Crystal Palace is a big potential banana skin for Arsenal

Tomorrow evening Arsenal take on a Crystal Palace side that looked nailed on for relegation a couple of months ago, but since Roy Hodgson took over they have gone on an amazing 8 game unbeaten run and have moved up to just one point of getting out of the relegation zone and the team has an abundance of confidence at the moment.

Confidence is one thing that Arsenal have been short of on the road and they have only managed one last-minute win over Burnley in their last 5 away matches and the pressure is now on the Gunners to try and stay in touch with the five teams above us. Nothing less that the three points will do tomorrow or we will have another dent in our confidence.

Hodgson has admitted that he has been impressed with Arsenal’s recent form, but is looking forward to seeing his team fight hard to get more points on the board. Hodgson said: “I watched the game on Friday night [against Liverpool] and I thought they were extremely good, as were Liverpool,

“I watched their game against Manchester United which they lost but I thought they played exceptionally well, their attacking play was stupendous.

“We know that’s what we’ve got coming; that’s what we’ve got to try to find a way of trying to deal with and the only advantage we have is the fact that it is at home where our fans do give us enormous support and also they’re sensible fans they realise that we have got a big job on our hands, they will be expecting us to give our all against Arsenal.

“But they won’t necessarily be expecting that we are going to go out there and take Arsenal apart because they know what wealth and riches they possess compared to us; a much more modest Premier League team.”

The thing is that nobody expects Palace to win so they can be much more relaxed during the game, but with Wilfried Zaha back to his best they are a real potential banana skin to Arsenal. Now we will find out if the players are up for the fight or not…

  1. I put money on a Palace 2-0 win, pretty confident I’ll win tbh.

Zaha will shred our defence and we all know Arsenal can’t score on the road.

  2. 2-0 loss for us will be a decent result and nothing to be ashamed of as we are aiming for a top 6 finish anyway.

More than 2-0 won’t be unexpected either as we have 0 defenders on the pitch.

  3. If Arsenal cannot win against the likes of Crystal Palace and West Brom away from home, Wenger had better do something else, rather than managing a big and rich club like Arsenal. According to Forbes, Arsenal is the 6th most valuable football club in the world, with 572 millions revenue acquired in 2017:

Even after paying Wenger (the longest serving manager ever in Premier League) 8 millions in this year, they still have hundreds of millions left as the profit. It would be better if we all can see another big investment made in the January transfer window, with all those money.

  4. The article is somewhat old, referring to Palace being just one point away from getting out of bottom three. This article was written some time ago clearly, since Palace have been clear of bottom three for two weeks now. You may say so what, but I say that facts matter if you are writing an article supposedly for wide debate. If you hold back ” publicising” your article MR Admin , you risk a different set of circumstances being current. My comments of course presume that the writer did know his facts, at the time this article was written, when Palace were indeed one point from safety.

    1. I think a bookie would offer around 4/1 on us having a shot on target in first half. But on your wider and real point the lack of our accurate shots is appallingly low. Oh, we have shots but very few, other than by Lacazette are on target. In particular, IWOBI would need a goal a mile wide to hit the target. You would think that for 8.6 million a year a proper manage would work on shooting skills . But then again, a proper manager would understand the need and importance of defence and even coach it. How old is GEORGE GRAHAM NOW?

  5. Nothing is guaranteed in life, apart from death and Arsenal under Wegner is dead,so win, loose or draw it makes no difference,I personally don’t believe this man has what it takes to improve the team, and to all those who support him ,can you give me any reason (not old news) to believe that he is the man to take this club forward, because for us to be mentioning crystal palace ,west brom, stoke shitty, watford,Southampton and the list goes on,as banana skins for Arsenal,so no disrespect meant to the clubs listed, but historically, those clubs are normally fighting relegation and for any of these clubs to qualify for Europa league is like Arsenal winning the champions league (it just does not happen)so are we going forward or are they improving.

    1. Great post but “ALL those who support him”? What makes you think there are an “all”? Yes Kroenke , obviously, but he is only ONE.

    1. Surely as an adult(presumably) you mean Roy , not Woy. Of course if you are a nine year old schoolkid then I understand why you wrote as you did; kids of that age not being mature and not knowing better than to make fun of an unimportant speech impediment.

      1. Dear Mr Fox,

Thank you for following all of my posts. Enclosed is a signed photo as a gesture of my appreciation.

        Kind Regards,

        1. Ever thought of trying to grow up and behave like a decent aduilt human should Robin? I clearly hit a nerve with my accurate and necessary post on yoiu making childish remarks about a slight and unimportant(to adults) speech impediment. BUT INSTEAD OF HAVING ANY HUMILITY AND THINKING ABOUT WHAT YOU DID, SO NASTILY, YOU COME BACK WITH CHEAP AND LOW CLASS SARCASM. THIS IS BECAUSE YOU WELL KNOW THERE IS NO DEFENCE TO YOUR CHILDISH NASTINESS AND AS YOUNG KIDS USUALLY DO, THEY TURN ON THE ADULT WHO KNOWS BETTER. This will be my final post to you as Christmas now being over, and the kids gone home, I can spend my time with the many mature and decent adults out there now.

          1. I haven’t received my customary thumbs down from you in the article above this one. Concerned for your welfare.

  6. will it be difficult … yes … should it be difficult for 6th richest club on the planet … no … but 6 points from last 15 demonstrates that we have become a mid table team with european aspirations, the inevitable outcome of a failed and deluded manager living on past glories and a tight wallet… just want the man gone .. he is an embarrassment to the club and an albatross round its neck… will watch and hope that ozil sanchez lacazette and wilshere can bring something that makes it worthwhile spending a couple of hours in their company on a thursday night but wenger has drained real enthusiasm for the game and club
