Do Arsenal fans agree with Thierry Henry (and me) on Alexis Sanchez?

I would love to think that Thierry Henry had read what I had to say on the matter the other day, but somehow I doubt it even though it was published on one of the big sports websites. But the former Arsenal and France international striker has been talking about the same issue, as reported by ESPN, and that is whether our current striker Alexis Sanchez has what it takes to emulate the impact that our club record goal scorer had for the Gunners.

The Just Arsenal take on this can be seen in full by following this link to the Daily Mail. And my own take on the matter, that Arsenal have finally found a player worthy of assuming the mantle of Thierry Henry has been repeated by the man himself. He was at the Emirates the other day with another former Gunner Robert Pires to see our Chilean superstar put on his latest masterclass against Stoke City.

Henry said, “Arsenal were looking for a player to deliver on a daily basis and they have found one. He is brilliant. He can read the game incredibly, as you saw with the goal on Sunday, and his work-rate is fantastic.

“He scores goals and doesn’t need a lot of opportunities to put the ball in the net. That is very important. He is a very, very good player and you know that if he is on tune, then Arsenal have a lot of chances to win the game.

“I am trying to think if there has been a better signing in the last five or six years. It is still early days but so far it is very good. He is doing extremely well. He is going to score goals but it is his all-round game that I am so impressed with. That has no price.

“Arsenal fans have been waiting to have a player like that. Finally they have one. He struggled at the beginning, like everybody, but when he got into a rhythm, you can see the quality. We should all be happy with him. He is going to be a great player for many years.”

The Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini has also claimed that our 26-year old forward is now the best player in the Premier League, something his own strike star Sergio Aguero might have something to say about, but it just highlights what a great debut season Alexis is having.

So Arsenal fans, do you agree with me, Henry and Pellegrini about Sanchez? And what do you think it is about the Chilean that makes him so special? Are there any Arsenal fans who are not quite as convinced? Is there a chance that his form will drop, which has happened to players coming to England before? Or have we got years of the awesome Alexis in front of us?

    1. The King is always right. As a Knight of Arsenal_FC (I don’t mean to brag), the King and I have really been friends and I can tell you he’s indeed worth dying for.

      Long live the King!!! COYG!!!

      ***now I’m in tears***

      Long live the King!!!

  1. Hopefully, he will not drop in form. He is just too strong. Awesome player.
Arsene should encourage him and us fans and buy more very good players to complete the team puzzle.

    1. Sanchez is a damn passionate guy. Most times you see him beckoning his team-mates to come forward and attack and press the opposition, unlike the two “snaily” or “snailous” (both adjectives in the KickAss Dictionary, Vol. 2) captains that just pull us back like Kim Kadashians’s butt.

    2. Arsene….encourage him?!!!!
      won’t happen, can’t happen. Ask V. Persie,
Cesc, Arshavin n even Henry himself!
When Wenger gets a good player..
      1. He stops shopping for other good players n
continually depends on that one. All good
players want good players around them, ask
      Cesc my good old pal
      2. He stops using tactics n places all his
hopes on that one player to outplay n
      outscore.
      3. He doesn’t give them very very good
salaries to stop other clubs from enticing them
away, ask my other buddies Nasri n Hleb.
      4. Worst above all, he doesn’t win silverware!!
He just doesn’t do it how many top teams
have we had yet went trophyless for very
      long??

  2. Muchas gracias Alexis for choosing Arsenal otherwise he would have been playing for Liverpool, who offered above the asking price!

  3. He was for while in the shadow of the best player in the world Messi now its must be like his been freed from his ball and chain and enjoying his football,

i’m sure Sanchez become a better and more determined player siting on the bench at FC Barcelona week and week out training and watching the great Messi and thinking i could do that, and yes he is DO-INIT for us YEA

  4. Obvious he is a very good player but i dont trust with good players anymore. Look at what he did to Arshavin, Podolski etc. The best thing for me is to say he is not good so that can jeep playing him. Otherwise he is a fantastic player. But Wenger with good players???? Lets wait and see.

  5. Sanchez is absolutely amazing, there has not been a signing in recent Arsenal times that has excited like the Sanchez signing.

He is still not a finished article yet and he will only improve game by game. What a player…

  6. That was how Cazola started before we got Ozil and he pushed Cazola wide for Ozil making the short Spaniard look like an average player. He did the same to Ashavin and many like that.

  7. the thing that I think I like the most about sanchez is actually the effect he has on the rest of the team. Chamberlain, giroud and cazorla are players in particular who have upped their work rate, whilst rosicky welbeck also press well which I think is a key factor in winning most games but especially the big ones. Its also nice to have giroud not have as much pressure to be the main goal scoring threat which will hopefully improve his confidence and there are signs already.

  8. Q: Can Sanchez emulate Thierry Henry?
Twig: I don’t see why not, if his first season is anything to go by!

Q: Is Sanchez the best player in the EPL at the moment?
Twig: He’s very close. Diego Costa and Aguero have been in and out of their teams due to injury and have scored more goals. Hazard has been phenomenal and Cesc has the number assists some number 10s have in 3 seasons. I would say Aguero is the best player IMHO, considering the amount of games he’s played. Pellegrini might be playing mind games, which is allowed.

    1. statistically I agree, although I would expect alexis would be doing better if he was playing in front of chelsea’s defence

  9. Arsene….encourage him?!!!! 🙁 🙁

    1. I regret not knowing you before now, never knew Pythagoras theory was something I already know.

Like seriously, it’s not good to have just one very good player in the team, just one stand-out performer, it could bring out the smelly part of him (pride and pomposity).

  10. “So Arsenal fans, do you agree with Me, Henry and Pellegrini about Sanchez?”, I like how you put your opinion alongside that of Henry and Pellegrini… Surely everyone feels the same about Alexis!

If I see anyone saying negative things about Alexis, I will be convinced that it is a spurs troll!

  11. What I want most is that Alexis passion & work rate rubs off on our other players and inspires them to play harder. I already see it in Ox. He seems to have more fight in him this season. Goes after players more when he loses the ball just like Sanchez. He is World Class no doubt and I’d wager he’s Arsene’s best signing over the past 10 years easily.

    1. @NickTheYank

Don’t forget Laurent Koscielny. We nipped him for about £20M less than what we paid for Sanchez. Now look what he’s become!

  12. Alexis, Ozil and Koscielny are our only WC players

Alexis has been a rainbow on a miserable year.

  13. Im half hearted about this. Although i think he is a world class player. and he very much could be capable of reaching the heights of the great henry. I feel we have taken a few steps back since signing him. Last season (after we sold that jewdus scum) arsenal played some of the best football i’ve ever seen them play. Now we have that so called striker back our whole team solidity and work ethic is gone. We’ve lost our smooth passing game. Our play just involves getting the ball to sanchez and seeing if he can do something special. You can’t not like sanchez he brings so much to team and with out him we’d be alot further down the table but i don’t think the way we are playing is good for the team.
In attack we’re missing one key player, someone like lacazette who’s quick, can work the channels and is magnificent with the ball at his feet and finishing. In defence and holding midfield we’re missing a few pieces to the puzzle.
I very certain sanchez could be one of the best we’ve had but with out the correct help (on the field) he will never reach that level.
