Do Arsenal fans now believe we can beat Man City to the title?

Proud time to be a Gunner after seeing Man City’s perception towards Arsenal by Gun Down

It was really interesting reading the Man City fans reactions after failing to beat Brentford at their soil. Weeks ago many fan’s on this platform was showing concerns about mighty City.

Most people’s worry was that City looks unbeatable and no one can challenge them over the cause of 38 league games, seeing how Liverpool has been struggling and Haaland was breaking all records. While City was taking all teams to the cleaners. Most fans and pundits perception were that ‘Arsenal is having a good start to the season and well positioned to be in the top 4’ conversation. The idea that Arsenal is fighting to win the league was absurd to many people to even be thought of. The press and pundits were selling us Man City as title elect, but today after 14 games we are 5 points clear, and i have been enjoying the ride so far

Meanwhile, this is how Man City fans reacted to falling behind in Premier League title race to Arsenal after we moved five points clear them at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday.

Here is how some of them reacted on the Blue Moon forum going five points behind in the title race.

Alex city: “Things don’t tend to repeat in football. Arsenal won’t be Leicester, even though they are better than Leicester and will win more points than Leicester. Arteta is not Pep. But it’s telling a lot about Pep’s philosophy that the current top teams in the two best leagues in the world are managed by Pep’s disciples. The Michels-Cruyff-Guardiola line in football is the best in history. But Pep spends a lot, doesn’t make changes and is hard to understand, so his success doesn’t count

Arsenal will have difficult moments. Think they will drop 10 points over 7-8 games at some point of the season (that’s 2 losses and 2 draws). The question is whether we’ll be good enough to capitalise on their mistakes. Given our form under Pep since 2017, we are likely to go above 86 pts. Arsenal have a very good young team, but injuries and inexperience will stop them from going above 85 pts, imo, even if they are on course to 100 pts now. Things may go south quickly. As good as they are, they are not Liverpool good. Our games with them will be interesting. Maybe we’ll be on form by then.”

SuperCity88: “Going to need a huge change in performances to win it. We have been poor so far. 5pts off top and it being Arsenal not Liverpool means we are still in it, but we need a big run of wins when we are back and to start playing with more balance.”

MCFC Israel: “We can and should beat Arsenal, at home and away so a 5-point gap is something that can definitely be reversed, there are still 24 games ahead of us. I don’t think Arsenal will win the title, but if they do? they well deserve it.”

Gundogan: “24 games to go. Was always going to be a weird one with the diabolical timing of the World Cup in Qatar. I would back us 100% to kick on in the new year injuries permitting.”

AshtonBluemooner: “We’ve played 14 games. No league has ever been won in November. Yesterday’s result is a sickener because of the performance and the fact we have to wait more than 6 weeks to get it out of our system. Do you think the players will care? Of course, they will. They’ll come back from the World Cup and want to put things right. Pep will want to put things right. This might be the tightest Premier league in a long time. Arsenal haven’t slipped up yet, they will and then it’s how they respond. Plus, they play us twice. Loads of points still to be won and lost.

What can we Arsenal fans make of their reactions

  1. None of them considered us strengthening our team at the next transfer window
We will definitely bring in the quality we need to strengthen the positions we short on
Arsenal don’t buy players for the sake of it….I expect 3 marquee players to come in and I can bet Edu isn’t sitting on his laurels
Head on head with our first 11 I know we can take City on

    1. Jakes, sadly and being a realist, I have to say your hope exceeds your wisdom.
It is almost impossible to attract, let alone afford, ANY real top class play inJanuary, let alone “three”.

I do expect one decent but not world class player to come and perhaps one next level down backup player for squad depth.
But that by itself, given the comparitive shallowness in DEPTH,of true top quality outside our first fourteen players, will not be anywhere near enough to ward off City. And your line about our first eleven versus their first eleven is not the reality of whatACTUALLY HAPPENS when injuries kick in . As they CERTAINLY will!

My heart prays you are right but my head says you are definitely wrong.

      1. Hi Jon
I’m taking for granted our first 14 will be injury free in a head on head with City
As for the rest of the season top 4 is our goal..top 3 for me..!
You right about teams freeing their best players midseason..

        1. Jakes how and why do you take such an unknowable thing as all our first 14 being fit ” for granted”? That is not what sensible fans ever do.

We ACCEPT THAT THINGS ARE VERY UINLIKELY TO EVER GO AS PLANNED.

We base that on long experience of knowing how the game works and how injuries so often occur.

      2. At this stage only strengthening is not the answer. In big stage it’s the matter of mentality. Last season we blown away 5 point lead to mediocre spurs for 4th place, so we can imagine what will it require to overcome that hurdle and get it done against far superior mancity. Every team in EPL are spending big and getting quality players but to integrate them efficiently in team and get them going in another thing. We have to overcome the greatest challenge against us and that is not mancity or weak players but is our own inner demons which make us weak at crucial period and lose the battle ground all these years.

      3. Ronaldo is available is a proven winner, he will get us over the line for sure. Will Arsenal be brave enough to go for him

  2. Unless we recruit in January, we won’t win the league! Get a good cover for Partey and get a striker. Nketiah ain’t working. We have a good first team, our second team is very average

  3. Last year City had 32 points after 14 games. Exactly the same as now.
They won the league with 93 points. Nothing to say, they won’t reach that again.
Will we be able to get more? Doubtful, I think, but you never know.
Could City end up with less so less is needed from us? Possibly, you never know.
Such a long way to go.

    1. City has the depth and they have the ezpericenes to deal with. We have great 1st team but we lose out on rotating olayers should rest needed n injuries happen. Epl is to me the togheat league in thw world now with tge abundant of talents n world class players here.

  4. The head to head against top teams this season will be the determinant of whether we will win or not. The victories against Liverpool and Chelsea were crucial as was the loss to Man Utd. What Arsenal should do is get a DM and then if possible recall some of the loan players to protect the first team. If we buy just for the sake of we will regret this season and in the future but a DM is a must.

    1. Our results against mancity is absolutely crucial. But let’s not forget Newcastle. They haven’t lost to any big six yet and are title challengers other than city. They run city ragged but were unfortunate to draw the game. They have same upward tragectory like Arsenal. So, like everyone at Arsenal speaking that each game is like final for them but these 2 6 pointer game are absolutely crucial.

  5. While it’s still early days and as such it’s better keeping a safe spot of thought rather than getting over excited, alot of happenings around arsenal football club at the moment jst gives one that inner feeling of belief dat league glory might jst come quicker than anyone ever imagined.

I started trusting the process soon after our Victory against Spurs at the Emirates last season. The standard of play made me see prospect in the team n i remember telling whoever cared that this arsenal bunch would be contenders in three or four yrs time. For some reasons am starting to feel like glory myt com alot earlier.

Arsenal has served defeat to three of the four teams dat City has dropped points against so far. The other bin Newcastle that we are yet to face. We are going to drop points of our own along the way buh the rare thought that city can also drop points against teams from all ends of the table is enough to belief we myt jst do a fast one on them n get the tittle

  6. It’s possible we could win the league but I think City will and we are destined for top 4, but even top 4 is not a given. Yes Liverpool, Chelsea and Man U have underperformed, but spurs and Newcastle are serious contenders and we have go to their grounds which will be difficult games, especially Newcastle. There is still a very long way to go but as the saying goes, one game at a time.

  7. I find it interested that most arsenal football fans INCLUDING arsenal fans refuse to acknowledge us as title contenders. Now I’m not saying we will win the league here. But we should most definatley be in the conversation at minimum.

Based on current form city look to not be at their best without haaland. They had a good 2 or 3 games when he was injured where de bryne really had to pull something out the bag. Knowing haaaland is injury prone I thibk we have a reasonable chance at this if things carry on how they were before this breaks

    1. Haaland played against Brentford and they looked awful too. Infact the two games they have lost and drawn he played full time in those games

  8. Okay. The Gooners have repeatedly been saying that Arsenal should as a matter of compelling necessity sign a new top quality holding midfielder and a top League regular goals scorer in the next Jan transfer window. So as to enhanced Arsena chances to lift the Epl title this season.
And honestly speaking, I’ve boughten into those expressed thoughts and opinions by my fellow Gooners in comradeship.
But looking at the current Arsenal first team squad. Only one space is left unfilled last summer window after the abortive attempt to sign Douglas Luiz made it so.
So therefore, if Arsenal are to reinforced next January. They can sign up to 2 new players but if they loaned out or sell a gunner. Albert Sambi Lokonga? Well, I wouldn’t know.
Let us not mind the press and the football pundits who have said Arsenal won’t be able t sustain their current top form which is seeing them at the f League to win the Epl title thus season.
But hoe did they know that Arsenal won’t be able to win it? Are they a kind if some football gods?
As for me, irrespective of whatever any anti-arsenal press and pundits may say to condemn Arsenal will not hinder nor stop th Gunners o not win the title this season. For, as long as the Gunners keep doing what they have done before the break for the World Cup that saw them top League. And continuing with their that. The Epl title win this season will be theirs this season God’s willing.amen!

  10. Lots of talk of buying in January for various reasons (squad depth, cover for particular positions) BUT…

Does anyone know what the FFP situation is?

After the summer window it was reported that we were being “monitored” (I think was the word they used). We’re still in the same financial year in January, so it seems likely that the amount that’ll be available for transfers will be constrained by the FFP situation, not by KSE’s willingness to spend.

The other constraint is the usual one – there’s not usually much available to buy.

If we don’t buy the players people want, I expect there will be a lot of moaning and wailing, but I think people should bear the above in mind, it’s not really as simple as “buy more players, win league”.

  11. Keeping to FFP £50 million will be given to Arteta
The new UEFA financial sustainability rules came into force in June 2022. They are based on three pillars: solvency, stability and cost control. As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the new rules allow clubs to incur losses of €60m over three years, compared to the previous allowance of €30m.
Also consider the sales of Torrera and Nicolas Pepe and Guendouzi

  12. I’ll be happy if we can take it to the wire. If we are still in with a shot come to the last six games or thereabouts, then I’m content even if the much-favored city goes on to win it. What I have seen so far from Arteta and his style of football has brought positivity into my life. I can see nothing not positive about Arsenal’s first team once more, going forward you would have to say that we are lucky to have such a coach as Arteta and such a transfer guru as Edu. Can we bring it to the wire, I don’t know, and that’s not a bad thing either after years of failed aspirations.

  13. Arsenal has the highest chances of win the EPL than the rest of the teams, one thing they need to do is keep up the spirit, there’s no any other Partey like player on the market, E. Mo is another player that can perform and glue that position, city have been at there best as well but still been better than them, no doubts our fst team can beat city hands down, the only danger is Newcastle coz their game is tricky, but we can beat city home and away, and even if we don’t need to buy, buying might actually disorganize our team, and city have two people with the highest contributions our team is uniform, if those guys loose kdb en Haaland to injury their numbers will be down

  14. Lots of pundits don’t like what they are seeing, guys believe our team is at its peak, even when we lost both partey en E. Mo they tried this season, last season in the last stages we lost Tierney en Tomiyasu, we have solved it successfully, en perhaps most of the teams that lift don’t buy in January, that’s weakening ur scored, guys leave these talks for pundits to them, those guys don’t wish en good for us
