Does Liverpool’s failure boost Arsenal transfer plans?

Liverpool lost in last night’s Europa League final, mean they will go into the new season without European football of any sort, and that could play into the hands of Arsenal.

The Merseyside club lost to Seville 3-1 last night, after taking a 1-0 lead into the half-time break, and will be strongly disappointed to have ended the season with only an eighth place finish to boast of.

The Reds and Gunners have both been strongly linked with a number of the same targets in recent months, but the former may now struggle to rival Arsenal for players signatures.

Celtic’s Kieran Tierney, Bayern’s Mario Gotze and Leicester youngster Ben Chilwell have all been linked with both sides, and could be much easier to acquire for the North-London side following the latest development.

Arsene Wenger’s side have also been linked with a move to sign Daniel Sturridge in recent weeks, following the loss of Danny Welbeck for the next nine months to injury. The forward has proven to be one of the best players in England when fit, and is able to cover out wide and centrally for Arsenal, as Welbz did also.

Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wojciech Szczesny have been linked with switches in the opposite direction, and it is yet to be seen whether any of the trio would be willing to move to Anfield. I have not seen any mentions of a potential swap deal, but if their interest proves to be true, the trio are dispensable.

Do you think Sturridge would be persuaded to stay with Liverpool in case Klopp can turn their fortunes around? Can the manager’s presence on Merseyside mean they are not to be under-estimated in the transfer market?
