Arsenal appear to be edging ever closer to one of the biggest signings of the summer after respected journalist David Ornstein reported that a deal for Bruno Guimarães is now on course for completion.
According to Ornstein, Arsenal are nearing total agreement with Newcastle United for the Brazil international, with all parties keen to bring negotiations to a conclusion. The report adds that the 28-year-old is now awaiting permission from Newcastle to undergo his medical before completing the move to North London.

The latest update represents perhaps the strongest indication yet that Guimarães is closing in on becoming an Arsenal player.
Arsenal have remained confident throughout negotiations
Reports over recent days suggested the deal was progressing well, with a fee in the region of £70 million, potentially rising to around £80 million through add-ons, understood to be under discussion after an initial bid is believed to have been rejected.
Now, with Ornstein reporting that an agreement is close and a medical is the next significant step, Arsenal supporters will understandably feel that the finish line is finally coming into view.

Guimarães has long been admired for his blend of technical quality, leadership and relentless work rate.
Since arriving at Newcastle from Lyon in 2022, he has established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders, helping transform Eddie Howe’s side while becoming captain at St James’ Park.
For Arsenal, adding a player of Guimarães’ calibre would provide Arteta with another elite option in midfield alongside Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi, significantly strengthening a squad already looking capable of challenging on multiple fronts this season.
His Premier League experience also means he should require little adaptation, making him someone who could make an immediate impact from the opening weeks of the campaign.
Medical now appears to be the next hurdle
While Arsenal supporters will understandably remain cautious until official confirmation arrives, this latest update from Ornstein suggests the transfer is now entering its final stages.
If Newcastle grant permission for Guimarães to undergo his medical, there may be very little left to resolve before Arsenal can officially unveil one of the club’s marquee signings of the summer.
With Arsenal due to face Real Betis in Dublin on Tuesday evening, attention will now turn to whether an announcement follows shortly afterwards.

Great news. We’ve been tracking Guimaraes way back since he was in Brazil. We lost out on him to Newcastle a few years ago when we haggled with Lyon way too much, and now we end up with both Declan Rice and the much more experienced version of Guimaraes.
He’ll add creativity and threat in the left 8 position, allow rest for Declan and Zubimendi, and give us the opportunity to play both Bruno and Declan in midfield at the same time. Make no mistake, that’s a frightening prospect for our opponents!
Class player – very good defensively and in attack. Makes our first team better but also allows us to rest rice and generally gives more flexibility in midfield, because he’s so well rounded. Age is the only drawback, but hope to see this finalised soon
It’s looking like Berta will succeed where Edu failed, Leon, by bringing Guimarães in!

I don’t know why you’re so worried about Bruno not representing sell-on value. When have we ever recouped the money we’ve shelled out on players or even made a profit? I can’t think of any (but stand to be corrected). I think there’s only a handful of players in the squad right now that would fetch a decent amount, but you know we never sell at the right time either, which has been on-going for years
Sue, the only one I can think of, off the top of my head, where we made a profit on would be Oxlade-Chamberlain.

I’m alive and kicking (feebly it must be said) but just bored to the back teeth with FIFA, the World Cup debacle, millions of rumours about our imminent signings, whether racism exists in football (of course it does!!) and the pathetic effort to drag Arsene Wenger into the Infantino scandal.
Been negotiating with the club regarding finding me a new seat, as the one I’ve had since the Emirates opened it’s doors is now part of the standing area – needless to say, the club have found me a new one. They really do try to do the right thing in my opinion.
Looking forward to the season and giving my personal opinion along with fellow Gooners on this great JustArsenal forum 👍
I might even write an article ior two, just to give Dan a break 😂😂
Welcome back Ken!
Berta has had 1.5 summer windows. Edu had 5 (or 4.5 to be fair, since he wasn’t personally responsible for Nicolas Pepe). Both directors have/had different directives too.
Last summer was a good window. He filled in many of the spaces, helping us win the league.
So a bit hard to fairly compare apples to apples yet. We’ll be able to better judge in a few years.
I’m honestly not so excited about this like so many others considering the financial involvement. Also, considering the way the referees deal with Arsenal players, if Bruno keeps playing rough the way he does, we would record a lot of cards when he arrives next season.
Like Declan and Victor, he’s a player who has made it clear he WANTS to play for us.
Alvarez WANTS to play for Barcelona, and may use Arsenal as a stepping stone to get there and Vinicius Junior WANTS to stay with Real Madrid.
Tzolis seems genuinely thrilled to have signed for us.
Give me honest committed players who will ‘Play For The Badge’ in every game ahead of ‘Jumped Up Prima Dona’s who only seem to be interested in the ‘next big payday’
8 players who can play as midfielders: Skelly Merino Zubimendi Odegaard Eze Havertz Rice and now Guimaraes. The inexperienced Skelly must now decide for a loan out though not for a direct rival. Give him to promoted teams where he could enjoy game time. The rested and reinvigorated Zubimendi is better than him.
