Credit where it´s due! Wenger got Arsenal team and tactics RIGHT!

We Arsenal fans are quick enough to jump on Arsene Wenger or the Arsenal board and owners, as well as any individual player, when something goes wrong and we think they are to blame or at the very least have some questions to answer, so in all fairness it should work the other way around as well.

It often does, in fact, when it comes to the players, as one decent performance from the likes of Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey or Olivier Giroud is enough to get the fans singing their names and giving them instant support even if they have been on a bad run of form.

For some reason the same does not appear to be true for the manager, who is still being criticised despite the per4formance and result against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday being just what was needed and asked for by the fans. The boss got it right with his team selection, most notably the decision to start with Danny Welbeck when a lot of us were crying out for Giroud or Alexis Sanchez to start.

He kept faith with Mustafi, Monreal, Xhaka and Ozil and all of them proved the decision to be a good one. The tactics were right as we did not become reckless at any stage so kept a valuable and confidence building clean sheet while still having more than enough attacking threat top win the game comfortably.

I also think he got it right with the subs, so can we give credit where it is due and throw some props in the direction of the boss, rather than saying it was only Bournemouth?

  1. i bet u he wud screw it against chlsea…we have seen it b4… Win against chelsea in cups and lose in the epl drastically…and i mean drastically like a 4 or 5 zero scoreline…

  2. its how we perform home and away against, chelski, citeh, man u, lfc, spudnum and the toffeemen
(as well as our competition in europe) that will determine whether wengers tactics are right or not. most of us already know there’s a disappointment or two that awaits us around the corner and it’s not an expression of any sense of pessimism, its more “foresight of consequence” of having failed to replenish the team.

  3. Was only Bournemouth.. who haven’t won a game this season. Xhaka and Ramsey were still sloppy in possession.. and against Chelsea on Sunday, such sloppyness will be punished. Lets see if WEnger can outsmart Conte

    1. Xhaka leads the league in completed passes. He’s looking like he’s in synch with the EPL now, an excellent midfielder!
Ramsey is 60th btw. Though he is more attacking within the tactical approach.

  4. At least some fans are happy about the win, and are feeling upbeat. Where’s Konstantin? I swear, he was probably rooting for Bournemouth on Saturday, and is now in a state of shock. The cockroach only comes out when we lose or draw. Never ever have I seen him here after a good win. Look, truth of a matter is that we beat an extremely poor side, and I completely understand some people’s reservations. But why not take it as a sign of improvement? Wenger got the starting XI spot on, and the guys delivered. We’ve won 3 games out of the last 4 against Chelsea, so I say we can do it again. Wenger might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you can support the club, not necessarily the manager.

    1. I support the club but the delusion fans who still support Wenger despite the lies and cok ups are laughable at best

      1. We can debate all of that during the week but on march day let’s give it all our support. As a fan we have to Regardless. Been doing it for 46 years even before the Wenger era.

  5. We will look like a great team if we play Bournemouth every week. Problem is it’s Chelsea we are playing and we have no engine in the engine room, those two will get run over again just as they were at Anfield leaving the back door wide open

  6. Cmon it was only bournemouth…Elneny must start against chelsea if we want to get anything from that game….a midfield of Ramsey and Xhaka will loose 100%

      1. if only he could convince us (again) that he is returning to something of the form shown 3 seasons ago ramsey could be like a ‘new signing’ – despite being prone to some horrific performances he was clapped as he left the pitch. i’ll say it repeatedly he’s at his best when brought on from the subs bench, If he’s allowed a start at chelsea it would be nothing short of careless as too often he neglects his midfield duty.

  7. It was great to win against Bournemouth and more than that we did not at anytime look in danger and that is good. You really cannot ask for any more than that.
However I don’t think you can look at Bournemouth as a barometer of how we are going as they are going through a really dreadful patch themselves. The tactics we used against Bournemouth were exactly the same as the other games with no defensive cover and huge gaps and Bournemouth were too poor to take advantage unlike our previous 3 opponents.
If The Old Man looked at Bournemouth and thought “they are too poor to take advantage so we can camp in their half” then that is fair enough. We will see what tactics he has the team carrying out against Chelsea and the other teams and then we can assess on whether he has learned from his prior mistakes.
For me although I really want us to win against Chelsea the true assessment is whether we compete and whether or not we close those massive gaps that we see in midfield with both Xhaka and Ramsey charging forward that matters most. Do we have a good amount of shots on target and do we stop them flooding forward and having lots of shots themselves. That is a true measure of how we are doing.

  8. Learn how to park the bus on away games might be a start.1 point is better than 0 point.Gung Ho football in somebody else’s back yard is suicidal hence our poor record against the top sides AND the not so top sides.

  9. the guy who says we have won 3 out of 4 games against Chelsea probably didn’t watch the 3 0 scoreline against them in pre season.
Also forgetting to mention the fact that chelsea had red cards in two of the three games we beat them

  10. You can only beat the team that is put in front of you and 3 points is nothing other than positive. Your points of view loses any meaning when they are Constantly negative and never balanced.

Yep Chelsea got red cards in the last few games, can’t help that a win is a win, check the record books and its there in black and white

Try to remain objective as near constant negative posts are boring. Yes we should be beating teams like Bournemouth and Chelsea aren’t champions for no reason, Sunday will be a tough one to take points from (but we have done it before)

  11. It becomes a bit pathetic if we need to give Wenger credit for an individual game. Will you come on here after our next loss or dropped points and call him out on it? Or will you make acuses for him?

I am not sure Sam P if it is a good way to spend your timer trying to promote Wenger after a win. Most of us don’t judge Wenger based on one game or one season or one transfer window. And we certainly don’t expect him to lose every single game.

    1. It’s not Wenger’s fault Laurent was suspended for the first 2 games of the EPL season. Further, Mustafi was finally available. The Gunners finally lined up with the preferred back 3. They got a clean sheet at that. Holding wasn’t there coughing and choking the ball up every few minutes in the defensive half. Not to mention World Classinac started this weekend, what a beast, a true Ox imho. Now why didn’t Wenger start him against Liverpudlians? I’ll never know, but hopefully the Prof keeps him the starting IX, he’s well worth his place.

  12. we beat bournmouth not chelsea. yes it was good performance but there is still something missing.
wenger is still playing players out of position. ozil is not RWF and monreal is not LCB.
the partnership of xhaka and ramsey is still not convincing, and against chelsea it will be a suicide
finally wenger need to rethink about playing with three defenders. its used to give us a steal defence but we conceded 8 goals
i think wenger time is up he should pass the flag into a younger manager with fresh ideas

  13. Credit where it’s due coz it was the mighty Barcel…. ooh sorry they both start with B. the mighty Bournemouth. We will judge this team against Chelsea

  14. Oh wow, i admired you honestly. Frankly, the manager had been given a lot of credit, support and chances in recent years but still his doing the same old mistake stubbornly. It was his mistake at the Liverpool game recently, he created his own problem by switching around in a big game like that, at times it feel like he arrogantly underestimating Liverpool and I think his team selection would have surprise not only Klopp but almost everyone and until now it still puzzle me for a men that have 22 years of experience. He did not only bench Mustafi, instead almost sold him to Milan. I never question the player, it seems that they are still eager to get the result, but when you have a manager that losing the plot, the player will have a doubt of his ability. He never prepare his team properly almost every season and rush until the last minute of transfer.
It is fair for him, the board and owner to get the stick for every poor result, they get million from this club every season, while we spend for this club in support. We never ask money for return, just result and satisfaction. I can accept losing (like in the stoke game), but not with out a fight and worst we lose in the ugly way worst then amateur….have a nice day 🙂

  15. If a team wins coach get thumb up
If a team looses coach get thumb down
A win against Chelsea is 3point likewise a win over a relegation team is 3pts. If we had lost that game many won’t say wat there saying now. Am tired of negativity of arsenal fans.
