Could tonight’s match be Cech’s last game for Arsenal?

Ever since Petr Cech announced in January that he would be retiring from Arsenal at the end of the season, he has many times stated that he would like to go out on high by winning a trophy in his last game for the club. His only chance since he was replaced by Bernd Leno in the Premier League side has been in the Europa League, which means this could be his very last game for the Gunners if we are beaten on aggregate or penalties.

Cech himself is not worried because, as he says, we could have been knocked out in any previous round as well, but we’ve still made it this far. “We knew in this campaign we were in this position a few times.” he told Arsenal.com. “We lost the first leg away in Borisov, so the second leg could have been the last game in Europe for me. And then we lost in France, so each round was the same thing. Next time, with Napoli, we won at home but we respected the opponent going to Italy and we knew it was going difficult.

“Tomorrow is the same situation. We gave ourselves a two-goal cushion, but you know, two goals with the away goals now is an advantage but it’s not a decisive advantage. We can see that in the past and we can see it in the future, ties will get overturned with that deficit because football is about that. We respect the opponent tomorrow and it will be very difficult. We were on the right side of those little details when we won 3-1, so we keep our feet on the ground and we know that tomorrow is another difficult 90 minutes.”

We managed to pull through all the other ties, so maybe Petr will be our lucky charm and keep another clean sheet like he did against Napoli. I am sure he would love to end his illustrious career by winning his first European trophy with Arsenal, especially if we can beat his old club Chelsea in the final. It would be a fairytale ending, which is why i can see it coming true!

Do you think Arsenal could do the incredible and scrape through by the skin of their teeth yet again? I’m going to have a fun bet at 33/1 for Arsenal to qualify in extra time from BetUK. It could happen! Or you can get 50/1 for Cech to help us win on penalties!

  1. I am not going to bet at all on this game, unusually for me, simply because I find this game impossible to call either way. I would not rule out u swinning the game even by two goals. Equally I would not rule out us getting a hiding. Or anything in between either. It will be peeping over the sofa time with fingers , toes and probably eyes crossed too. If it ends anything like either the Spuds or Liverpool game, I will probably have a heart attack! COYG!
