player amongst what we have and given the way we play.

For sure, he won’t elicit excitement amongst our fans now, but he’s worth a punt to keep him away from rival bidders.

  13. Absolutely sickened to find Juve have got Matuidi for £18.5 million. The answer to our midfield problem served up on a plate and Arsenal missed out. Makes Coquelin, Elneney, Ramsey and Xhaka look like a bunch of amateurs. Ok he’s 30 but he would have been good for a couple of years at least. That would have given time for 1) any of the aforementioned players to learn from him and improve 2) one of the academy players to make the breakthrough to the first team or 3) for us to use the time to find a younger version of Matuidi.
What were AW and his team thinking? It seems that one minute PSG offer him and a couple of seconds later Juve bite their hand off! Do you get the impression that the management/scouting teams of others are on the ball, eyes and ears wide open while Arsenal trundle along at the speed of an asthmatic snail? For crying out loud WAKE UP!

    1. Maybe, just maybe, PSG may have had leverage over Arsenal in the Alexis deal had we shown interest in any of their player in the summer while they had eyes for our star. Usually, a club is best served shutting out every contact at that time.

In any case, I will give Wenger the benefit of the doubt when it concerns picking out French players; if he didn’t go for Matuidi all these years, he won’t do so when the man is 30. Milan and Juve are the ones with such a reputation for giving older players a chance to shine, not the English sides.

  14. Draxler is certainly becoming an option, and price around £35m in todays market cheaper than the ox!! And he sounds like a vampire which is cool

    1. Yeah, but soon as Arsenal throws their hat in the ring for him, that price shoots up to over £60m. The player himself has stated his desire to stay and fight for a place in such a powerful squad, assembled by Quatar’s 150 years of oil and gas money.

  15. Just read that Draxler is for sale as PSG do a clearout to get some cash back after Neymar. We already missed out on Matuidi. As Draxler is similar to Lemar maybe Arsenal will step in. Also read that Man U are considering Lemar. If so they probably won’t do ‘The Arsenal Dither’ and will just step him and buy him, whether he is officially for sale or not! Proper clubs MAKE THINGS HAPPEN! Is anyone even awake at Arsenal? Thought not.

  16. Some good news! Jeorge Bird has recently announced that Arsenal have officially promoted youngsters REISS NELSON, Joe Willock and Cohen Bramall to the first-team squad. That makes the squad 36 and only 25 allowed. Solution? Post the 25 on the dressing room wall NOW! Don’t wait until the official date (September 1st). Those who miss out will then have a choice – do nothing and just laze around until their contracts expire at Arsenal’s expense, or reduce the size of their egos and of their wage demands and tell their agents to find them a club fast! Sooner or later they must realise they are not top club material and should be thankful another premiership team wants them. Sooner rather than later would be good of course, both freeing up funds immediately and reducing the wage bill over the long term.

  17. Big teams have big personalities-

    Ibramavich, Costa, Ronaldo etc.

Sanchez is our only big personality. They may not be the easiest person in the dressing room, but they add drive and determination to the whole team-

I hate to admit it – but Sanchez would be a big loss. He’s drive more than his skill is biggest loss

Even Drexler couldn’t suitably replace him

  18. yes I watched him,he is good.but what we need is an imposing CM that can dominate d middle of d park.this is what Arsenal is lacking but d old man has failed to address it once again.
