Poll: Do Arsenal fans think that Chelsea are now certain Champions?

With Arsenal’s defeat to Everton in midweek, the Gunners, along with Liverpool, dropped to six points behind our West London neighbours. Man City are just one point behind and with our visit to the Etihad on Sunday we both have the possibility of falling even further behind the Blues.

By a quirk of the TV fixtures, Chelsea get to play first, and have a great chance to extend their winning run to 11 with an away game against struggling Crystal Palace. If Chelsea win as expected, they will open up a nine-point gap on us, making our game on Sunday even more important.

Our old captain, Cesc Fabregas, reckons this Christmas period will give his new side a chance to ‘send a message’ to their title rivals. Chelsea have been made to battle for the points lately though and only beat West Brom 1-0 in the last 15 minutes last weekend, and then had to fight against a battling Sunderland side for the same result in midweek. Fabregas, who scored the only goal in Sunderland, said after the game: ‘In the first half we were fantastic, we didn’t give them anything,’

‘They are a good team, playing at home and they want to win, so in the second half they put us under a little bit of pressure. The only downside was that we need to kill games when we have the chance, but the performance was really good. We will watch the videos tomorrow but we felt we were very strong.

‘We want to keep winning, we know in this period we can send a strong message and hopefully we can continue like this.

‘It’s very good we can compete like that, we should have been more clinical but credit to the defence, the whole team and Thibaut Courtois, who made some excellent saves, which shows we are together and strong.’

Chelsea are certainly looking unstoppable now, but is there still the chance that Arsenal, Liverpool or Man City can still catch them?

Their last three of this year are: Palace (A), Bournemouth (H) and Stoke (H). It is normally a fact that the team in front at the end of the year go on to claim the title, so do you think they going to be too far in front for anyone to have a hope of catching them in the second half of the season?

Do you think Chelsea are now certain to win the League?

  • Arsenal can still catch Chelsea (56%, 532 Votes)
  • Chelsea have won it (44%, 416 Votes)

    1. Flawless? I remember a certain day in September when they were well beaten 3-0 by a certain team in red and white..

Since then they’ve only lost one (West Ham) and drew none, but in that same period, we have also only lost one (Everton). The difference is, we’ve drawn a few where they’ve won. But a few dropped points by them and the race is right on.

Its not even January and the title race is tight this year. It is absurd to call a winner this early.

  1. When everyone was watching city blow teams away at the beginning, many looked at it, with Pep steering them, they jumped the gun trying to look smart by predicting the winner with only three/four games in. I remember saying, it’s too early to judge.

I did get in on the act when Liverpool came to the fore. Their forward play was blisteringly good, it reminded me of Liv in that season when Gerrard slipped. I was happy seeing them begin falter after a couple injuries.

Now people are going ..third times a charm.

Chelsea look very good. But unlike the great forward play that the other two got the nods for, it is Chelsea’s defence which has people scared, along with a strange formation and a real poacher up front.

I still think it’s too early to be positive on this, liv got a couple of injuries before they wobbled, so there is always that. Chelsea might be mentally tough, but if they don’t have a huge gap between themselves and the rest, there will be a time when pressure gets tough on them. If you have the favorites tag, but without that gap, I believe any of these teams team would feel it.
I’m just gonna see how the holiday period goes, concenrate on our next fixture, and then the next, then eventually we’ll see where we stand.

  2. Chelsea will lose points they will suffer injuries and will crumble under pressure for sure its a natural assurance phenomenon but the main question here can Arsenal capitalize om it We meet city in Manchester can we win it can we work hard together and win it ? We have no other choices but to win it so we might as well stick together and work together and win it for sure Can Arsenal have the 12th man on the field come Sunday well they better turn up load and clear Come on Arsenal

  3. Tough one. Think it’s over-reacting to say we’ve gone from having a pretty good chance to having absolutely no chance just because of a single game.

But I know we can’t guarantee points against City this week-end either.

At some point Chelsea will drop points too. The disappointment in previous seasons has been that we’ve often failed to capitalize on slip-ups by the leaders.

  4. Literally anything can happen. I would have thought that we would know this considering that the last winners of the league were Leicester. There are way too many factors at play and so much can happen in the remaining part of the season, injuries, luck, form etc so there is every chance that we can catch them. If Chelsea lose a game or two (very possible) it’s possible that their form might drop. Again, its still way too early to tell who will win.

  5. Chelsea are on a good run but all runs come to an end. The record for winning streaks is Arsenal’s at 14 games in 2001/02 but it came to an end. Chelsea go back to back to Tottenham, Leicester and Liverpool in January with home games in the FA Cup and Hull in the PL sandwiched in between.
Their next 3 games look easy on paper but no premier league game is easy if you don’t turn up. I remember City and Utd had 9 points from the first 3 games and the media waxed lyrical about Manchester and then Liverpool went on a free-scoring run with the same fanfare. We aren’t even at the halfway mark yet…

  6. We need to worry about ourselves
Chelsea have a very good defence and they do enough to win.
Our defence is good when we start with bellerin koscielny mustafi Montreal Cech Coquelin, but our backups are average

We are scoring enough. Our attack is very good. But we need to defend better

  7. Consider that we havent won the leuage for so long, there is not such a thing as us being fav. to win the leuage. We are also not fav to win against bayern. so let us take every game as it comes, and in may tllk again.

  8. We are definitely not favorites, but the negativity is really not a surprise.
Arsenal fans are known to be really bipolar and up and down all the time, only time will tell if we win it or not. I still think we have a chance if we sign Draxler, who can also play against Bayern Munchen. He will be a major boost and Ozil will sign a new contract, and hopefully Sanchez will soon follow. I still think Chelsea are favorites, but when Costa gets his yearly injury (hope he’s never able to play again …) Chelsea will suffer big time.

  9. Rough up ozil/walcott, press the rest and they will make mistakes. If you let arsenal play free flowing football they will kill you but if you rough them up a little and get in their heads they WILL make mistakes. I’m no expert and even I can see this, and i would instruct my players to follow that philosophy against any arsene wenger team. Man city won’t do this, they think they can play us tic for tac so i think we definitely have a chance against them but any of these lower half teams will set up to frustrate us and rough up the two pretty boys.

  10. Cheslea will drop points. Problem is with us. I have been saying since August , we have not been playing well. One or two matches where you grind results makes sense but we have been doing that for majority games. I worry for the performances.

As for city , we can beat them. Pep is doing lvg part 2, very stubborn and rigid. Cheslea actually have done well but they are blessed with less games to focus on. Anything can happen from now till end of the season.

  11. It is not rocket science for an arsenal fan to imagine that we are almost out of the title race. 12 years and counting and the movie is the same. Chelsea might falter at some point but where will arsenal be at that time?

  12. With respect to my Arsenal brothers and sisters, anyone who thinks Chelsea is CERTAIN to win the PL this season (which by the way is only two-fifths competed) is a Muppet.
